Fauda (2015–2022)
9/10
Changed my views on the conflict
9 July 2018
I am American. I am biased.

With that out of the way, I wanted to... no, felt that I HAD to write a review about Fauda. Being completely honest with myself, I can't review this show based on "realism" or the whether the portrayal of ideological differences are genuine or not; I'm not exposed to that on a daily basis like those in the Middle East are. What I can review is how this show changed my mind and opinion about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how it made me feel.

I went into this viewing with a prideful appreciation of Israel (I still have one) and expected to see an action-packed thriller about undercover operations. You do get that, don't get me wrong, but that's not the point of the show. What you get from this show is a very poignant lesson about the physical, emotional, spiritual, and ideological toll that is felt in the battle that this show is portraying. You get the sense that what you are viewing is real. The writers do a masterful job of convincing you to sympathize with even the most unwavering of Hamas supporters and warriors and with the Israelis tasked with hunting them down. You get a front row seat to the endless killing that is carried out by both sides for reasons that are not even clear to the triggermen. "An eye for an eye", to what end? There is no Hollywood romance sideplots, no flashy explosions or high speed car chases through oncoming traffic, only death and despair.

This show has been incredibly difficult for me to describe to my friends and family, and I can only tell them what it's about and why I believe it's not a biased depiction of the real war going on. But I can't describe how you feel watching this show. It's profound and eye opening. All I know is that we're all human, we all mourn the same way.

The Town (2010)
7/10
Not "Gone Baby Gone".
23 September 2010
I went into this movie with very high expectations and sadly they were not met. The movie was surely thrilling, entertaining, and even comedic at times, but Affleck advertised and picked the wrong details to accent throughout the movie. In commercials they portrayed Claire to be psychological torn because of the incident, which would have made a fantastic story to run with after the two of them got together. Or at least, that is how commercials portrayed, this is what I was hoping. Something deeper, something more than just the thrill of an action movie, something like Gone Baby Gone, which is Affleck's most recent notable work, in my opinion. But there was none, The Town was a simple bank robbery thriller with a shallow, not nearly elaborated enough love story and an empty psychological thriller pathway. If you want to see something suspenseful and entertaining, sure, go see The Town. If you were looking something for a little bit more than that, may want to wait for something else.

Avatar (2009)
10/10
Wow
30 December 2009
Let's begin with the story. Many people I have heard are complaining about how the story lacks depth, how it is unoriginal, and even copies the ideas of other movies that were made after the story of Avatar was created 12 years ago. To say that a movie does not have an original plot is an easy argument in the film business today, if you take how many movies we have now I'm sure you could find one that fits with every other one. This is beyond the point. The story of Avatar was to show a crisp example of the greed driven brutality of the human race, which is becoming a more popular topic in video today. Often in films today you see a lot of gore, sexual humor, sex, or drug use to depict a writer's point. None of this can be found in Avatar. This movie took a plot concept that so many other movies have been attempting to use, stripped it of all popular techniques of the culture today, and made it into a beautiful film.

So, what made the movie as good as it was? The VISUALS. Certain scenes in this movie that show the nature of Pandora will literally bring you to tears. I am finding it hard to understand why this factor is being overlooked in reviews when in reality it is the driving force as to why this movie is so amazing. The point of a film is to put the viewer in a situation that is otherwise hard to imagine, correct? Every single person upon leaving the theater, including the people I went with were dreaming of living as an Avatar in the world of Pandora, as the main character was in the movie as well. This movie took every detail of the terrain, and lit it up with fireworks, creating the most spectacular case of eye candy you will ever experience.

After watching this movie, you will not have goosebumps and your blood will not be racing because of copious amounts of action as it would be in Transformers or such. Your jaw will be dropped and your imagination will be on a roller coaster ride through your own vision of Pandora.

My final advice to you, pay the extra 5$ and see this movie in Imax 3D, trust me.

Terrible Movie
8 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
1. Why would Amy's husband throw her in the water knowing that she is terrified of it, without her permission? Could you be any more of an a****** to the one you love. 2. His little joke throws them all into a humorous situation, where they forgot to put the ladder down. 3. Why isn't there an alternate way to get up on the boat?(in the event that the crew forgets to put the ladder down) 4. For any sensible human being who is watching this movie, I'm sure numerous ideas went into their head when the 6 kids noticed they were stuck. I know I did, how about the two guys lift a girl up and throw her up to attempt to grab a bar and climb up? Or, use the knife as a standing device to climb up? OR, take off their clothes (like they did) and use anything they can to make a rope (including the flag they ripped down). 5. When they attempt to climb up the flag, you cannot believe that it would rip that fast or that easily. 6. When their friends call to sing happy birthday, why were they lightly saying their name, instead of yelling it? Or screaming help, my god, anything but what they did. 7. The girl says she's going to try to swim to shore. Lol? Are you kidding? You're in the middle of the f****** ocean, after you just treaded water for a couple hours. No way she's going to make it to shore. 8. The guy later in the movies says he's going to find the knife. I actually laughed at this comment. IT'S AT THE BOTTOM OF THE F****** OCEAN BY NOW YOU IDIOT! Oh my god, what were they thinking with this idea. 9. The ending. What the f***? It made absolutely no sense.

For all the people sitting here saying, "oh well, people don't think fast in these types of situations". What type of situation? They decided to take a dip in the water, forgot the ladder. I would have thought instantly about how to get back up on the boat. When you're stuck off your boat, you don't start thinking about drowning and dieing.

If you're thinking about watching this movie, don't. It's a waste of time. I'll admit it kept me watching until the end, only because I was waiting for the sharks to come. I found it quite ridiculous how when the guy gets stabbed, and bleeds A lot, that no sharks are even a couple miles around, because.. that's how far sharks can smell blood.

This movie was so bad it actually ticked me off by the time I was done watching it. Save yourself the pain, and stay away from this movie.
