Fourteen (2006)
excellent film
I was lucky enough to see this at SXSW 2006 and it was an incredibly moving film. Few shorts can gather the audience's attention, especially those under 10 minutes. To do it so drastically with essentially no sound is even more rare. I hate that after festivals nearly all shorts die except for the exception that get picked up by IFC and the obscure chance that you happen upon those selected few. Please post this short on a website somewhere.
Hopefully one day we'll get a chance to buy these for a couple of bucks off iTunes. Then we benefit as well as the filmmakers who shell out their hard earned cash. Or festivals could sell compilation DVD's of the best shorts. Who wouldn't want to buy that? It surly would help these artists raise money for their next projects.
I Love Your Work (2003)
Amazing movie you must see!!! Goldberg is brilliant
I was one of the lucky ones to see this movie at the South by Southwest Film Festival. I was completely into this movie after the first 5 minutes. It's easy to say the cast is amazing but there's so much more. The whole look of the film is amazing. I loved the music in the film and was shocked that Adam had written that too. I heard some say that they didn't like it because it was too confusing. If you need every part of a movie spelled out for you then this isn't for you. I love having a movie where I have my own personal interpretation of it. After the movie we went to have a drink where I ran into Adam and Christina and I have to say they seem like two of the nicest people. We should be so lucky if Adam continues to write and direct.
Roger Dodger (2002)
Best dialogue in years!
I saw this movie at the Austin Film Festival and I was extremely impressed by first timer Dylan Kidd. Though I was thrown around a bit by the massive amount of hand held camera work, the dialogue of this movie holds the audience's attention in check. Dylan was there along with Elizabeth Berkley and he did comment that the overuse of hand held shots was to create the feeling that you were chasing Roger through the scenes and having to concentrate on his view of the world instead of the surroundings. I loved that he didn't establish master shots. He hopes the audience is smart enough to know that by the ambience that they are in a bar or restaurant. This allows for the movie to never slow.
The performances are great as well. Jesse Eisenberg is going to be a huge star no doubt. He is also in The Emperor's Club which was at the Festival too. The music used in the movie is really fresh and really added to the scene transitions.
The only problem I had with the movie was the end shots that were extremely dark. Was this a mistake?
I do disagree with other comments about the end. It was great!
