The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Good but dragged on way too much...
When I first entered the theatre to see this movie I was expecting this to be the greatest action film of the year. But, I was disappointed.
**Spoilers Ahead**Spoiler Alert** Spoilers Ahead**
I guess what I was dissappointed the most in the movie was the action scenes:
1) Too much bullet time. It was overused and it made the action scenes longer than they should have been.
2) Why does Neo HAVE to strike a pose every time he is about to fly? If anything they were a waste of time and money for the extra effects added in.
3) Why does it seem like every action film these days require the hero to know kung fu nowadays? It's being used way too much and quite frankly I'm sick of it.
4) Like I said before, they were just too long and pointless ie. If Neo could fly anytime he wanted why didn't he just fly away when all the agents came after him? Instead he just sat there and fought them all making that particular fight scene a lot longer than necessary.
5) I want fight scenes that are pure slugfests not ballet like.
Other things that annoyed me:
1) The fashion in the movie really annoyed me. Neo looked like a fairy prancing around in that trench coat. He didn't look intimidating at all. If I saw someone dressed like that in the streets I'd sooner laugh at him than fear him. It's like everything is so elegant these days why can't we just have good guy that just looks bad ### with that 'don't mess with me' demeanor?
2) More relating to #1 and the gripe with the action scenes. We need heroes that are just willing to brawl and not afraid of getting their clothes dirty and ripped.
3) Trinity not dying was very lame. As a matter of fact when Neo was holding her in his arms I was actually laughing because I so wanted Neo to get p***ed and fly into space and make the world spin backwards to reverse time like Christopher Reeve did in Superman. Even that would have been a lot cooler than reaching into her, taking out the bullet, and then 'magically' healing her.
4) Morpheus' speech in Zion was lame... Bill Pullman made it sound better when he said it in ID4.
5) They tried to make the movie intelligent with the writing but all it did was made the movie unnecessarily longer.
6) The end of the love scene was very disturbing.
7) The rave scene was unnecessary.
** End Spoiler**
Keep in mind the gripes listed above are purely personal. Regardless of the faults mentioned above the movie was still enjoyable. I did like that chase scene minus the Morpheus and Agent fight. Monica Bellucci looked amazing and the French Guy was cool (he would have been cooler if they cut down his dialogue a bit. It just dragged on too long in the restaurant). Definitely see it if you have the time but don't go in expecting it to be great.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Awesome
Being an action freak I must say this movie is awesome. The action was fast paced and never dragged on for too long like Reloaded. You get the introduction of the characters in the first 10 minutes and from then on the movie kicks into high gear with gun battles and car chases with small breaks in between to develop the story. Oh, and by the way, the story was pretty good too with a little twist at the end. When I go into a movie I don't nitpick- I just want to have a good time. Only fairies nitpick.... If you want a movie that has loads of action with a decent story at the same time then this is it. Never a dull moment in the movie. This one definitely has my vote for the best action movie of the year.
Le pacte des loups (2001)
A little of everything....
I was very fortunate enough to see this movie in the theatres twice. The storyline was great because it managed to fuse in horror, action, and romance all at the same time. The fight scenes were excellent. The acting was great. The storyline was fun. And the cinematography was well done. Try to get a hold of the canadian version on DVD. It's a 3 disc set instead of the cheesy american one disc set AND it also has a better cover. If you're in the mood for a horror film mixed with action and romance this is definitely for you.
Price of Glory (2000)
Dramatic family film.
I was lucky enough to catch this in the theatres twice. It's a great boxing film that not only deals with the glamours of boxing but also with the dark business side of it. When it was first released it was underrated and poorly promoted. Definitely worth a rental. Touching storyline and great action sequences.
Army of Darkness (1992)
Greatest Movie In The History Of The Universe.....
An Army of Darkness in the 14th century gets owned by a guy from the present with a chainsaw and shotgun..... Hilarious premise, hilarious characters, and hilarious lines...... what more could you ask for? Only problem is there are so many versions out which one is the one to watch? First time viewers should definitely go with the theatrical release but a long time fan should go with the 'official bootleg version'. Love it or hate it every movie person should see this at least once.
Equilibrium (2002)
Thankful for having an opportunity to see this great movie!
I loved this movie. It was a great movie with AMAZING action sequences and an EXCELLENT storyline. It is one of the very few movies that executes both elements smoothly. I won't go into details of the story because everybody else pretty much sums it up very well but the action sequences are truly original. In the movie I believe they called it 'gun kata'. Well whatever it is, I have never seen anything like it before. It's sort of a mixture of kung fu and guns. VERY ORIGINAL! Too bad the movie is out of theatre's already. Dimension really botched this one up in terms of marketting... I'm just glad I had the opportunity to see this one in the theatres.
