Trisha Illana Nayanthara (2015)
This is NOT a adult comedy....
Haven't seen a movie so pathetic and so very insulting to women like this. Started of as a comedy, went down, went really down, then hit rock bottom without any reason. This movie questions every thing about gender equality. In fact this movie should be taken by the MARD organization to show how women shouldn't be treated and judged. Movie starts with the hero looking to be like a playboy since his childhood. Then in school he hooks up n breaks up with the 1st heroine. Then he meets the 2nd heroine. Thats where the entire pathetic ideologies of the director begins. The hero, himself a drunkard, doesn't wants his girlfriend to drink and he states that his mom, sisters don't drink so even she shouldn't (WTF moment 1). As whats right his girl tells him to FO as its beyond his rights to question everything she does. Then the story shifts to Kumbakonam and he again meets the 1st heroine again. Simran (this isn't the way you comeback) has done a role which seemed OK till the end. She was the only saving grace for women in this movie. She helps the hero woo back the 1st heroine. The first heroine accepts the hero and all seemed to go well. Then the hero comes to know that she isn't a virgin. And he is furious (WTF moment 2). And he breaks up. HE tells his uncle since he is a virgin, he wants a virgin girl (WTF moment 3) In the final scene of the movie he sees another girl in the train and goes behind her (WTF moment 4). This is why I feel the movie is pathetic. First of all a lot of confusions between love and lust. Both happens. No one can judge others until they know what is exactly happening. Secondly hero is a cribber and a hypocrite. Thirdly no one can judge the character of a person by their virginity. All matters is how you are when you are with a person. Even a prostitute can become a committed woman and even a virgin can become a whore. Its no one's business to judge. (please note none of the 2 heroines cheated on the hero). This movie is way behind time. Please avoid it. If you want to see it, please use it as the lowest benchmark that you can ever imagine regarding women equality and respect.
Pisasu (2014)
Not the best.... But definitely better than the rest....
This kind of horror movie we wont come across often. Usual Tamil horror movies will involve hero heroine and a bad bad ghost trying to kill people. But for the first time we see a ghost who isn't much into blood and gore.
Movie starts with an road accident. Despite the lead character's desperate attempts the victim succumbs to her injuries and this leaves the lead character in a distress. This makes him loose his concentration in his daily chores.
Then the lead gradually understands that the girl who passed away in the accident is actually turned into a ghost and he assumes that its trying to haunt him. The scenes where the lead character and his friends get horrified by the activities of the ghost is sort of hilarious. The ghost in a way behaves like a saving guardian for the lead character.
The rest of the story revolves around why the ghost is behind the lead's back, what does it want and mainly who is responsible for her accident.
The main plus points of this movie are the way the director again relays on the music to bring out the emotions. The music director has done a terrific job. The actors are excellent in their respective parts. Good to see Radha Ravi on the screen again.
The only minus in the movie is that it really doesn't justify the ghost's actions. And also the graphics should have been concentrated on a bit more.
On the whole, nice movie with some scary moments. And it subtly conveys a message. But is way better than the things that come out today in the name of horror movies. This is a slap on the face for people who rely only on skin shows and lots of blood for a horror flick. If u want to watch a horror movie without any deviation from the story, please watch Pisasu.
PK (2014)
Rajkumar Hirani almost at his best!
This movie clearly shows how divided we are based on the concept of god. Truly a movie that has to be seen by one and all as this, if not completely, at least to an extent resolve the differences we have because of religious divisions.
Movie opening scene is a naked Khan coming out of a spaceship and almost immediately is greeted by a thief robbing him of the "signal sender". Now clothes-less Khan, with no way to go back to his home planet, is stuck in the desert of Rajasthan. Then the movie shifts to Belgium where Anushka hooks up with Shushanth who is a Pakistani. They fall in love and agree to marry with the obvious opposition form her parents and a godman. But due to some misunderstandings they split up and the godman's words were assumed to be true.
Movie shifts to New Delhi where Anushka runs into Aamir Khan. Aamir explains how he lost his signal symbol. How he ran into Sanjay dutt and how he landed in Delhi from Rajasthan. In Delhi on someone's "advice" he starts praying to god asking for his "property" back. He follows all gods, does all the routine rituals of each god. But little did he know that's not how god works. Then he realizes his "property" is with the godman and he is about to rout a lot of money from people saying its a religious talisman.
