Love Is a Map (2022)
Unexplained actions and choices
I don't mind slow movies. In fact, I like slow movies. So that is not my issue with Love Is a Map. What I don't like is these recurring images with something blurry in the foreground, be it a shoulder, a vase or any unidentified object. I suppose they are meant to make you feel like a spy, present in the vicinity of the action. But when there is nothing to spy on, no secrets to be revealed, they don't make much sense. They are just ugly. There are a couple of beautiful shots in the film, but these blurry foreground images are just ugly.
The interaction between the two leads is strange. The love scene is cold as ice. Hot kiss with closed lips? (like: "I don't wanna kiss a woman with an open mouth", "Okay. Well, kiss her like a friend, but just a little bit longer".) We are to believe that two persons that has been in love with each other since heaven knows when and finally has an opportunity to make a life together, decide to walk separate ways. If that is what's happening, we need an explanation - but we don't get one. They just walk away.
The Fine Art of Love: Mine Ha-Ha (2005)
Not a thriller - and certainly not erotic
What was the point of this movie? A disgusting and slow telling of a story about young women being groomed for r_ape? I wish I hadn't seen it - I really do. I would have given it a score of two stars but the title scene of the dancing feet was worth one extra star. I should have ended my watching after that.
As a thriller, it failed to put me even close to the edge of my seat. Some people have called it an erotic thriller, but the erotics are limited to friendly kisses, implied feelings and a closeup of some (body-double?) breasts. If there were something more, I must have missed it because I lost interest pretty soon. I just wish I had lost enough interest to turn away from this movie before the awful ending.
The Witcher (2019)
More confusing than Primer
This could have been so good, but the incompetent script writers dropped the manuscript on the floor and gathered the pages in a random, totally inconsistent order. Filming it in that order is not new, its not creative or innovative; its just confusing. It took me three episodes of "Hey, isn't she dead? Must be a twin" and "What? He went back?" before I understood that this was a time machine gone mad.
On the positive side, though; Geralt must be one of the best castings ever, judging only from my experience of the games. I never liked him in the games and I don't like him here - but damn, is he good.
