Street Trash (1987)
Repulsive, Twisted but above all Hilarious!
Oh Street Trash, how I love thy sticky, melted hide. I watched this when I was about 13, admittedly I didn't get the majority of what I was watching but I knew it was special. So I watched it again just recently and something hit me: It seems that a lot of individuals don't dig the splatter-comedy genre anymore. Only when something like Shaun of the Dead rears it's magical noggin do the rest of the horror-comedy cats feel free to come out of the woodwork (and the fat cats will let 'em too as long as they plaster a 'funniest horror since
etc. on the poster). Even then, as we're getting all juicy with anticipation of a revolution, we're force fed diluted, p**s poor versions of what we've already seen years ago, e.g. Slither, or as I like to call it: The Deadly Spawn sans verve. What happened to movies like Braindead, Bad Taste and Evil Dead II. These films where innovative and hilarious and are still remembered with a love sick fondness. So who knows maybe once they've made Saw X and we're all bored of greasy haired, well dwelling, goth chicks, who all seem to walk in jerky sped up bursts (Scary? Erm
nope), someone might break free, stop trying to shock us and give us all a good old f**king belly laugh - but until then if you are like minded and have dug my pitch, watch Street Trash: It's mental, it's sick as hell and most of all it's just a good old offencive giggle.
The Deadly Spawn (1983)
A gory gem straight from the heart.
I'll keep it short and sweet. If you like your horror with a big fat daddy budget, this ain't for you. there's no CGI, There's no a-grade actors, there's no intense orchestral score by Danny Elfman. So, now, for the rest of you that are left - this movie is great. It has the same elements that made Peter Jacksons "Braindead" and "Bad Taste" so good, heart. the people who made this film obviously loved what they where doing and managed to pull off some great special effects and gore whilst doing so. i wish this film had another equally low-budget follow-up because the creatures are really great and after watching it you can almost smell all those 80's creature features looming round the corner. I would be very shocked if the people who made critters hadn't watched this first. So i recommend this anyone who likes mad little flesh eating beasties and lots and lots (and i do mean lots) of gore.
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
A Refreshing Slap in the Funny Gland!
A man, A blue screen, An old 70's Kung Fu Flick and a few computer special effects. That's the basic concoction for this weird little movie. Steve Oedekerk the guy behind Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls amongst other things, has superimposed himself into the above mentioned 70's kung fu flick as the chosen one, an orphan on a mission to find and destroy his Parents killer - Master Pain (or Betty as he likes to be called). It may be daft, it may be ridiculous but if you put your brain on the seat next to you and set your mouth to laughter mode then you will love this - however if you are prone to taking your movies a little too seriously then forget it. Watch it now and add a little Kung Pow style joy to your life!!