After few scenes anushka believes him and gives an introduction to he channel manager who wants to do a story based on aamir khan and the godman with who he has an old grudge. There are many hilarious scenes where khan takes on the godman who is a fake and divides people on the basis of religion. In the end the movie is about how aamir retrieves his "property" from the godman and how he unites Anushka and Shushanth.
Performance wise Aamir Khan steals the show. Anushka has done a sensible movie since her debut. Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani are at their best. Shaushanth has no apparent role but was passable in the scenes where he is in. Rajkumar Hirani is perhaps the only director who can make comedy movies with a strong message.
The minus are shushanth Anushka chemistry and a bit dragging first half. The music was OK as it just managed to get the feel of the movie but could have been way better.
Finally this movie must be watched by all so that whoever have any differences in their minds about people from other religions can sort of understand its nothing. Good movie.
Jigarthanda (2014)
A refreshing Film!
One of the finest commercial and a well made sensible movie in Tamil cinema. Rarely we see such good movies (last in Tamil being soodhu kavum).
The movie starts off with a aspiring director (and family supports his ambition) being discouraged by a renowned director. As the movie goes on we get to know that a producer who had an ego clash with the renowned director agrees to produce our hero's film. Later we get to know the producer's words were just a gimmick for the public. The producer then sets a task for the hero asking him to take inspiration from gangster epics like Thalapathy, Nayagan, God Father, Scarface, etc and make prepare a script.
The movie then shifts to Madurai where our hero follows a rustic and violent goon named sethu (assault sethu). Then the whole movie is about how the hero gets his script done, unfortunate serious problem in his movie and how he over comes it. First half is very fast paced and the second half drags a bit but the original screen play and the performance of the actors compensates for that.
The star of the movie is the antagonist Simha who portrays assault Sethu. He carries the role with such a ease which is very commendable. His timing makes even a serious scene a bit comical intentionally. Let it be a scene in which he kills someone or let it be the scene in which he learns how to act, he just fills the scene with apt expressions. Siddarth as an aspiring director has done something that isn't his usual chocolate hero kind of role. He is good in his role and is obviously overshadowed by Simha easily. Lakshmi Menon's role is a kind of role which the audience would feel is unnecessary but in one scene she justifies the character and that changes the story flow altogether.
The music director and cinematographer's work in this movie are remarkable. Their part in the creative output is as important as the directors. Karthik Subbaraj has proved that pizza wasn't just a one time brilliance. His movies will be awaited a lot more after this one. The only minute flaw is the running time of 170 minutes. But having said that the director manages to hold your attention in a neat manner.
What starts to be a rags to riches story turns into a gangster movie which in turn turns into an amazing movie with thrills comedy and surprises filled ones. Such movies reinstate our faith in good cinema which shows skin n abuses and gore with mass heroes isn't really necessary to deliver a hit movie. In short the movie should not be missed and if u don't know the language then wait as this movie will surely be remade in many languages! Cheers to the Jigarthanda team. Thanks for making the film worth my money.
Kahaani (2012)
One of the best!
One of the finest thrillers I have seen in Bollywood. In fact after A Wednesday this is the best thriller in Bollywood. Among all senseless movies, such movies reinstate faith in Hindi cinema. Excellent effort by the director in both scrip and casting.
The movie starts with a terrorist trying out a gas attack on rats and when thats successful he tries it out with humans on the metro. Then the story shifts to a couple of years later. Here a heavily pregnant Vidya arrives in kolkata to search for her missing husband. All she has left with her is only a photograph of him. She directly goes to the police station from the airport and here she meets rana who instantly develops a liking for her. She lodges a complaint and the inspector of the station is also impressed as she fixes the new software in the station computers.
Now with the help of rana she begins the search for her husband with the minimal number of clues she has got. As she proceeds in her search she learns that her husband resembles a former employee in a certain company ndc. When these developments take place she unknowingly shakes up an old case with the Intelligence bureau and the second in command A.Khan enters. He is no nonsense cop whose mission is not clear in the beginning. At the same time, few people feel the heat that that triggers few killings by the normal and not so harmful looking contract killer bob. The first half finishes with the last scene being bob trying to kill vidya.
