Love Rat (2024– )

I enjoyed this series
17 March 2024
I really think the very low ratings are unfair hence my score to balance.

The first episode of this series was quite entertaining and well acted. Shirley Valentine in 2024. Yes there some questionable choices and some over the top scenarios but still once again watchable and certainly not as bad as the very low scores, however we are all entitled to our own opinions and our viewing experience. I am drawn to beautiful locations with a good story so for me it wasn't too difficult to perk my initial interest.

I personally thought that the acting was good by all including Neil Morrisey particularly the last episode. Although I did guess the outcome beforehand.

Confinement (2022)

The first review.

I am surprised that this movie doesn't have any reviews at all.

A very interesting film that delves deep into the psyche of someone who has been been incarcerated and placed in solitary confinement. This is an imaginary story and not based on a real life situation or documentary but a fantasy scenario with added facts of how many people in the US are in similar situations. How real the drama is compared with a genuine stint is anyone's guess.

I did think the movie was very well made and the actor playing the main role did a fantastic job. Also some scenes were quite harrowing and disturbing. Overall a deep dive into something uncomfortable but interesting.

Cold Moon (2016)

This is a good movie.
2 January 2024
I think the movie does start a bit shaky and could put people off for the first 30 mins or so, it comes across as a dodgy B movie and you wonder why Christopher Lloyd signed up for it. As it continues it gets better and better and the main protagonist is a good actor even though sometimes hard to decipher what he is saying. I think this movie deserves a higher rating than it currently has. It kept me interested until the finale which is also good. So if you are a fan of this type of movie I say watch and try to ignore the initial low budget feel and vibe and continue and stay with it. That's my take on this movie.

Started so well.
14 December 2023
I thought this series was very well done for the first four episodes. It was interesting and intriguing with a great array of characters and various elements to the drama which ticked along nicely in the first four episodes. The blonde guy Sam was very attractive and Pete was a sweet charismatic person and then by the end of the drama part five and six everything started to fall apart. In that I mean the story, the characters, pretty much everything which is a shame as I believe a better more twisty realistic ending would have made this drama much more memorable and popular than it will be. That's my take on this.

Painfully slow.
12 December 2023
My god this series is just sooo slow and the whole story could have been wrapped up in less than half the time.

What is it about today's dramas that are so padded out with nothingness just to make them six hourly parters it really drowns out any meaning and the viewer just meanders from one boring scene to the next. Yes the subject matter is important but by the end of this series you just do not care anymore. The whole situation has been milked to death over episodes that it loses its impact.

Overall I found this drama very slow, meandering and ultimately quite boring to watch, they even speak slowly perhaps to fill in time.

I give this show a lucky one star.

Warning: Spoilers
That's being generous.

If you want to see lots of man on man sexual action with very little else then this is the show for you.

Scene after scene the viewer is subjected to heavy full on sex scenes with zero substance on anything other than this.

I remember the movie Brokeback Mountain and thought it was a very good emotive film where subtlety was it's greater strength. This show is the opposite of that. The politics and chatter in the background of this series is hyped up pseudo intellectual to make one feel like they are watching something interesting and intelligent but it is neither of those things.

I wanted to like this.

This show is so lame and tame its painful. I'm amazed at the high ratings. It's like a soap opera desperately trying to be badass. The storyline is basically about a family that are supposed to be tight all keeping secrets and go around trying to extract those secrets, who is gonna be the winner this week. This show should have been called secrets and lies. Animal Kingdom is so lame you could let a five year old watch it without worrying. I found the whole thing very basic and unintelligible. One really didn't have to think or try to work anything out because there is zero mastery, gameplay or anything at work here.

Great second season
24 November 2023
I personally thought the second season was better than the first. The character of Bren brought this series to life and made it much more gritty. I wasn't keen on the relationship with Michael and his estranged daughter in either season. The acting and dialogue just wasn't working and was slow and repetitive. Ciaran Hinds in the first season was also good and the camera screen just loves his presence. Obviously can't go into details with the storylines because it will spoil this but I thought the character of Eric also did a great Job in both seasons. Overall I preferred the second season of this series.

Feminist Misandry.

Warning: Spoilers
To start this review I think both leads were good in their acting and the chemistry worked and the loving connection between them was positive....until... it wasn't.

The initial scene in the bathroom was way over the top. Highly unusual amount of menstrual blood for this to be realistic especially as she is at a party wearing a light dress. Any woman would know if they are " leaking" and would certainly know if they are flooding but somehow no awareness. I suppose this is the message/symbolism to define the poor girl as a weaker vulnerable person.

The girl throughout the movie is requesting sexual relations with her boyfriend who is unable to perform due to physical and psychological pressures because she has been promoted into a position in the company where they both work. He feels that the promotion should have been his. So envy and jealousy rears its head in their relationship.

At the end of the movie she whacks him over the head with a bottle that could potentially crack his skull but that's ok because they then have rough sex in the bathroom of their unwanted pre planned engagement party. She initially wanted this highly charged sexual encounter until he gets rougher and she says No half way through. So of course he is now a sadistic rapist.. and we finish with her cutting him with a knife and him dripping with blood. In other words the weak bleeding woman at the start becomes the non bleeding Victor of this male/female conflict.

I feel overall this movie should belong in the " Me too movement" section and ultimately the strong anti male message which is prevalent in modern times spoils the experience of watching. The message is more important that the quality and craft of filmmaking.

A very good drama...but.
14 October 2023
There were times that this series deserved a ten and then a five hence my mid score.

I had no idea what this was about so the reveal was a big surprise ( no spoilers). It takes a while for the story to come together and the writing and acting are well done however midway through it all gets a bit slow and you wonder where it's going and then bang which is where the show hits it crescendo and is fantastic episode 6 and 7 where the puzzle pieces all start to fit.

It's a shame that the last couple of episodes didn't keep the same momentum and I found it abit underwhelming in its finale. Certain elements of the story were not used as well as they could have been particularly at the end of the series.

Copius amounts of filling.
15 September 2023
I was looking forward to watching this and I like Oliver Coleman but I found the story just dragged and dragged without giving very much at all to the viewer.

It's like you were waiting in anticipation for something to happen. I feel that these shows instead of being a three part series which would be far better to watch are so padded out with filler scenes that it really detracts from a developing story and by the time they get to something slightly interesting you have given up the ghost and switched off mentally. That was my overall feeling about the show.

I also didn't like the soundtrack which doesn't fit with the timeline of events it feels like they are promoting an album and they will get a cut of the profits.

It's a no from me.

Absolutely dreadful.
9 May 2023
As someone who is a big fan of the original movie this series is so dire. Where to begin there is more filler than the supposed current story. Constantly staggering between time zones for no real reason other than to make up time. The later time slot being even more boring than the actual affair. Zero chemistry between the adulterers. The actors even look bored like they could do with a coffee to keep them awake. Dreadful remake. If you want to watch a stimulating well acted film based on infidelity I suggest that you stick with the original movie because it is far superior to this utter dismal concoction of nonsense.
