Tom Segura: Sledgehammer (2023)
Brilliant stand-up comedy
I just discovered this brillant foul-mouthed stand up comedian.
This show convinced me to add the test of his shows on my must watch list.
He is al but afraid to avoid controversy.
His topics are, amongst others, sexuality (straight, gay, whatever), educating children, drugs use and abuse.
Sometimes he walks on a thin line of extreme funny and what for some people may occur offensive.
But for me humour can go further on topics than any other medium. If it's funny or not is a question of taste and opinion. But censorship should never be applied on this kind of shows.
As a European I sometimes don't understand the jokes because he yalks about famous Americans, unknown by me.
But mostly his humour is international and he made me cry several times with his witty observations.
I fully recommend to let him take you on a hilarious trip!!!
Baraki (2021)
This is Belgium!!!
A series about a marginal but in their own way loving family.
Every episode takesv a little bit more than20 minutes what makes it perfect as a in between snack.
I think it's much more funny too watch if you're from Belgium or are familiar with the stupidity of some of Belgium's habits and folklore.
It's not big cinema but it's very funny and in times emotional and moving.
But above all it's about having fun and sticking togetherv as a family.
There's a lot of drinking, growing ganja and partying in it.
Just sit back nand relax, don't think too much and laugh with us stupid Belgian culture!!!
Medieval (2022)
100% Middle Ages
I think it's a little pity that this movie is completely in English. But for the makers to do in the original languages, with old dialect and all would probably too much effort for what is basic an action movie.
For me this movie was pretty entertaining because of the use of extreme violence, the blood almost spatters onto the camera, limbs got chopped off, it's a real distasteful affair. And that's the way fighting was in that era.
No corteous swordfights, but pus, blood, moaning, perishing.
And no, I'm not a sadist that enjoys atrocities, but unlike this movie claims to be a true story, it's a Medieval fairytale with all ingredients in place: a dame in despair, tirrany, power-games, intrigues, treason, the Catholic Church(es), the one in Rome and the one in Avignon.
The movie is inspired by a historical figure, strongly romanticized of course. Jan Zizka z Trocnova a Kalicha (English: John Zizka of Trocnov and the Chalice; c. 1360 - 11 October 1424) was a Czech general - a contemporary and follower of Jan Hus and a Radical Hussite who led the Taborites. Zizka was a successful military leader and is now a Czech national hero.
Some Czech nationalism seeps through in the movie, but personally it doesn't bother me.
But all this aside, the movie has beautiful filmed battles, the ruthlessness is sometimes schocking and there's a scene with a lion that is brilliant.
The better spectacle entertainment!!!
Armageddon Time (2022)
The impossible friendship of two boys
This movie is about two boys that become friends at shool.
What binds them is that they're both a lil' rebellious.
One of the boys is from a hogher middle class Jewish family, the black kid lives in poverty with his grandmother.
The premise of the movie is that life's not fair.
Actually there is nothing much (spectacular) happening in the movie still I think it's pleasant to watch.
As always it's a pleasure to see Anthony Hopkins play, in this movie as the grandfather of the Jewish boy.
There are (mostly) descrete references to the horrors of the Holocaust.
It's as well dramatic, sometimes a little bit funny and also emotional.
Certainly not a waste of time to watch...
Fawlty Towers (1975)
Greatest comedy series ever!!!
Since I'm born in 1977, in the middle of the making of the two seasons I can't claim that this series are from my generation.
But in my all my life I never saw a series that was more funny then this one.
Since I discovered them, some 30 years ago, I more or less watch them annually and evey time again there are moments that my body hurts from laughing and tears roll down my cheeks.
Although John Cleese later choose for the big money, by playing in James Bond and other commercial, sometimes from a questionable quality, he stays a pioneer and hero for me. He's a genius of comedy.
I'm from Belgium, so I'm quite familiar with the Britisch stiff manners, what's an absolutely necessity to get the finesse.
I think that American viewers who never been to the U. K. or similar countries in Europe will miss some jokes but there still enough situations that are universally funny!
Absolutely recommended!!!
Black Mirror (2011)
Horrifying!!!
Some episodes of these series are amongst the most brilliant television ever.
As each episode stands completely on their own you don't have to watchb them in order.
Most of the you can qualify under horror or science fiction, both not my cup of tea normally. But these movies ('cause that is what they are, middle-short movies) bring the genres to a new level.
Mostly. Of course they are not all of the same genius quality but they keep a certain standard.
When I just hear about them I binged the 4 seasons then available in some days. Don't. It's too alienating. People with unstable minds can get psychotic reactions.
What makes them so great, and now I'm talking about the science fiction aspect, is that about aliens or stupid space chases. It's about now. They use the technologie now available but sometimes (luckilily) not yet integrated in our lives.
Sometimes it's about more future technology, or fantasy events but it's most of the times on a subtle way, not big special effects and brainless action. It always has a creepy, crazy, psychological twist.
I can go on praising these series but I would say; watch!!!
Absolutely recommended.
Thet just aired the 6th season, I saw 3 from the 6 episodes and wow!!!
