Knuckles: The Flames of Disaster (2024)
ugh........
This was honestly painful to watch. Very painful. Other people found this episode funny... for me it was so annoying and over the top that my finger was hovering over the back button for a solid 15 minutes.
The episodes premise is Wade learning to take care of his own problems and to toughen up. But instead of it being a funny, entertaining episode, it is Wade and other random people talking for 15 minutes and a rock opera blaring for the other 6. Also, instead of handling Knuckles back story maturely and seriously, it's presented in said rock opera as Wade dances around in a Knuckles costume like an idiot.
Also... knuckles is in this episode for a total of one minute. One.
Only reason it's not a 1/10 is because I've seen worse, and because of the very beginning and very end.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever (2023)
A Surprisingly Entertaining Improvement over the Last Two
Going into this movie, my expectations were understandably low after the garbage that was released the previous two years. However this definitely crushed those expectations. This movie is no doubt the best animated one so far, and a pretty solid Christmas movie.
"Cabin Fever" is probably my favorite book in Jeff Kinney's series, so I was pretty happy when a movie was announced. Obviously I was still cautious due to how bad the first one and Rodrick Rules were, but this was pretty good. It has a very strong Christmas vibe which I wasn't expecting, the voice acting improved ten-fold, and it was overall really entertaining.
I also appreciate how much Greg Heffley grows as a character throughout this. He starts off still somewhat mean and selfish, but by the end he ends up as a selfless, kind-hearted teenager. The characters in this movie are just very well written all around, and somehow even Manny is pretty tolerable and actually said something that let out a weak laugh from me. I also throughly enjoyed watching the sequence where the snowstorm trapped everyone inside, as that was a huge highlight of the book and this movie portrayed it pretty dang well. The movie also portrays very wonderful messages about spending time with family, telling the truth, being on your best behavior, and enjoying the holiday season.
Obviously there are still some cons, because these movies will probably never be a 10/10 let alone a 9/10. First off, this movie has a lot more annoyingly cringe dialogue compared to the other animated movies, particularly with Susan. I've never liked Susan in the animated movies because of her annoying voice and her overly-cheery personality. Rowley is also not the greatest in this one, but definitely better than the first two movies. Second, the beginning is the weakest part and drags on about 25 minutes too long.
Overall, this movie really really surprised me since Disney has released some real stinkers this year and the first two animated Wimpy Kid movies were less than mediocre. The Christmas spirit is strong, there's a ton of character development, and is a great movie in general. 8/10, would recommend to Wimpy Kid fans and Christmas lovers alike.
The Santa Clauses (2022)
Oh My God This Show Is Awful; Cringe, Stale-acting, and Irritating
This show is quite possibly one of the worst Christmas related medias I've ever seen. The original series is pretty good and hilarious, and this does a HUGE disservice to that.
The first season has the worst plot I've ever seen and I honestly can't remember what it was about. It hardly makes any sense to begin with, and the characters don't seem to really care about anything. The worst thing about it is probably the humor. This show has some of the worst jokes ever written, and the show is on levels of cringe that I didn't even think was possible. Specifically with the two elves Betty and Noel. They have literally some of the most annoying dialogue I've ever heard and the cringe is higher than the heavens. Lastly, I don't think the actors have ever heard of acting. Every single person in it sounds like they're just there for the paycheck, and they show absolutely no emotions whatsoever. No matter what situation they're in, they have the same emotions and it's genuinely so annoying. It's not as big of a problem in the second season, but it's still pretty bad.
Terrible, cringey show; only recommended for Facebook moms who find literally everything funny. 1/10.
The Amazing World of Gumball (2011)
Slightly overrated, but still an absolute CN classic
About a year ago, this show was probably my favorite CN show... that is until I decided to watch Regular Show for the first time. Don't get me wrong though, this show is pretty dang good.
I think what oversells it for me though are the weird facial expressions some of the characters make, and the incessant need to make annoying noises. But in general, the show is still really funny, clever, very relatable, and has one of the best portrayals of the Internet I've ever seen.
Unfortunately, IN MY OPINION, it's overshadowed by Regular Show just because Regular Show had a complete ending and was way funnier.
Maybe whenever Season 7 and/or the movie releases, I'll bump this up to a 10/10.
