Roadkill (2024)
A Gripping Ride Through Revenge and Redemption
"Roadkill" isn't your average Hollywood blockbuster, and that's exactly what makes it such a thrilling ride. Buckle up for a white-knuckled journey fueled by vengeance, unexpected twists, and characters that stay with you long after the credits roll.
Caitlin Carmichael is phenomenal as The Driver, a woman on a mission shrouded in mystery. Her steely resolve and raw emotion are captivating, perfectly balanced by Ryan Knudson's portrayal of The Hitchhiker. Their dynamic is a highlight, shifting from wary strangers to reluctant allies as they navigate a dangerous path.
While the plot might borrow elements from classic thrillers, it keeps you guessing with its unpredictable turns. Writer-director Warren Fast knows how to build suspense, and the film's neo-noir aesthetic adds a layer of gritty charm. Don't expect a squeaky-clean Hollywood ending - "Roadkill" explores the complexities of human nature, leaving you pondering the blurred lines between vengeance and redemption.
Yes, there might be moments where the dialogue feels a touch B-movie-esque, but it somehow adds to the film's overall charm. This isn't a film aiming for highbrow awards; it's pure, unadulterated entertainment with a surprising emotional punch.
If you're looking for a film that delivers pulse-pounding action, complex characters, and a story that lingers, then "Roadkill" is definitely worth a watch. Just grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and prepare to be surprised.
Gravity (2013)
Lost in it's own hype
If a movie has ground breaking special effects then so what, who cares. If you want that then jump go jump on a roll a coaster and leave your mind in candy floss machine. Gravity is just that 'candy floss' and equally as vacuous and unnutritious. Junk food in space with extra cheese in the form of 'in the womb' metaphors as well as the usual Hollywood nonsense of our America saves the world again. How how everything would be so much easier if everything was in English and those pesky Chinese and Russians did not write their own language on all those colourful buttons.
This movie is a stinker, unrealistic and smells of nationalism. Avoid and poke yourself in the eye instead.
