I started watching "The Walking Dead" at the end of 2010, so I missed the premiere by a few months, however, I quickly caught up by watching a marathon on AMC on New Years Eve, 2010. I was gripped by the first episode, which left me wanting to continue watching more. I was semi- passively watching it as I was preparing for a small party at my place and left off at the CDC episode. It's bothered me for years to know just what happened after that point and fortunately, I was able to stay away and shield myself from spoilers over the last few years. This New Year's Day, I decided to take the plunge and watch all three seasons from beginning to end on my Roku through Netflix. After I whipped through each of them, I felt emotionally drained but totally in awe that this show will go down in time as one of my all-time favorites. It says a lot for me to be hooked on a TV show, as I am a very discerning viewer and don't devote a lot of my time to TV series. Back to my emotionally drained self, I felt the highs as tension built up and some key members were dying off or going missing. Then happiness when things got back to a somewhat state of normalcy, however, that was never for too long.
I am just a little peeved at some of the reviews I am reading. Here are a few misleading things people are saying, and I will be frank about my view about how the reviewers are being inaccurate:
1) "The Walking Dead" does not just have an "occasional" zombie come around in Season 2. Season 2 is littered with them, and every episode features zombie madness - so stop your whining about there not being enough zombies and murder and death and black blood brain crushing.
2) Season 2 was slower paced than Season 1, but I think people forget that in many situations, when you involve many people from many different backgrounds with very different view points on how things should be done, there are going to be some stupid decisions and people are going to do stupid things - no matter how much their lives are in danger. This show is about the survival of the fittest - and stupidity is not exempt from that. SO, yes, stupid people are going to die and the show is basically saying, "Yeah, you weren't thinking so this is what you're going to get now - this world isn't made for your petty crap" It's a new reality that people aren't used to. That isn't the show's fault - The show is simply showing how people can make dumb decisions and the circumstances that will happen when they do.
3) Is is a soap opera? Well, I would call this "The Real Housewives of Zombie- Atlanta" but yes, there is some drama and love scenes because I think despite all the dreadfulness around them, these characters are entitled to a little happiness in the form of falling in love. And, Zombies are not going to stop people from doing that nor are they going to stop people from arguing. I mean, it's hard enough to keep Congress from arguing among one another; how can I expect a group of 30 people to not do the same?
4) And, let's face it. There are a lot of people out there with big egos. Their true colors show when something like this happens (or if it ever happens). Hence the reason there would be drama.

I rate this a "9" because there is a lot of suspense, drama, some love triangles, a little happiness, and a smidgen of hope of a new life that will hopefully end the Zombies forever.
