Per un pugno di dollari (1964)
The start of a new era in film-making
This film is by no means the best in the series, which is more of a compliment to the filmmaker than anything. Unlike most movie franchises where each sequel gets worse and worse, each sequel in the Dollars trilogy got better and better.
While "A Fistful of Dollars" is by no means the epic masterpiece of the later installment "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" it is still very fine and innovative work. Gone is the traditional story of the good cowboy versus the bad cowboy and in is a dark and gritty look at hatred and greed and the uncomplicated men who settled the United States. The Man With No Name shoots first and asks questions later. He doesn't look for a peaceful solution, he just shoots anyone in his way. It was not only this new type of character whom made this film so fascinated but Sergio Leone's camera-work and a bizarre score by Ennio Morricone. However, if you really don't care about all that technical junk but just want a good action film, then there is plenty of that. Bloody at times, gritty, dark, and fun. If you don't mind a few technical goofs and surrealism, then your in for a treat.
The Hazing (1977)
Just plain bad. Not even in a fun way.
There is not a speck of entertainment in this entire film. There's not one scary, funny, or even interesting scene in this film. It advertises itself as a horror, then goes on to call itself a comedy. It doesn't even ATTEMPT humor. Neither does it attempt to be scary.
In order to not be bored by this film, you would have to be one of the most easily entertained people on earth. If you like this movie even a LITTLE BIT than you have no standard for what you watch at all. I'm having a very difficult time trying to understand what the filmmakers were trying to accomplish with this. Its not funny, scary, shocking, or intriguing. So was it supposed to be a drama? Because it really wasn't dramatic either.
Please just do yourself a favor and don't watch this film. Life is too precious to be wasting 90 minutes of it watching this.
Friday the 13th (2009)
The best installment in the series
Many remakes of horror classics never seem to be as good as the original. And that is mostly due to a different style of the new horror films, relying on gore instead of suspense. But unlike many horror classics, Friday the 13th was never a great film to begin with. But there were three things that kept us seeing each of the Friday the 13th films: naked teenagers, Jason, and creative murders. All of which there are plenty of in this flick.
Many critics have criticized this movie for being "cynical," and because most of the teenagers are so scummy. However, I personally thought that made the film much better. It made their deaths much more glorious. In all honesty, what horror fan has ever watched a Friday the 13th film and said "please don't let Jason kill that character" without the words "before she gets naked" at the end of the sentence? Not very many I would imagine.
Hitman (2007)
All in all a bad movie.
The film simply stunk. All of the action is numbingly un-thrilling, and un-entertaining. The acting is beyond bad, which although the point of these types of films may not involve good acting, I just wanted to punch the lead character in the face. There was one good line, and one good nude scene in the entire film. So I give each of those a star, and nothing else.
Fans of the video game will most likely be watching the film, and wish they were in the action rather than watching it. I'm appalled at some of the ratings certain films get on IMDb. But I suppose thats the internet for ya. Lowest common denominator rules.
Good Luck Chuck (2007)
This is the only movie I've ever walked out on
and is one of the few movies I only give one start to. Now I only got about 45 minutes into before I walked out, but there could've been absolutely no way the film could've redeemed itself. I understand this movie was supposed to be stupid, but it was so stupid that it turned out to be excruciatingly boring. And I'm no hater of stupid movies either! I loved Jackass number two, Borat, the Simpsons, hell I even like Kevin Smith films! And I know this has been overstated already, but the sex in it was just too much for a supposed "non pornographic" movie. The jokes were completely forced, unfunny, and unclever. I could not lower my intelligence enough to enjoy this movie (and trust me, it wasn't that high in the first place.) Never have I heard anyone CLOSE to intelligent say anything positive about it...only an extremely ditsy bimbo of a cheerleader in high school, and 14 year old thought it was funny.
I'm not gonna say "its the worse movie ever" like so many other morons put, because I have not seen every movie ever made, but I will say it is easily one of the worst films I've ever seen. The fact that this film averages 5 point something stars on this website is just a clear indicator that people's opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt. Mine included, but not on this film.
