Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (2020)
I miss Phryne and Jack!
Yes, this movie was fantastical, but it is fiction, so just roll with it. It was fun. It takes you on journeys to faraway countries, there are grand entrances, beautiful elaborate scenes, clothing to die for. I enjoy seeing Phryne in outfits she keeps in pristine shape---running through shady streets after bad guys, almost getting trapped here and there, while I would get them dirty on a walk to my car. Her wardrobe is enormous! Who looks that meticulous on a camel ride in the desert? Where was her luggage in that plane? Who knows? I care not. The chemistry between the two characters is magical. I want more! And, that includes Mr. Butler, Rosie, and Hugh!
WPC 56 (2013)
Ever-changing cast members
I haven't seen mention of how frequently the cast members have changed, from the WPC, around whom the series was written to the DI--one for every season. And, they slipped in a new Mrs Briggs, hoping no one would notice. The chief inspector from the first season also left quite quickly. I wonder why all the recasts. The show itself seems to try too hard at being edgy. Surely, these times weren't all dark, corruption around every corner? And, do we really expect that the original WPC was dumb enough to try something on with the first inspector...who was married? And, then, she sleeps with a nightclub owner involved in an investigation in which he is a suspect? And, where did her parents go? Where did her boyfriend go? No resolution--just written out of the show. Finally, we learn that she has been transferred to the Met? Not believable.
Poirot: The Labours of Hercules (2013)
A compilation of the original collection
This episode combines several separate stories into one. It is well-executed, but if you have read the novel before having viewed this, you will find it difficult to watch, at first.
The Countess, who first appeared in The Double Clue, was around Poirot's age, at the time, and so was the actress who portrayed this character. However, we discover that the Countess must have found the fountain of youth during the 20 years since she and Poirot last saw each other, as the actress in this episode was born in the early 60s--20 years younger than the first one. All that freedom from a life of crime, I imagine, has restored her youth.
The Hustle (2019)
Awful, awful, awful
If I could give it 0 stars, it is what I'd have done. If you're going to steal an entire script from an iconic movie, tear it to pieces, and put it back together with duct tape, at least wait until Steve Martin and Michael Caine are dead. I'm so utterly offended by this vilest of remakes, I'm considering suing the company who put this out for the 20 minutes wasted watching. Oh, and raunchy is NOT funny, Rebel Wilson. Disgusting.
The Aeronauts (2019)
Insult to my intelligence
Yes, it is based on a true story, but why on earth did they find it necessary to change the gender of the main character? And, of course, the man who funded the adventure is portrayed as a cold, unfeeling character only interested in the money the expedition would generate...Not to mention how utterly unbelievable many of the actions were. A Gravity rip-off; To Gravity's credit, though, it was pure fiction. Please.
Becoming Jane (2007)
Anne Hathaway...?
...because there were no suitable English actresses available?
The ABC Murders (2018)
Dark...and far from the original intent of the novel.
As an ardent admirer of everything Agatha Christie, having begun reading her vast library of great works at the tender age of 10, I am deeply saddened by the recent adaptations to her novels. This is one of the most distressing. Among numerous unnecessary alterations, we are now supposed to accept that the brilliant detective lied about his past profession as a member of the Belgian police force? That he was, instead, a priest? That, at 60 years of age, as a recent refugee in England, he suddenly decided to detect? If Christie were not already dead, this would kill her. It is heart-breaking to at least one life long fan.

Grantchester: Episode #1.2 (2014)
Why is it...
That this guy who accidentally murders his wife doesn't get the death penalty, but Gary (season 2), who accidentally murders his friend, does? Class struggle at play?
Marple: Sleeping Murder (2006)
Writers take a lot of liberties
The only similarities between the book and this episode is the name and some of the characters. Otherwise, they may as well be two completely different stories. As a huge fan of Agatha Christie, I am deeply disappointed.
