The Roommate (2011)
Idiotic to the point of being hilarious. Enjoyable if you don't take it seriously.
A group of my friends and I went to see this movie expecting a thriller/horror movie. We ended up laughing at how silly it was. It's a terrible movie - it feels as though it was written by a 9th grader. BUT, as I was with a group of friends, and the people in the theater were with their friends as well (and talkative - NYC theater), the wise cracks we made about our other friends in relation to the movie's characters made this "thriller" a hilarious comedy. But a comedy in the sense of an "American Home Videos" clip - an unfortunate event that never should have happened (the making of this film) but is none the less humorous to everyone that sees it.
Shallow plot. Few thrills. Insulting to mental-illness community. More enjoyable that doing dishes, but less enjoyable than watching a rerun of your favorite TV show - unless you have a group of friends that make wise-cracks. Then it's pretty cool. Still a terrible movie though.
We Are the Strange (2007)
Amazing piece of art, but poor entertainment.
Someone here said not to watch this movie for the plot, but to watch it for the visuals. Follow that advice! This movie is is an amazing, beautiful, stunning, _painting with audio_. This is an amazing piece of art, but this is far from a "movie". This is a series of beautiful paintings set to great video game style audio and sound effects. This movie belongs in a gallery, not a theater.
I'm not a huge art fan so I didn't really enjoy this movie past the first 10 minutes. Actually, I gave up after 35 minutes and just turned off the laptop. The movie lacks a plot (at least one I could detect), and between the visuals I was left wondering "is this what people see when they're on acid?". It an amazing piece of art, but not something I would call entertainment.
