Us (2019)
Intense thriller
A dark, violent and harrowing movie with some real intense drama done very well.
Not as good as Get Out buy Jordan Peele seriously knows how to get the audience on the edge of their seat.
Booksmart (2019)
Good high school comedy
Imagine Superbad but told from a girls point of view and with slightly higher brow humor.
Parallel (2016)
Good story indie film
This is an independent made film in the UK. The quality is what you would expect, not great due to budget and certainly done well enough to deliver a finished feature. Sound is up and down in places but nothing that spoils the film.
I think is was a very good and original story and does well to keep the viewer interested till the end.
Acting was solid throughout.
No offense is intended but this story given a more professional script and production could be a hit in the right hands.
eHero (2018)
Aimed at Gamers, lacks the quality finish
First of all this film is not terrible. It's a film aimed at a specific market of gamers. You have never seen a film like this so specific towards gamers, I don't mean like ready player one either, I mean the life of an actual pro gamer going from tournament to tournament.
Now the story is ok, it's simple and easy to follow, there is some character and relationship development but not that deep. The acting is ok, nobody you recognise (Sean Aston cameo) and with the script they all did an ok job, the pace is quite good and I wasn't ever bored. I think in the right hands with a bigger budget this could have been a hit. For example use a real game like Overwatch or Fortnite and get a couple of established stars and this could have been quite successful.
Unfortunately without that this falls to much into the OK category and for that reason won't be seen by many or get good enough reviews.
Worth noting the director is like 19 years old and did a solid job by the looks of production. If your a gamer or have an interest in a view of the professional gaming lifestyle then I would recommend watching this.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
It's a Star Wars Movie, just not a great one.
First things First, this isn't a bad film. The acting and casting is very good. Han and Lando are very well portrayed. This looks like a Star Wars movie in terms of style and cinematography.
The only thing that lets this film down is the story is very flat.
You never feel any risk or danger, and it's a simple heist film, just in space.
Colossal (2016)
Well worth a Watch
This is film that seemed to miss a lot of people, I didnt see much publicity or media hype about it, which is probably why not many people will know about it.
Dont let this prevent you from watching it and is a very good, original movie that is likely to become a cult classic in years to come much like Donnie Darko did.
The story is odd to explain, its about monsters destroying South Koera, but those monsters are actually the 2 main characters in America through some kind of weird connection.
That is only a small part to the actual film though as it mainly focuses on the relationships of our characters.
Its not a comedy but is amusing in points, the acting is superb from Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, i particular think Jasons role as a controlling/over possessive boss/boyfriend i the stand out performance and probably his best to date, unfortunately will be missed by the awards due to the low key of the film.
Well worth a watch by anyone.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Fantastic Movie
This film is truly one hell of a fun and entertaining experience. The opening 15 minutes gave me goose bumps while seeing the origin story/introduction to the squad members. The fight/action sequences are spectacular and would stand up against any modern war movie, mirroring the skills David Ayer displayed in Fury. The story is easy to follow and explains well why people make the decisions they do (something that was missing in BVS) The actors were brilliant in their portrayal of the characters, mostly impersonating their New 52 comic book version, with subtle references to older versions. Will Smith and Margot Robbie were by far the stand out performers, Jai Courtney was a very funny Captain Boomerang and i found Joel Kinnaman to play a good Rick Flagg, a character who you have to like as they are a good guy, but is never really liked by the others. The integration with the rest of the DC universe was good, and one thing that people might not realize is that this film is really a sequel to BVS, and you really need to have seen that for this film to make complete sense. There was enough humor in the film to get a few laugh out loud moments but i would have liked more captain boomerang. So far this has been my favorite movie of 2016, which is something when you consider we have had Deadpool, Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse. I would recommend this film to anybody that likes fun, fast paced action movies, with humerus elements. Its not just a comic book movie, but if you are a comic book fan then i'm sure you will love this as much as me.
