Good ,but not great, Audie Murphy western.
21 February 2008
Although this movie was made in Europe with a predominately Spanish cast, you can tell this movie was made with stateside distribution in mind.Especially when you have Audie Murphy and Broderick Crawford in the leading roles.Good story about a fugitive who crosses back into the United States from Mexico to avenge his brother's death and clear his own name. This movie was directed by one of my favorite western directors, Lesley Selander. It has great widescreen photography. The dubbing of the supporting actors is better than usual.Far from original, but fast moving and well acted. Not as good as "No Name On The Bullet" or "Night Passage", but worth a look.

James Garner as you've never seen him before!

If nothing else can be said about it, A Man Called Sledge is a slightly above average spaghetti western. It boasts James Garner, playing against type, as Luther Sledge, a brutal robber who gets involved in a plot to steal a shipment of gold stored in a prison. It's a departure from his usual easygoing roles and he gets good support from TV western stars Dennis Weaver,Claude Akins, and Wayde Preston. It's also directed by veteran TV actor, Vic Morrow. It's okay, overall, and worth a look the next time it comes on TV.

Day of Anger (1967)
Good Movie!Three Stars!
26 October 2002
The first time I saw this western was on a triple bill with a Bruce Lee film and a Charles Bronson western. It holds it's own against any of the non-Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns that made their way stateside. Lee Van Cleef's Talby is as chilling as his Angel Eyes in The Good,The Bad, and The Ugly and Giuliano Gemma shows why he was once one of Italy's top stars. Beware, that there is a 85 minute version in circulation that is choppy. The original version that was shown here at 109 minutes is recommended.
