The Hollow (2015)
They should have all died
This was insufferable to watch. I could feel my blood pressure raising with every passing minute that i watched this movie. I know the horror genre wouldn't exist with characters that "followed the rules" but jesus christ was this infuriating to watch. None of the characters were likeable and the detailed visions that I had of them horribly dying in my head were more entertaining than the movie itself.
No hate to these actresses, i'm sure it was the way the writers wrote the characters (pls get a new job btw) but holy cow i could barely finish the movie. The whole point is they need to be quiet to survive but they were moaning, screaming, grunting, gasping, and whimpering with every move, hell even when there was nothing happening in the movie they were making all that noise. It was worse than an 80's homemade adult movie. That's literally how bad it was, it was like they were trying to compensate for the lackluster plot so they just make a whole lot of noise.
Not worth the watch at all, im glad it was fee to watch but i will never get that time back in my life.
Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)
Santa should've finished the job
Probably one of the most annoying movies i've seen this year. Besides the horrible dialogue that everyone has mentioned, the movie and the characters were just so annoying. It should've ended 30 minutes early. How many times do we have to see the horribly written female lead "kill" santa only for him to come back alive? We get it, he's a military weapon but i don't need to see it happen 20x to understand it.
The scenes were predictable and the characters were unlikeable, i was cheering santa on. Tori is probably one of the worst written female leads i've seen in the last 5 years. Talk about a pick me that makes the worst decisions possible. Instead of you know, making sure evil santa is dead or you know, running away, she just lights up a joint or tries to call the police after she witnesses the only police officers in town get slaughtered. I would've rather had evil santa survive than her. After failed attempt #5 i was hoping she would put herself and us (the audience) out of our misery.
From Black (2023)
watch this if you want to be irritated!
This movie had a great premise, definitely something a little different than the rest of the movies that try to copy pet sematary. It could have been great if it wasn't for a few major issues.
1. The audio is god awful. The dialogue is dialed all the way down, background music was louder than the characters speaking, even when it wasn't supposed to be suspenseful. I had to have the volume on 30 just to hear a faint whisper of the conversations happening.
2. I get what they were trying to do with the main character, but it really wasn't fitting for the plot. It was "i'll do anything to see my son" and then she wouldn't even do the simplest of tasks. It felt like an essay where you are trying to meet the minimum number of characters but you could only come up with a few paragraphs, so it kinda becomes incoherent when you add a bunch of fancy words so you can meet the minimum and not fail the assignment . I mean this woman was willing to shoot up black tar heroin but not drink a little goat blood in order to have her son back??? "were you grooming me?" girl. He told you from the very beginning that sacrifices must be made and you have to pay the price. Either the character has a learning disability or the script writer does.
Overall super disappointed with this movie. It had the potential to be great but it was pretty unbearable to watch.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Would've been an OKAY short film
Do you ever watch a movie and wonder, "how did this movie pass through so many people and not get denied before being published?" Well this is another movie to add to the list! To start, the first 20 minutes of the movie consisted of a back and forth if the main male character Everett, telling the main girl Fay, to ask people questions to test her new tape recorder, and Fay responding "no im too nervous!" I kid you not, that was the first 20 minutes of the movie. I get it, she's supposed to be a shy school girl but I gathered that after the first 2 minutes, they didn't need to try it on a dozen people.
And that is essentially how every dialogue scene goes in the movie, it always felt 10 minutes too long, and there are A LOT of dialogue scenes. Actually, 90% of this movie is useless dialogue scenes with similar lighting that you would find in 5 miles deep into a cave.
They could've told the whole story in 30 minutes tops. Even then, it would've been the most boring short film you ever watched.
The only good thing about it was the fun accents and the aesthetic.
Skinamarink (2022)
Experimental doesn't always mean it should be experimented
Do you love looking at still shots of the ceilings and floors? Well I have just the perfect movie for you! Skinamarink is just 140 minutes of ceilings and floors. There's maybe a paragraph worth of dialogue that goes something like this, "what do we do?" "i don't know" and the creature saying the boys name. Repeat that like 5 times and you can create the whole movie in your head!
If you told me this movie was made by a rich art school kid who dropped out because they got an F for turning this snooze fest in, I wouldn't even second guess it. I'm just so curious on how this movie was deemed suitable to be published for the public to watch, it seems more like something they would make you watch as a form of torture.
Kolskaya sverhglubokaya (2020)
Every character is brain dead and moves at the speed of a snail.
This movie started off really promising, fun plot line idea and a rare female lead! Well, that promise ended quickly because none of the characters acted like humans, let alone their "professions."
Why were they just beating up a survivor? Why was the epidemiologist taking off her PPE any chance she had? Why did they take the time to take off their hazmat suits to run away from a mold monster that would have infected them?why did she get into the area that is over 200f and proceeded to take as long as possible to get out of there and then took her pants off? And why did the nerdy guy shoot the other guys leg?
None of it made sense whatsoever. Every scene was in slow motion. This movie would've been better if the characters had any brain matter in their heads and if the movie was on 2x speed.