Kipper (1997)
Cute, Funny, Heartwarming, and Cozy - This show is underrated
I feel grateful that I grew up watching this, because it is one of the best kids shows I've ever seen. It's really cute, heartwarming, funny, and for some reason, cozy and warm. (I don't know how to explain it; it's just really cozy and calm)
If you have never heard of this show (which there's probably a good chance you haven't; it's not very common) think of Pocoyo if it had animals and wasn't tailored specifically for very little kids.
The main character is a British dog named Kipper who goes on adventures with some of his friends in the wild, his house most of the time, the beach, and more. The reason I rated it so high is because it's a very cute and cozy little show that has some genuinely good messages, and somehow, gut-wrenching scenes. Most of the episodes take place in Kippers house and surrounding areas as he discovers random things and conflicts. Going back to what I said earlier, this show is really calm and cozy for some reason. The blank background, British voice acting, calm art style, and small areas make it feel really special and calm. Unlike most kids shows nowadays that are always loud and filled to the brim with annoying and overstimulating noises, this one is very calm and cozy and a delight to watch.
If you're still confused, this is a good show to watch on a rainy day, and an even better show for your children as they can actually learn really good messages. 10/10 :)
Secret Invasion: Home (2023)
So incredibly bad it's actually hilarious omg
What the heck is this. Not gonna lie, this is probably the worst tv episode I've ever seen in my life, let alone worst finale. This is actually so laughably bad that when it ended, I said outloud, "good job, Marvel. I am never watching any of your shows ever again" (unless it involves a season 2 of Moon Knight, Loki, or WandaVision (the only good MCU shows)). This ending is incomprehensibly bad. I cannot describe how much anger I felt when the show ended. I don't have the time or energy to put everything I hated about it here because it would take forever, but let me put it this way: This was so bad it needs to be retconned. It ends with some idiot we don't care about gaining literally every single power in the MCU to defeat a one-off villain that was not even ONCE threatening. Couldn't have anyone done that? Anyone could've injected some DNA in them that has EVERY SUPERHEROES powers into themselves. And of course, G'iah did it. If they wanted to have this special DNA thing a plot point, they should've made it to where no one used it. It's so unbelievably unfair that she automatically becomes the most powerful being in the universe that it makes me genuinely angry.
And that isn't even the only thing bad in this episode. The show literally ends on the worst possible note in history. The president decides to automatically declare every alien bad, and then Nick Fury decides to just take his wife and then leave after doing NOTHING for an entire show.
I have a review for the whole show as well, but i felt this needed its own review to clarify that this doesn't deserve to be part of the MCU.
So incredibly stupid
0/10.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Breath of Fresh Air after So Many Bad DC Movies
*Extremely minor spoilers ahead*
It's no surprise that DC movies have been extremely hit or miss recently, with The Flash being one of the biggest disappointments in cinema history. However, this movie was finally a hit for the DC universe and really surprised me.
Coming into this movie, I had heard decent things about it so I kept my expectations neutral and went in with an open mind. And by the end, I walked out happy, knowing that I just saw, finally, a really good DC movie. Keep in mind this movie is not for everyone, and gets pretty generic at times, but overall, it's pretty solid.
The plot revolves around Jaime Reyes, a 22 year old man who just graduated and went home to his Mexican family. His family has strong love for each other, and they're all really funny. After learning they're in debt, he wants to get a job to help his family. He eventually meets a young woman named Jennifer Kord, who is a descendant of Ted Kord, the owner of Kord Industries, a tech company. After meeting, she tells him that if he wants a job, then he should meet her at Kord Tower the next day. When he shows up, he finds Jenny running from law enforcement. When Jaime asks what's wrong, she gives him a case with a special Scarab in it and tells him to protect and not open it. When he returns home, his goofy family tries to convince him to open it, so he does. A Blue Beetle hops out and attaches to Jaime, transforming him into the ultimate weapon.
The rest of the movie involves Jenny Kord's aunt attempting to retrieve the Beetle from Jaime and his family, with the help of a hardened soldier in a tech suit, similar to Jamie's. The villain is probably the weakest part of the movie, and her voice acting is really monotone. Her motivations are also really cliche and overused, but the way the movie plays out turns it into something unique.
