At the Midnight Hour (1995)
Predictable, bland but watchable.
The movie follows your standard dime-a-dozen romance plot pitting an warm-hearted sensitive young nanny against her stone-faced distant employer, with a wife who died mysteriously years ago. Such a plot would be forgivable if the leads had chemistry, but Elizabeth (Patsy Kensit) and Richard (Simon MacCorkindale) fail to bring the romance to the table. Many of their scenes together seem awkward and forced, and the eventual first kiss between them seemed so out-of-the-blue.
Aside from that, it very much feels like a cloyingly sweet made-for-TV movie that's watchable. That is, if there's nothing else on. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan of Alicia Scott or enjoy sappy romances.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
God Bless Steve Carell!
I was beyond excited to see this movie, and though I was somewhat disappointed, I feel it was worth my $7.50. (Sweet, sweet military discount!)
Though Carrey gave a solid performance, the writing was uneven and the plot almost painfully predictable. Jim Carrey was funny, but sincere. Morgan Freeman was rather God-like and wise. Jennifer Aniston was cute, but equally as neurotic. But Steve Carrel stole the show whenever he was on screen. He alone was worth the sticky theater floor, kid who sat next to me and breathed louder than an asthmatic chihuahua and countless M&Ms pelted at the back of my head.
God bless you, Steve Carell!
The Kids in the Hall (1988)
There are three types of people...
There are three types of people: Those who love KITH, those who hate KITH and those who have never seen KITH. There are no shades of grey, it seems.
Those who love it, live by the brilliant catchphrases ("A whole lotta MILKAH!" or possibly "Thirty Helens agree...") and can quote whole skits at a moments notice.
Those who hate it, either don't get it or prefer non-abrasive humour. I certainly wouldn't want to find my grandmother glued to a Buddy Cole sketch.
Those who haven't seen it, must.
Hangmen (1987)
Painful.
I seriously don't know how I sat through the whole thing.
It was beyond just "bad", it was painful. Hideous acting, bad script, and not even Sandra Bullock could have saved this movie. Even if you are a Sandra Bullock fan, I don't recommend seeing this movie. I'll give you a run-down of her role. Non-descript girlfriend with BIG hair. Captured by bad guys. Screams. Saved by boyfriend. Screams again. Happy cheesy ending.
