Private Practice (2007–2013)

Private Practice time factor
31 October 2007
It gets much, much better with time. Lame cliché, but true. Why is that? you may ask, well, first because it's getting a distance from GA. It's technically a spin off, but it's truly not. It's a brand new show with a character that USED TO BE on GA. Huge difference. Which, unfortunately, made the pilot/episode of GA almost un-watchable. It was really bad because we got a bunch of new characters tossed at us in two hours with a: this is the new show, like it! Almost impossible in those circumstances seeing as they are extremely different shows. So the first episode on it's own made me go: huh! better than I remembered. So distance: good.

Secondly, the characters are getting more interesting. Not only are the actors obviously... getting to know who their characters are, but so am I. Violet is getting past the stalking thing. She now has a personality that doesn't involve stalking Allan (big plus). Cooper is getting over having sex with women of dubious nature and becoming a very caring character who wear wings to discover the source of little girls illness (major plus). Dell is passed the surfer dude stage, gotta love the happy pap! And so on. I'm not sure I'll ever get to like Charlotte though I do have to say that the urge to hit her over the head with a large stick has mostly passed... So, they are getting past their starting point and I like that.

Thirdly, and final point, the writing is better. It's directly relating to second point, and the story line are interesting. They do only have two patients an episode, so not a whole lot of medicine, most of the time not even Addison's, but it doesn't matter cause they are good story lines. And they are getting explored now. They use more of their potential and that's very nice. It seriously makes for an enjoyable watch. Give it another chance, you might actually be surprised at what you'll find.

Powers (2004)
Excellent!
20 April 2004
Powers is an excellent kids drama that appeals to kids and grown-ups alike. The story revolves around the four leads but mostly around the two teenager: Mark(Who can read minds and make objects move) and Song Li(Who reads feelings and have visions when she touches objects that contain an emotion. In proper frame of feelings, she can also move things with her mind.) To help them are Professor Henry Powers who's a straight, no non-sense (!) paranormal researcher! And Dr. Mary Holland, who was the professor first subject and is now precious help in his investigation.

Using the kids abilities, they research unexplained phenomenons that ranges as wide as spirits, dreams, aliens, time loops, etc. The stories are well crafted and the special effects are well done without being over the top and drowning the story. The characters are also well defined and real. The actors were extremely well chosen for they can act the drama as well as the comical without any tress at all. They always make it believable even if sometimes the story might seems not quite as good as it could be.

The only point that would be bad about it is the 25 minutes running time. It's way too short to explore the potential of the story. On some stories, the characters have to make some incredible leap of logic to solve the problem. But considering it's a kids show, I do realize that a longer running time would allow their mind to wander and channel search: NOT what we want!

All in all Powers is a very good show and I can't wait for series two. (There as to be one!) Special mention to Mandana Jones, who portrays Mary Holland with the talent we know she has and she is fantastic in her mother hen role! And beautiful as always! great to see her back regularly on tv!

Amazing!
17 January 2003
I will admit right now that I worship the ground Trisha Yearwood walks on, so it's no wonder that this review will be positive. But in all honesty, Trisha is a magical performer and it shows in this video concert although she wasn't ease relaxed on stage as she is now. The varied song selection is a delight and Trisha's voice is poised perfect and at the best at the time, for she keeps getting better and better. She was funny between songs and the little bits of interview shows a very sensitive person with a great heart. As for the performance itself... Well, she was past the 'singing stick' :) stage, but she wasn't quite the entertainer she is now. It's a must see or a must have (If you can find it) for every Trisha fan, and all country fans for she is the best!

Gillian Anderson is magnificent, a shame the movie is not that great.
17 January 2003
I rented to movie for the sole reason that Gillian Anderson was the lead actress. As usual, she was mazing, but I doubt she could be any less than that, so.. But it's worth being watched for her performance only. The supporting actors also give credible interpretation, but she carries the movie on her own. The movie was rather enjoyable when you're in the right frame of mind, but what killed me is my understanding of the movie. Some might called it simplistic and so called intellectuals who see stuff that really isn't there in movie are going to be offended, but the only reason we watch the two year downfall of Lily Bart is because she was to stuck in the high society's conventions to admit to Lawrence Selden that she was in love with him and he's too chickens*** to admit the same. As I said, it look simplistic and very first degree to everyone, but it doesn't make it any less true. Had she been a tad bolder in their talk in the Garden and asked him if he was interested in a 'jeune fille à marrier' (Interesting accent there! :) ) she, and we, wouldn't have waited until she had passed away to hear him FINALLY admit that he loved her! And dad he been less frighten, he wouldn't have waited two years to tell her. But when you pass that minor (!) point, it is enjoyable, but not one of the best movie I've seen.

One of the best
16 December 2002
That movie is, by far, one of my favorites. I think it's smart and NOT on the cheesy side of things. It's really nice for a change not to see a teenager romance movie. I love how it all comes together, although I was to taken in the story at first to pick up the hints that were dropped all through the movie. The high number of high profile actors is a testimony to the quality of the film and it's worth being watched for Gillian Anderson's performance alone, she rocks! In short, it's an awesome movie I've been trying to get everyone to watch.
