Daria (1997)
smartest animated series EVER
Other animated series have masterfully made satire of our sick sad world - South Park, The Simpsons, Futurama, The Critic, Duckman - but I think of Daria as the comfort food of the genre, because unlike the other series with their over-the-top slapstick humor, the characters and stories presented in Daria really could exist and happen ~ and probably do and have. One can relate to them on a realistic, everyday level. This show is definitely for the thinking person who has learned to see through the BS of the "American way of life."
Galaxies Are Colliding (1992)
at last, proof that I'm not alone
I don't understand the (currently) low rating. Jeez, no it's not Citizen Kane, but it's not intended to be. I identify with Adam's problems dealing with the insanity and brutality of the modern world, and the universal and timeless question of why we exist. And I loved the tongue-in-cheek humor. My favorite line is Adam's friend Peter's observation that "... sometimes I think we're all just a bunch of solar-powered sh*t machines."