The movie turns into a beautiful story about family and family dynamics, and the Reyes all have incredible love for each other. In my opinion, that's where the movie succeeds the most, as the Reyes are really sweet and absolutely hilarious, especially George Lopez' Uncle Rudy. It's a breath of fresh air with some amazing action and an even more amazing sense of humor and emotion. I really recommend this movie; it's heartwarming, epic, and really, really funny. Really the only thing the movie fails at is making a legitimate motivation for the main villain other than "money!!! Power!!! Corporate stuff!!"
Overall, it's a 9/10, would recommend :)
Oh and also the main theme song is epic :)
SpongeBob SquarePants: Sandy's Nutmare/Bulletin Board (2016)
Bulletin Board is Genius
Normally I wouldn't leave a review for an episode of a TV show, but I have to say, these two episodes are rare late-SpongeBob gems; especially Bulletin Board.
The first one, Sandy's Nutmare is about Sandy making a special peanut butter with the nuts from her tree. Everyone in Bikini Bottom LOVES it (especially Patrick) so she abuses her tree with growth chemicals to make even more. Eventually, a shaman learns of this and tells her to lay off the peanut butter and tells her a story. She realizes what she's done, and stops using the growth chemicals. It's a very funny episode, has a decent message, and is one of the best Sandy episodes. 9/10
Now, Bulletin Board is even better; probably one of the best SpongeBob episodes. It revolves around Mr. Krabs putting up a community Bulletin Board so the Krusty Krab customers can share their thoughts. (Much like the Internet... hint hint) At first, everyone only says nice things and they encourage Pearl when she puts up a drawing she made. But when Mr Krabs starts charging for the board, more and more people start to use it. One day, an anonymous user named P-Star 7 puts up a rude post and everyone is shocked. Bubble Bass claims he's using freedom of speech and his post cannot be taken down just because it upset SpongeBob. Later, more and more people start to put up more honest, critical posts on the board as P-Star 7 continues to leave mean posts. What's genius about this is how clearly it represents the modern Internet, with the rise in criticism, insults, and people just expressing the worst side of themselves. So eventually, Mr Krabs realizes the board is only doing harm because of P-Star, so they have a stakeout to see who it is... and it's Patrick. His posts were misinterpreted, not meant to be offensive. So Mr Krabs gets fed up and tears down the Bulletin Board.
The reason I love this episode so much is the obvious connection to the Internet. Much like The Amazing World of Gumball, it accurately describes the Internet PERFECTLY. Overall, this episode is amazing and has a really good message and is one of the few SpongeBob episodes in the newer seasons that I enjoyed throughly. 10/10.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
This is an absolute, perfect, MASTERPIECE!
*MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD*
I'm not kidding when I say this is one of, if not the greatest movie I have ever seen. I'm not kidding. It somehow surpasses the first in every way possible, even though the first was outstanding.
Pros (almost everything):
Where to start?!? Where do I even begin? Everything about this movie is literally outstanding. The soundtrack, the action, the plot, and especially the characters and the animation.
First of all, the plot is genius and literally had me on the edge of my seat for the entire 2 hours and 16 minutes. It throws so many twists and turns that leave you wanting more and handles the cameos in superb ways, which I'll talk about more later. Now, for a basic rundown of the plot. The movie opens with Gwen Stacy having trouble in her universe revolving around her dad. She reveals her identity, but he ultimately disapproves. 2099 shows up with one of the most badass entrances I've ever seen and recruits her into the Spider Society. Cut to Morales dealing with what he thought would be "the villain of the week," the Spot. Afterward, Miles struggles with issues concerning his parents and anxiety when Gwen shows up to see him. When she prepares to leave, he follows her and hears a tough conversation between Gwen and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). Gwen leaves through a portal, but so does Miles. This wasn't supposed to happen, so chaos ensues when he starts messing with what is known as the canon events for Spider-Men alike. This angers 2099, leading him to chase after Miles in white-hot, badass, anger. When he runs away to go home, the movie ends with him inevitably winding up in the wrong universe and the previous Spider-People having to save him.
There is obviously more to this, but it's AMAZING and has SO MANY dramatic moments.
Another thing that has to be mentioned is are the cameos. There are SO MANY. Spectacular Spider-Man, Lego Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, The Scarlet Spider, and tons more. Sure, it's just fan service, but it's amazing.
Con:
My ONLY minor complaint is how the very beginning is a little weak. But compared to the rest of this absolute banger, it doesn't matter.
I cannot stress ENOUGH how good this movie is. If I could, this would be rated a 12/10.
