Wonka (2023)
Boring! Did not hold a candle to the Gene Wilder version...
....nor for that matter to the Johnny Depp version. It was boring. The songs were boring, it was a dreary and unimaginative snooze fest. I couldn't even finish watching it. Nothing seemed to work. There was no magical dreamy sequences and no character development. The characters were just pushed into the story and didn't fit. The only one character that did fit was the Oompa Loompa but Hugh Grant had less than 3 minutes total screen time. I stopped watching about 30 minutes in and it was hard to hang on that long....skipped to the end. I buy all these on high end produced musicals but I'll be skipping this one, as just the thought of trying to watch it again seems tortuous. Hard pass.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
JUST WATCH IT....it will open your eyes!
Amazing, amazing, amazing......I don't normally go for sea based documentaries...but this one is DIFFERENT! Opened my eyes to so many things about the sea and its creatures. The intelligence of these creatures leaves humans in the dust. Sure they don't make iphones, but they don't need to.....they are so adaptable and so curious and just amazing...I'm literally having trouble describing how great this story is. So touching the trust developed between the filmmaker and this wonderful octopus. Points out truly that we are missing out on understanding out place in this world as humans. I loved it. I cried. I feel joy for having watched it. Do yourself and your family a favor and watch it. It will blow your mind and it will open your eyes.
Crowded (2016)
Eh, nothing to write home about...
I loved Patrick Wharburton in Rules of Engagement who had much better actors to play off him, but he is always the same character - even in this show...which is OK, but the rest of the cast does not look like they gel together. I've tried to watch it a few times since it debuted but I find it boring. I just leave it on so I won't miss Dateline. Story lines that are predictable and a laugh track that reminds me of the 70s and 80s sitcoms. Carrie Preston is not a good match for Wharburton, as they don't look like they would be together. And I find it difficult to think of her as this psychotherapist when I still see her as Arlene from True Blood. The daughters characters are self absorbed and seem to have no direction at all, while the Stacey Keach as the grandfather is cool, its not enough to carry the show. The writing is lack luster as mentioned with predictable story lines, 1 dimensional characters and no thought as to how these actors would blend as a family and pull it off. NOT!
