The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985)
Beware all living mortals of a classic
The Scooby Doo franchise went through a lot of changes over the years and IMO only really went downhill as of late, and the 13 Ghosts clearly was not one of them. This is truly one of the short-lived greats of it's time.
Considering this is a typical Hanna Barbera affair everyone coming in should know what to expect, limited animation, great voices, and jokes that never get old.
The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo takes a new twist on the Scooby franchise by introducing a demon chest, although the show is entitled the 13 ghosts, out of the 11 featured characters, the word demons seems more appropriate than ghosts, but the show clearly uses the words interchangeably. And while previous incarnations of Scooby featured real monsters, for the first time the monsters are real and also an actual threat to the world.
The demons themselves vary and even though we only saw 11 of the 13, several of the ones shown were amazingly great. Maldor the Malevalent's magic spells and lines are easily memorable. Demondo leader of the comics, Nicara the enchantress and Professor Phantasmo who's calliope that disguises an army full on monsters, monsters, monsters!! are all present and great, even down to Time Slime the lord of time, who manages to lead the take over the entire world when Scooby retires.
The gang itself is changed for this incarnation. Scooby and Shaggy clearly return, as do Daphne and Scrappy who were present in the previous incarnation. We also see the addition of the con-man child Film Flam and the epic Vincent Van Ghoul (voiced by the amazing Vincent Price) as the gang's overseer on this quest. The show also has recurring hilarious ghosts in Bogel and Weerd.
This is a show that sadly was never completed, but it was a great memory. I can quote so much of this show from memory and it's a true great series you can watch all in one day and role with the laughter. I recommend this great show to anyone to enjoy
Yogi's Gang (1973)
A True Classic that i hope comes to DVD soon
As a character creator myself there is nothing more exciting then seeing many characters come together and in this first instance from Hanna Barbera they show how to get it right.
Yogi's Gang is a typical Hanna Barbera affair, you know what you should be expecting. Limited Animation, Great Voices and expected jokes that never get old or unfunny In this show which laid groundwork for future HB shows of collecting characters together but here Yogi and a whole group of characters from the early years shorts come together in a flying ark to find a better place to live. (a shortened premise from the movie, which became parts to end the series) Along the way the gang come up against greatly created villains that represent the problems of man. Many of which who even though they maintain one appearance in history, have become easily memorable. Whether Peter the Cheater's epic line after being cheated himself, or the hilarious ramblings of The Sheik of Selfishness, or one of my favorites Mr. Hothead who blew his stack literally.
This show brought it's classic characters with the comedy and managed to educate youth like myself on some of the problems plaguing society. And maybe more importantly, it never gets old, i can still dig up my VHS tape and watch these cartoons over and over.
This cartoon is truly one of my favorite cartoons of all time and please let it see a DVD release soon
Knock Knock (2007)
Don't Give up on this, it is worth it
Knock Knock is a film that needs a chance. This is what is obviously going to earn hate. This movie seems confusing and according to other views, people don't really understand what is clearly put out there. This slasher focuses on a very dark origin for it's killer. The origin is sad and you feel sorry for him, which is a good thing.
The lead of this film is not any kid, okay, it's pretty damn obvious the lead is the Killer or if not the cop. The Kids are just the kills that the killer comes back to do.
Now when I watched this movie, I was confused at first and thought about turning it off, but please stick with it, as all the confusion fades and you get a crystal clear picture of why everything happens like it does.
If you like movies souly for senseless kills, then I suggest you go find some other (horrible) horror film then. This is a film you have to think to understand, and a movie that doesn't make you think isn't worth anything.
Rottweiler (2004)
This is what low budget films should be
Rottweiler is a great movie that a lot of people just can't seem to appreciate for it's feel. It is a movie piece and not just bland horror. The film follows a prisoner who has escaped and must find his lost lover. He is also being chased by a rottweiler who is essentially a cyborg. As we go further on we get glimpses into the past. The movie puts out a lot of odd stuff, that while people who don't like to think with there movies will find it boring, people should be drawn in by just where is this going. In the end we get even more confused by what happens when Dante reaches the town and then comes the big reveal as to what exactly happened to get us to where we are. The reveal makes the movie all come together and comes together as a piece. Great movie and I would recommend it to people who really want something good.
If you want some gory disgrace of a horror film, not here If you want something mainstream box office style, not here If you want a good piece to sit down and watch (maybe a few times) then here it is, see Rottweiler.
Vipers (2008)
Great B-Movie
This was my sixth title I have viewed from the Maneater series. I wasn't expecting much at all except a way to waste a Sunday morning. However I was shocked. I was expecting them to use National Geographic footage of vipers lunging at people, but instead found a cool movie that I really enjoyed.
Now some people just can't appreciate b-movies simply because they seem to actually care for the mainstream stuff and don't even want to give such stuff as Vipers a chance. If you want something award worthy your in the wrong place.
However this is a fun little movie, I was into the characters and I'll say it's the best title I've seen from the Maneater series overall.
