Hell's Half Acre (2006)
A non-stop cheese ride indeed
I bought this DVD on a whim at the Motor City Comic Con. The DVD box described the film as "An insanely fun non-stop cheeseride" Being a fan of obscure B flicks, I just had to pick it up.
An actual full size house is burned down, a truck is tipped over, a body is lit on fire, there are gun battles involving the police, and a chaingun interrupts a community gathering! Hah! The behind the scenes segment is as fun as the movie itself. The featurette describes how the filmmakers did all this over the course of five years with absolutely NO MONEY! This was very inspiring to me. Many laugh out loud moments including the believable introduction to the film from the WAKE UP CALL FOR PARENTS organization who wants to 'ban' the film. The only thing I didn't like much is that the FX (killings)are rather crappy and the film is rather short. But, it does indeed live up to its moniker, "An insanely fun non-stop cheese-ride!" I can't think of better words to describe it. It's a hoot!
Brutal Massacre: A Comedy (2007)
I will be quoting this movie until the day I die!
I loved this movie! The characters are so enjoyable and it was great to see everyone cast against type. For example, Gunnar Hansen (the original LEATHERFACE) appears as a foul mouthed Vietnam vet and the role of the grip in the film belongs to Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead). It was also fun to see Gerry Bednob from The 40 Year Old Virgin hamming it up with some hilarious one-liners.
This movie had several laugh at loud moments for me, the Retirement Home bit especially. Oh, and you've got to see how Harry's movie ends! Very funny. And lastly, being a big fan of Evil Dead, it was fun to see Ellen, Betsy, and Theresa together again. This is indeed a real treat for horror fans. If you aren't a fan of horror, I can't speak for you, but I feel Brutal Massacre would be a good time for anyone.