A.Khan then reveals to vidya that the former employee with whom her husbands face recemble is the dreaded terrorist who killed 100 people in the kolkata metro. and he also reveals that the terrorist was a former government agent who turned into a terrorist there is a mole in the ndc and ib who are directly helping the terrorist get away. The rest of the story revolves around how Vidya connects all the dots and help the police. And does she find her husband forms the rest of the story.
The movie has a lot of nail biting scenes. The bgm is a main ingredient as it adds to the suspense immensely. The director should be praised for preparing such a tight script. And as far as the casting, he has just got the right people for the right role.
The movie has been released just after Vidya Balan got the national award and this movie might get her another one. The woman almost singlehandedly has carries out this movie on her shoulders. She is just almost ruling the male dominated industry with her moves like nokj, dirty picture and the latest one kahaani.
Agneepath (2012)
Enjoyable with immense drama!
This is what i call a paisa vasool movie. Good music, excellent performances from the villain and hero, few illogical scenes but thoroughly enjoyable movie.
Movie starts like the old agneepath where the village hails Dinanath Chauhan, the "masterji" as a God. Enters the village's zamindar's son Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt). He wants the village for his cocaine business. He fools the villagers and kills the masterji in front of his family by hanging him from a tree. Vijay Dinanath Chauhan takes his pregnant mom to Mumbai. His mom gives birth to a daughter with the help of the people. Then in an incident young Vijay witnesses a murder, saves Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor) and murders a policeman and joins Rauf's gang. As time rolls by, Vijay (Hrithik Roshan) becomes the right hand of Rauf Lala. Now Rauf gives two parts of the city (Mumbai) to hrithik for his illegal business and this irks his son, mazhar lala. In the same time Hrithik plans a plot to create a scene as he is saving mazhar to earn Rauf's trust. Then Kancha sends a man to kill Mazhar. he manages to kill Mazhar and Hrithik kills him. The first half finishes when hrithik brings the body of Mazhar to Rauf.
As the second half starts, Rauf is admitted in the ICU because of the shock and Hrithik takes over Rauf's empire. He meets Kancha Cheena in Manduwa. By the time he finishes the meet, Rauf recovers and realizes that hrithik has killed his son. So he takes Hrithik's sister. Hrithik saves her. And now a series of dramatic scenes happens where Vijay's sister knows about her brother, his mom will be in the verge of forgiving him, Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik gets married. By this time Kancha comes to know the identity of Vijay. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Songs are good and the bgm is apt for the movie. Sanjay Dutt has given an amazing performance as Kancha Cheena. Hrithik has almost matched with his performance as Vijay. Priyanka Chopra role as Kalila is good but she has very less scope to show off her acting skills. Om Puri has dome his role neatly. Kat's Chikini Chameli is superb on the big screen.
In short its a movie filled with drama and action and can be enjoyed thoroughly.
Nanban (2012)
Frame to frame remake!
Nanban is a frame to frame remake of 3 idiots. Nothing new has been tried on the script, Shankar has not tried to "kollywood"ize the movie nor Vijay has tried to include any man vs helicopter fight. So since its a total remake, I can say once you get used to seeing Vijay in a role immortalized by Aamir Khan, u can feel the old magic to a good extent.
There is nothing to say about the story as its nothing different from 3 idiots. Panchavan Parivendan (Vijay) is a happy go lucky guy, a genius and class topper but he is totally against the educational system as he feels its just too mechanical and no ideas or inventions are not getting any encouragement and majority of the students are getting "trained" and not educated. Enters his two friends Srikanth as Venkatramakrishnan and Jeeva as Sevalkodi Senthil. Sathyaraj as Virumandi Santhanam (Virus) is a strict and rules abiding director of the college and the father of Vijay's lady love Illeana. The rest of the story is how he changes the life of his friends, challenges and wins against Satyaraj n how he reunites with Illeana.
