Will Trent (2023)
Poor casting review #46,233
As many other reader/viewers have noted the casting of Will Trent is HORRIBLE and Will's quirks are a big part of what makes the stories so interesting. Aside from Ramon Rodriguez's looks, which are the complete opposite of the character in the books, Will Trent is fastidious to the point of being anal. He would never have stubble on his cheeks unless he'd been held hostage for days on end. He would never wear a loose dress shirt collar barely tucked under his suit coat lapels or have such a poorly tied necktie. The southern accent that comes and goes just makes him seem ridiculous. As other reader/viewers have noted, he captures none of the social awkwardness of people on the autistic spectrum, which I think Will definitely is. The flirting and sexy smiles at Angie were completely out of character. She was the one always coming on to him, not the other way around. And he would never have admitted to one of his co-workers that he loved Angie.
Skyline (2010)
A waste of time, money and brain cells
"Skyline" was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. There wasn't an original thought or special effect in the movie. It was a horrible mash-up of lots of other sci-fi movies, some of which were actually pretty good. The one that immediately comes to mind is "War of the Worlds." The "Skyline" script was incredibly lame, but the lameness wasn't funny - so there was no relief from the schlock. I was literally rolling my eyes because it was so bad. A lot more has been done with a lot less in movies such as "District 9" and "28 Days Later." Every member of the cast and crew must have been told to give it a 10 on IMDb because that's the only way it could have received 259 votes. Skip this one - it would be a rip off even if you saw it for free on cable.
Sherlock Holmes (2009)
Ho-Hum
I'm surprised by all the glowing reviews. I saw the movie on Christmas Day along with six other family members. The two youngest (ages 17 and 20) liked it a lot, but the rest of us weren't as enthusiastic. Many of Robert Downey Jr.'s lines were difficult to understand because he spoke in a soft, low voice without moving his mouth much. Because Sherlock Holmes' deductions are often responsible for connecting the dots in the plot, were were sometimes confused. The film LOOKS great, and I really wanted to like it, because I've always thought Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant, but overall I thought the movie was ho-hum, and so did the rest of my party.
The Happening (2008)
Shyamalan Blows It Again
"The Happening" was T E R R I B L E! Definitely the worst of M. Night Shyamalan's movies. I kept shaking my head throughout the movie and thinking, "You blew it again!" The acting was awful (Mark Wahlberg stars), there was no character development and virtually no plot - just lots of people running away from a mysterious toxin that made people kill themselves in very gruesome ways. Even "Lady In The Water" was better than "The Happening." In fact, it was much better! I've stuck with Shyamalan through thick and thin, but I'm getting tired of waiting for him to get back on track. I was hoping this movie would do it, but it's more like a complete derailment.
