Sunshine (2007)
Fantastic! So damn underrated!
Face it! Sunshine is a great sci-fi! You've never seen anything like this before. It's not a typical end-of-the-world movie. Instead of focusing on the panic, screams and devastation down on earth, we follow the 8 crew members on Icarus II; the entire planet's survival rests on their shoulders.
What's great about this film, is Boyle's way of creating atmosphere. Like the Mecury scene near the beginning of the movie, were we see a little black dot floating around the sun, while the crew members watches in silence. Combine this scene and John Murphy's incredible score, you'll have the perfect movie-scene.
The movie then takes a turn, when tragedy happens, and the mission nearly ends. Nothing I wanna spoil here just watch the movie and experience the fantastic, sad scene.
2012 (2009)
POSSIBLE SPOILER: Watch California sink into the ocean...
...or watch Hawaii been over floated with a sea of steaming magma. Or watch a giant 500 m. high tsunami knock over The White House.
These a just a few of the many action-filled visual effects shown in this movie; 2012. A modern survival-story, where we follow a family trying to stay alive while the whole world around them is beginning to end.
In 2009 we make a terrifying discovery, when a group of scientists explore a solar-wind bursting towards the Earth. It makes the center of the Earth to heat up, and in the year 2012, the consequences is starting: California cracks in half and sinks to the Atlantic Sea, and Earth's inner core heats up Yellowstone and makes it explode in a giant rain of rocks and fire.
We are following Jackson (Cusack) and his family who simple tries to stay alive... but where can you go when the whole earth is going under? In 3 years the Government secretly has been building giants "Noah's Arks"; they have been prepared to the end of the world without letting us know it.
Short review: 2012 have comic, drama, rolling giant donuts and best of all, spectacular visual effects that totally blows your mind. You don't need to go see 2012 for the story and the acting, but simply sit down and enjoy every second of the CGI.
Why do I give this 7? Because this is also a movie with something to say, coming from the heart.
Scream Awards 2007 (2007)
"...and the winner is ... 28 WEEKS LATER!"
Finally, there is a show that celebrates all the big, bloody, scary and disgusting horror films... Scream Award is probably the most sickest show that has ever been created! Goodies for us horror fans.
Scream Awards celebrate the best horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films, and the best comics that have been created. This year we see films as 300, Grindhouse, Harry Potter and of course the sequel of Dany Boyle's 2002 horror-hit 28 Days Later: 28 Weeks Later. (Winner of BEST HORROR) I looked forward to this year's Scream Award, 'cause my personal favorite movie "28 Weeks Later" was nominated for some prices. Among other Best Horror and Scream of the Year. 28 Weeks Later won the prize "Best Horror", and hit films such as "1408", "Grindhouse", "The Descent", "The Host" and "Hostel: Part 2". Unfortunately stole 300 the prize for "Best Scream" where "28 Weeks Later", "Harry Potter", "The Descent" and many other films were nominated. But Scream Award is absolutely worth a look next year, when new bloody horror films get the chance to win a Scream price ...
28 Days Later... (2002)
Lesson one: You never go anywhere alone, unless you've got no choice. Lesson two: Only travel during daylight, unless you've got no choice
The film is shot with hand-held DV-cameras (Digital Video) to make it looks like some kind of documentary film; for me, it just make it even more scarier. And kinda you can say it is a documentary, as director Boyle says, he in a way "warn" us. In "Pure Rage: The Making of 28 Days Later" scientist studied a Ebola, which the Rage Virus in the film is based on, and says that it is not impossible for virus to do as much damage as in the movie! My and my family rent the film back in 2003 when it came out. Actually I wouldn't see it at this time, but my sister's friend said that it was awesome, so she absolutely WANTED to see it too I saw it that evening
Oh my God
!
When Jim walked out the hospital and out on the empty streets with Godspeed You Black Empore's "East Hasting" playing in the background, my first thought was: How did they do that?! I mean, how did they shut down the streets in London? Amazing scene, one of the best made, actually. The first big chase-scene starts about 10 minutes into the film, were Jim enters the church. That scene scared me a lot first time I saw it. The chase-scene ends with a huge, cool gas-station explosion, that cost the crew £250,000 in total. The film has many other chase-scenes, like in the tower block, just before Jim and Selena meet Frank and Hannah, I think that it is a cool scene; good edited by Chris Gill. I think Danny Boyle has created a new type of film making: He uses abnormal camera-angels that I never ever have seen in a film before, he accentuate the colors and then he makes a fantastic atmosphere
The film ends with a impressive climax-scene, which I mean is the best climax-scene, I've ever seen.
I don't just recommend this film for horror-fans but for every movie-lover, because for me, it's more than just a horror
There's action, thrilling, scenes that makes you jump, there is love, it's sad
6/6 stars!
