Taking Chance (2009)
Just a US Military propaganda movies
I normally wouldn't have written any comment about this movie but I was really amazed of the huge number of comments that say that this is a 'must see', 'extraordinary', 'wonderful' , 'fantastic' and the list of superlatives goes further. Well I didn't find this at all and definitely not a must see. Probably if you are indoctrinated with ideas like the American Bush's Anti-terror campaign, you will find it 'sooo coool'. Thou, seen from outside is just a boring movie - not even a documentary, that sometimes turns stupid. For instance there is a scene where Kavin Bacon has to pass the metal check gate at the airport and he wears his military uniform but because he doesn't want to denigrate it he refuses to take it off; another one that I found making no sense at all was the one with the stewardess gives him a cross just like that. You have to be armed with patience because the scene where the casket is being military saluted repeats endless. At the beginning it may impose a certain respect but repeated to obstinacy it just becomes annoying and looses all the emotional power. What I find really bad is that the movie induces the fake idea that dying can be cool because afterward the whole nation with no exception will respect you, will cry for you and change. Reality is not like that! actually is far from that and besides,
innocent people fooled by this propaganda start believing, enroll, lose their lives and that is not cool at all. More other things can be added to the negative aspects list but I just wanted to be objective and keep a balance in this 'User Comments'.
Trei frati de belea (2006)
A good Romanian comedy
I found this movie quite good and is a nice performance of the Romanian cinematography. I was surprised to find different humour styles, more than one could expect after seeing the show "Vacanta Mare" (since most of the characters are borrowed from there). In this movie, both Mugur Mihaiescu and Radu Pietreanu recreate (ofcourse by highlighting and potentiating) the way some families lieve in Romania and what their mentalities are, for example: the scene with the barbecue on the green space in the hart of the city where no one seem to have a problem with the smoke, cars, noise, etc.; the scene when she throws the soup out of the window; the way gypsy clans built their houses and how they do not care about the laws, and so on. Another thing that I really enjoyed is the music. It was amazingly good, combining the traditional music with 'manele' and with the modern techno and so covering almost the whole spectrum one can find in Romania. The the characters are all different and all are quite funny. This sometimes reminds of Mr. Bean's or Adam Sandler's movies. I found it really relaxing and entertaining.
