Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clown Suits (2023)
Breathe if fresh air, really love Alex
Alex Borstein is a superstar. Soooo much better than a lot of the stand up comedies that are receiving more notoriety at the moment. Hopefully she can lead a TV or a movie role next. She is a force to be reckoned with! She has only improved since madTV and showed her inner brain mechanisms through this comedy special and in her recent TV show mrs maisel. She is having a resurgence and deserves it ten fold. Also loved how it showed the dichotomy of this beautiful woman that is hilarious (on mrs maisel) and how Alex being a truly hilarious person but had to play this ambiguous and aggressive character that was just as attracting due to her hilarious and magnetic personality.
This even filmed in the same theatre that mrs maisel performed her stand up. Alex is hilarious and the fact that she doesn't star as the main lead in a television show makes me question if we have really gotten further enough as a society to have a women in her "past due" age that can achieve the same success or staring role as a woman in her 20s/30s.
She is my type of comedy and I'm looking forward to more specials from her.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
I don't understand the recent 5/10 star reviews?
Probably one of the smartest, funniest shows that is on right now. If you come from a Jewish family it really hits home. Obvious a satire on (jewish tiger) parents back in the day (and now tbh). The writing is incredible and the stand ups are hilarious but it also comes with these emotional moments of these growing characters and their evolution, through the ups and downs of achieving their dreams as women in the 50/60s and how hard the prejudice really was and the priorities and beliefs of people born back in that time, and shows that this was an era where everything really changed for the better and women get to really express themselves and the fight they made to take their careers seriously.
The cinematography, the production value, the fact that Alex Borstein finally gets a role that really takes her talent to the next level and shows her chops sooo well. The acting is superb even as dramatic, funny and dynamic the characters dialogues can be. Excellent actors all around.
I've cringed, laughed hysterically and teared up watching this show.
Got very invested in both the lead actresses and their trajectory. Can't wait for their future roles. Coming from a previous actor, the one shot scenes they film must be so difficult and strategic with all the cast and production team working in sync.
Watched the first episode of the fifth season tonight and I'm sad for this show to end but I know it's probably time for the best to wrap up all the characters story arcs but I'll miss it.
