Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
I cant.. I dont.. really know what to say.
A haunting genius pice of art. So much more then the sum of its parts. The only way I can describe it is with a series of verbs.
Intimate, vulnerable, honest, funny, catchy, depressing, engaging, intellectual, political, angry, sad, too long, too short and so so beautiful.
Simply a masterpiece. A classic. One for the ages.
Le bureau des légendes: Episode #5.10 (2020)
MAJOR plottholes ends a show about getting all the details right.
Very disappointing. Malutrou looking for a "bomb" but NEVER seeing his daughter or girlfriend as target? And this murderer knows what time and place to go how? Kennedy is free to roam around and make plans freely why?
I could go on but what is the point.
Avenue 5 (2020)
MISUNDERSTOOD: NOT A SIT-COM, A DARK EXISTENTIAL COMEDY.. and yes funny!
So I couldn't get thru the first episode the first time I tried. I saw the trailers and I was expecting jokes at a high volume, light, over the top comedy and a silly premise.
I did not get that. I got something... I didn't understood. And I am a big fan of Armando (the creator) I WANTED this to work. It didn't for me. I gave up and never looked back. Until..
After seeing an interview with Armando about his film work, his love for satire and this new project. Again.. I got intrigued by this mans mind and I decided to try again. I just couldn't believe he wasn't aiming at something.. good or bad.. I decided to at least understand why I didn't like it.
This time I just took it for what it was. Didn't expect anything. What I found was social satire. Dark, existential humor that isn't about space but about people. Yes silly and weird but under that.. actual substance. A comedy about a dumb future with over the top characters faced with fear, panic, isolation and yes... death.
Now.. it important to not expect the sitcom standard of a joke a minute. You need to take it for what it is and embrace the craziness.
Because the funny thing is... this is funny... when you don't expect to be. Don't demand it to be Veep, In the thick of it. It's not. It's not suppose to be. It's something weird and new.
Yes it's not perfect. It has kind of a slow start. Some casting choices are questionable. The tone is.. odd. The premise is not for all. The pace, music and editing is both traditional and off kilter. You have to commit to get into it... now IF you stick with it you will probably like it. Or not. But you won't know if you don't watch the whole thing.
By the way: The trailers for this by HBO totally shot this show in its own foot. I think they threw a lot of people for a loop. I think many gave up feeling something was off about it.
Good luck!
I Care a Lot (2020)
misunderstood satire about america.
This movie is about america. From cowboys, to capitalism, to the logical conclusion: violance. Yes not perfect but well written, acted and directed.
