Tangra Blues (2021)
Heart warming and sincere...
This is a good film with its heart in the right place. Camerawork could have been bettered but nonetheless the producer had the guts to come out with such a project when it could have run the risk of being compared to Gully Boy and for no fault of its own. Performances of actors like Parambrata (who anyway has become a veteran by now) and especially Samiul deserve special mention. The biggest dampener according to me was Madhumita, who badly needs to work on her mannerisms as well dialogue delivery especially if she aims to rule the roost in future.
Cheeni (2020)
Could have been a lot better....
The sincere intent of the plot was quite evident in its execution. The performers had excelled in their respective domains. Alas! The title hardly ever succeeded in achieving that level of sweetness. The protagonist aka Chini needed a lot of grooming especially in the department of dialogue delivery. Paired alongside the stalwarts she had a lot to live up to and she fell below expectations.
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019)
A long awaited step from the mainstream hindi film industry
First of all, I would like to laud Sonam Kapoor and her production house for being one of the few to portray LGBTQ in the most 'normal terms' for eg. the relationship between Kareena K. K.'s character with her uncle in Veere di Wedding. The legacy carries on with this film as well but on a more visible level.
Speaking of performances, I got to see my favorite Juhi-ji, dashing Rajkummar Rao and Anil Kapoor. Expected some moremeat from Seema Pahwa's role but never mind. The best thing about this movie was that it was sooo normal...nothing preachy or arty about it. It actually felt so strange to come across such portrayal after such a long time in India. But better late than never.
