The Midnight Sky (2020)
One of the most underrated Netflix series.
I am really sorry, this movie is so underrated. First of all - I think - this is caused by it's trailer. It's making you think, this is going to be a Sci-Fi movie, which it isn't and probably because of it, it attracts the "wrong" type of audience, expecting to see aliens, starships and time-travels.
This movie is a drama and George Clooney's acting is great. He was very good and showing himself as an old, sick, weak dying man with no hope. I think it was his great performance, considering how he used to play all these sexy-handsome-smart-ass roles he used to be put in.
He did a great job really and his hopeless fighting with fear in eyes is amazing.
There's a lot of symbols in this movie, some scenes are unreal.... hell... even one person may be not actually who she appears to be - or even existing!
Many people take this movie too straightway.
This movie is about a struggle of a single man, translated to a struggle of a mankind. It doesn't leave you with a simple answer, with solution, with closure... because this is a though of the way people are going by right now.
Open question at the end is supposed to make YOU think, how this will end.
I hate, how people dislike movies without closure, while they're supposed to make YOU seek for answers on your own!
Four Eyed Monsters (2005)
Pretty creative!.... but still.... BORING!
What brought my attention to this movie, honestly? I read it got "some awards". I told to myself it's going to be good most probably... But it wasn't. Sorry.
I liked creativity in expressing of authors feelings (I mean it in using media, photos, drawings, etc. way). They told their story in an interesting way (that deserves some stars). They indeed had few interesting ideas. But... This story... it is, what every single teenager and growing-up person in the World goes through... and it's not interesting to anyone around, except a person who is in it! We all have those moments in life and once you're older - you smile at them, because you know it was just an "imaginary-pubertal-hormonal-bullshit" plus "wanting to get laid" (especially 1st part of a movie) and "feeling lonely in society".
Now, you may say. "Yes! but this is life! and this movie is about life!" but, please, remember about one thing: we're having now "internets" and millions of youngsters are expressing themselves online in a very similar way: you need to do much more to be original with your "arts" and self-expression.
It's also too long! It may be a tribute to your love, but a spectator doesn't necessary want to see your faces from many different angles for 40 minutes (each).
After a while I was more annoyed with personalities of those two, rather than interested, how it will follow. Truly a "four eyed monster" it was...
I would love to see instead a movie from an author, who has reach personality, uses it to do interesting, useful things in life... and shares great - maybe even Utopian - ideas. An "art for an art" itself is not working anymore...
P.S. American way of expressing feelings on every possible occasion is so annoying! You guys can talk for 30 minutes about a fact that you're nervous, because you have to visit a dentist. OMG!!!
P.P.S. Oh, one more thing: perhaps I am just a bit allergic lately when I see a picture about people, who tell a story (document?) ONLY about themselves: "me, me, me, me, me... I am... I would like... I wish for myself this and that...I, I, I..." Blehhh.....
Mamma Mia! (2008)
"Mamma mia! - what a disaster!"
American emancipated moms daughter gets married. Daughter never knew her dad because her mom - as she wrote in her diary - was sleeping with three different men at the same time. Daughter invites all three men for wedding to find real dad. All men appearing together gets mom depressed. All three dads want to leave but daughter gets them back. Then every "dad" thinks he's the real one so daughter gets confused... she doesn't know what to do and has fight with mom. Everything gets bad, everyone screams on everyone... so finally it can get (no surprises here) repaired and finish with a sweet, pink, yahoo happy-end.
(1.) This is typical housewives movie. Quite pointless.
(2.) Jokes have level similar to Teletubbies. Not funny at all.
(3.) Most actors should continue with being actors and leave singing to professionals (especially "Mr. James Bond"). I mean... I almost started to hate ABBA!!! Luckilly I reminded myself that "real ABBA" is actually still good. Now I have just concentrate on healing my ears...
(4.) Movie is basing on some falling stars, but that is not enough to make super-production nowadays.
(5.) Is it a poor copy of "Around the Universe" - MUCH better musical from 2007, based on "The Beatles" songs?
(6.) You have feeling like actors were trying to sing as much ABBA songs as possible in shortest time. Songs are coming one after another and there is no time to tell any reasonable story... Perhaps director should make 3 hours and tell us something more?
I gave two stars only because it didn't kill me. Total waste of time.
