The Blind Side (2009)
AMAZING Sandra Bullock, inspiring story
First off, Sandra Bullock is just mind-blowing. There simply could not have been a better actress to play this role, so the casting was spot on. But she's not just right for the part, the acting itself was simply amazing. She was genuine, funny, gentle yet brave and strict. Simply amazing. Ms Bullock, if you are reading this: thank you. You are truly inspiring! You are talented and all your feel-good movies really do make us all feel good, no matter what the nay-sayers say! Now, back on the movie. It was simply wonderful! The story is truly inspiring. I've read quite a few comments which called this movies things like awful. Nosir, this movie is a must-see. It's kind, original, funny, family-like and inspiring. It preaches all the things that a real person should appreciate: family, kindness to others, hard work and education, sports, understanding and, well, color-blindness. I simply loved it. I watched it once myself and once more with me wife, who was WOWed by it as well. I can not recommended it more!
P.S. It's funny how nowadays people can rate some zombie-movie 10, but they rate a movie like this low. Why? Because it's not cool to be kind to others? Because it's not cool to see a movie about family and school? I mean, I honestly don't understand what is wrong with the world today :/ P.P.S. And I love and respect Sandra Bullock for all her comedy movies. They help a lot of people feel good, especially at this economic times. There is NOTHING wrong with silly movies and comedies. Go Ms Bullock!
Do the Right Thing (1989)
Nothing but love for the block. One of the best movies of all time
To start with, I honestly don't have enough words to describe this movie. Everything about it is perfect in every single way. It pictures a typical American block with such love, respect and adoration I wish everyone had in their hearts. Each character is so real and complete you can almost feel you know him in real life. Some of them are good, some bad, but no matter what, you feel that they are real. As the story unveils you get to know more and more of each of them: what drives them, why bothers them about their place in life and other people around them. Some say that Spike Lee shots nothing but racial movies, but I don't think he takes any sides. Look at each side in this story, each of them has their own skeletons in their closet and each was ultimately responsible for the events the movie led up to. Well, as I mentioned at the start of this little review, I really can't describe this movie good enough. The story, the casting, the direction and even colouring, are all brilliant. And when I say brilliant i rather mean smth like: it doesn't get any better than this. This movie is one of the best movies I have ever had a pleasure to see, and Spike Lee is one of the greatest directors alive.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Is there such thing as too much robots? YES. A sequel that lacks soul...
I was going to the sequel to Transformers with very high expectation, namely: expecting to come out not simply amazed by the special effects, but also inspired by the idea of noble robots protecting what's right. Did that happen? Well, in part yes. What I liked about the movie is the basic fable of it. However the way the movie was shoot leaves it way behind the original Transformers. Here's what I did not like: - too much robots, making everything look like a huge mess - too big robots - too fast action sequences, which look like a bunch of robots squezed together, like a giant robot taking whole screen; which make you wonder: "what has just happened?!" - too complex robots, that won't allow me to grasp the "coolness" - soulless new robot characters (eg: the twins, new guy, etc) - areas that should've been left alone (eg: cyborgs) - flat humor
All in all, the movie is mediocre. Don't mix is with bad, because it's not. It simply lacks "soul", lacks the warmth of the first part, lacks the nobility, the greatness. It's hard to describe a movie without a soul, you just feel that it's not there.
It's worth going to the movies to see, but that's about it. And to Mr. Bay I got this to say: don't try to capitalise on the success of the original Transformers, because a sequel doesn't have to follow the "same times 2" formula. Make the 3rd Transformers it's own movie, don't repeat, don't rush, don't multiply robots. Less is more.
Lie to Me (2009)
Genius!!!
This is one of the best and smartest series I've ever seen, I mean, a lot of regular shows got quality and style, but this got real smarts, originality and humor too! First off, the basic premise of the show is original, since mimics and facial expressions and gestures is a topic largely unexplored but at the same time interesting to pretty much everyone. Secondly, the cast is top notch: Tim Roth is excellent and was simply made for the role! Ms Williams performance is, well, charming. Remaining supporting cast is great as well (Ms Raymund and Brendan Hines)! Also, the way that almost every episode (of the 12 so far), deals with not 1 case per episode, but with 2. Anyhow, I think LIE TO ME is basically for everyone: it's not too violent, doesn't have much bad language in it. It's original, fresh, funny, elegant and is about a mysterious subjects: lies and human face.
Keith (2008)
Do not miss this. This will reach out to your soul and touch the person inside of you
One of the best movies of all times. No kidding.
Well, to start with, I've done just watching this and I can't even start to describe this... I mean, there are movies that I say are "great" or "amazing", but I always forget that when I say those words I mean something completely different. Because in comparison to Keith, those greats and amazings are just OKs and goods (maybe).
This movie is simply mindblowing. It brought up all the good in me, the kind of good that I almost forget I have. The kind of good that makes you wanna help people. The kind of good that makes you think and remember that my problems are NOTHING in comparison to what some people might face. The kind of good that reminds me that every single day, every minute, every second I live, all that time, those days that I sometimes (quite a lot) think are boring. All that some people don't have. I have the health, the time and so many opportunities that I long time forgot to appreciate.
This is the kind of movie that makes you remember to cherish every second, to leave a mark on life of every person, to have no time to waste, because one day it might just all end. Just like that.
I'm sorry that my review is kind of a mess, but it's hard to express everything I feel at the moment.
And going back to the movie. It is amazing. Brilliantly shoot. Brilliantly casted and acted. Written so well I can't even describe. I'm going to see this in the cinema, I'm going to buy a DVD (and keep a copy of any other format it'll be released in). This is something that you WILL regret missing and thank the almighty after you'll see it. Amazing...
Firefly (2002)
Joss Whedon-genius.Firefly-perfection.I miss it SO much...
First of all, I can't even express how I miss Firefly. I mean, it literally kills me that it's over. I mean, all series end eventually, but what kills me the most in this case, that it ended so fast...
The series is just perfect and the main reason behind it is the fact that it was about the STORY, not special effects. I love the cast, the stories, the humor. I adore all the attention to small things and details and I really do think this is what movies and series SHOULD be. You can't really find too much of that these days.
I watched Whedon's Angel and Buffy, which were amazing as well, but Firefly simply sets the bar SO high! I'd really recommend ANYONE Angel, Buffy, but foremost of all - Firefly. OWN them if you're a fan of sci-fi and vampire stories, OWN them if you simply enjoy quality storytelling and film-making.
I miss Firefly so dearly and I hope with all my heart it will come back someday...
