Mondo New York (1988)
"I am the mayor of New York City..."
This movie is just a small image of what NYC was like during the 80's. I'm so glad it was made. Joey Arias is brilliant (still is and still performing). He and Ann Magnuson daringly performed their art during the early 80's at places like Danceteria where I was lucky enough to see them. I don't see it as a b-movie at all. It's a documentary and if you've lived in NYC (especially the lower east side) during the 80's you'd understand its value. Thank you Harvey Keith, for saving a bit of time on celuloid.
Todo sobre mi madre (1999)
To mother, with love.
Having children of my own and understanding how close you can be to them helped make this one of my top favorite movies of all time. I saw this movie on opening weekend in NYC's Angelica Theater. Aldomovar touched every part of my heart with his characters. I loved it and proudly own it on DVD.
Superstar (1999)
"Who broke the good toaster?"
The movie is a classic SNL spoof of a very funny character. It's not for everyone so get over your problems with it's dry humor. The tree kissing was a bit out of place but, it did bring back the days of grammar school where "fitting in" was difficult if not challenging. I liked it, I bought it. Nuff said.
Death Race 2000 (1975)
At the Drive-In
I saw this move at a drive-in theater in 1975. I was um... never mind my age... it was probably my first glimpse at cult films. I would recommend it for it's near b-movie quality. See it with friends and be prepared to go back in time when films were more about art and creative spur of the moment design (killer cars and the people who drive them... hilarious!). You will laugh, gasp, and maybe add it to your cult collection?? I saw it again just to see how far Stallone has come as an actor. Personally I adore him. He had charm even back then on the screen.
BUtterfield 8 (1960)
No Sale!
I absolutely love Elizabeth Taylor in this film. I happen to find her acting flawless as a woman struggling to be someone, to be human, in a man's world. The film is a classic tale of lies, twisted love and genuine loss. I would recommend this film to anyone who has loved, lost and crossed the lines of searching for ones own identity.
xXx (2002)
Diesel Fuel!
The movie rocked from start to finish. I'm not going to give away any movie details. So Diesel, you finally grew into that voice. Back in the day as a bouncer and struggling actor there were some who are now not surprised to see you on the big screen. Cheers! Don't plan to miss any of your future flicks. ;)
