X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
A Comic Book Nerd's Worst Nightmare
With exception to the action scenes which were great, this third X-Men film should not have been made without Bryan Singer - although given the fact that he left this project to work on an equally bad movie - Superman Returns, maybe not...
The storyline is good enough and the action and effects are top notch as I was expecting, but to fans of the X-Men comics, this was quite simply a sham.
There is SO much wrong with this movie I don't even know where to begin! Leech isn't a young white boy, he is a small green mutant, Kid Omega doesn't have spines protruding from his body, that is quill, yet this guy resembles Quill more than Kid Omega but is credited as the latter. Psylocke isn't bad, she is one of the X-Men not one of Magnetos gang - although in one comic series she is a member of the Hellfire Club.
There are a ton of other mistakes in the movie which makes it just plain disappointing for fans of X-Men like myself. I just hope that Jackmans 2009 Wolverine project is better...
12 Days of Terror (2004)
Not At All A Jaws Ripoff!
The movie is factually based, if you read the actual events that took place in Jersey in July 1916 you will see that the majority of the film stays true to events that happened.
As far as Alex being the one that stops the shark eventually, I think that is a little off-story, he is present and witness to all the attacks and uses that to tell the story in much the same way that the character of Rose tells the story of Titanic, yet she was never an actual passenger on the ship in real life.
Having read the events thoroughly, I then enjoyed the film immensely, it has no over the top CGI and relies heavily on the acting and storytelling. I can certainly see where Peter Benchley may have been inspired to write the novel Jaws.
Please don't go into this thinking that the film is a Jaws ripoff, it's not, it's the prequel!
