Charmed Robbery (2006)
charming film
This short film is aptly named, it's a charmingly, heart warmingly, subtle blend of comedy, and drama.
Typical of Jacqui Schulz's direction and Greg Water's scripting, it shows a great understanding of relationships and of life.
Though its only 5 minutes long, it builds up an incredible bond between the viewer and the characters, a kind of shared experience. It may just been where i was in my own life, but i felt real understanding of the characters.
I'd love to see a feature length movie from this team, if they can make me feel the way they make me feel in t5 minutes, what could they do in an hour.
I believe that the idea was based on a real life situation, that happened in France, and possibly could only happen in France.
Somethings are worth more than money, and one is love.
Clutch (2003)
lovably light
This is a simple short story, that once again show the brilliance of Jackie Schulz and Greg Waters story telling.
Their ability to infuse their characters with charm and the to bring sweetness , subtlety and laughter to their plots, is captivating.
As a story this film is a snap shot of our age, of single parents and complex life's, all of which it deftly deals with in the most endearing way, within the confines of a single room.
I don't know if its the story, or the story telling, or the lighting of the pace, or the characters or the comedy, but i found this film strangely calming and i don't thing ill easily tire of it.
I never thought a spanner size could make me smile - i was wrong!
The Uncertainty Principle (2007)
sublimely subtle
I Love this short film. It's a captivating story, eloquently told and beautifully produced. A joy to watch.
Jackie Schulz and Greg Waters have work together before to produce some truly charming short films. This film is no exception.
The understated approach to story telling, and attention to the little things, shows a real understanding of human interaction, allowing them to interweave moving drama, with fascinating characters and wonderful heart warming comedy moments.
Right from the opening opening titles, your brain is racing ahead making all sorts of assumptions about who these characters are and where the stories taking them, but at every turn your forced to re-evaluate your feelings, in a roller coaster of emotion. Its genius at all levels.