Casting: Jeeva fits perfectly in the role of Sevalkodi Senthil and delivers a good performance and good that he doesn't shy away from playing the second fiddle role after delivering movies like ko. Shrikanth as Venkatramakrishnan looks a bit uncomfortable in few scenes but then completely copies Madhavan. Satyaraj as Virumandi Santhanam does a very good job and should be appreciated as he has bought the virus character out perfectly. Illeana has almost no role in the movie apart from appearing as an eye candy and she does it perfectly. SJ Surya's guest appearance is sort of enjoyable. Sathyan as Srivatsan (Silencer) has relpicated the role of omi vadiya without any changes. Last but not least, Vijay. He has completely copied Aamir Khan from frame one and he has imitated the expressions also. But he has done a great job in that too. He has almost bought back the feel of the role that is etched in our memory by Aamir Khan. Vijay has not shown his heroism anywhere in the film and that works out perfectly for him. A soft, college student Vijay can be seen in this only after Sachin. Music is average and Harris should have done something better especially when a classic is being remade.
So this movie can be watched by people who have watched 3 idiots but it should be watched without any comparison. For people who have not watched 3 idiots, then they will adore this movie.
Vettai (2012)
A very good entertainer.
I got to watch this movie in the fdfs. Went with no expectations whatsoever. But i was not disappointed. What i thought would be a regular mindless masala movie, turned out to be pretty good in the end.
The movie starts with the introduction of both the heroes and heroines with a song for each. unusually we can see Arya, the younger one, standing up and saving the elder one Madhavan. Madhavan gets his dad's police job and takes it up with too much hesitation after Arya's encouragement. As the movie starts, Madhavan literally shivers in his police uniform in the harbor city of Thutukudi which is filled with gangs of rowdys. When Madhavan is given a duty, the fighting part was done by Arya and the pride and the villain's wrath goes to Madhavan. In between these stuff the heroes meet and fall in love with the heroines.
When the villains come to know about this double game played by the brothers, they bash up Madhavan. Madhavan, after a series of operations and encouragement from Arya, rejoins the police force with a rejuvenated energy. What happens here after forms the rest of the story.
If first half shows Madhavan's cowardice and second half his developed bravery, Arya's fearlessness stands out. Sameera and Amala Paul have done their "heroine" duties nicely and they are good to look on screen. Ashutosh Rana has given a neat performance in his first Tamil movie. Music is above average.
On the whole, its an awesome entertainer and can be thoroughly enjoyed by one and all. :)
Rajapattai (2011)
Utter waste....
I never expected such a lame movie from Vikram or Suseenthiran. After a masterpiece like deivathirumagal this is a negative step for vikram. And for Suseenthiran this makes him one of the few directors who are beginning to waste their talent after a couple of good films. The music is also not impressive and a shocking disappointment from someone like Yuvan Shankar Raja.
The movie starts with vikram's ambition to become a great villain in the cinemas. And the story shifts to land mafia. An old man is taken care of vikram n he protects him from his son who is behind the property. The old man in fact is the only saving grace of the movie. he helps Vikram get his heroine and the heroine's part is just to mumble few words and dance. As the story (if any) goes on, the son cheats his dad and gets the property and the son is again cheated by the land mafia people. The rest of the story is about how vikram saves the lands from the mafia people.
In short its one of the lamest movies ever made in Tamil. The best part of the movie is the last item song with shreya and reema sen. But the audience are so bored that they may actually not have the patience to watch the song. So u can avoid this movie. If u have a very free weekend and some extra bucks then u can waste it on this movie.
Payanam (2011)
Very good thriller!
Wow! This is the best Indian thriller I have ever seen. I feel prakash raj productions now has got the "has to be good" look like how Aamir Khan production house has got! This guy makes classy movies and attracts the crowd. And this movie is damn neat. The movie is basically about terrorism and an hijack situation (Actually we have seen many vijaykanth movies where he single handedly tackles the terrorists and saves the people). The movie starts with a lot of characters being introduced. And the beginning of the movie looks like its inspired from "United 93". Well there cannot be much of a difference in hijacking sequences. The passengers belong to all sect of the society. There is a movie star (Prithvi), a retired army officer, a minister, a church father, a Pakistani family and lot of common people. As the movie goes on there are few dialogues which are really good. Like the dialogue where an atheist character tells the reason for problems in India is mainly because of so many divisions thats been caused by religions. The dialogues of the movie is a huge positive. And there are few instances where a common man feels that what ever his star does on screen is true and keeps irritating him to go fight the terrorists. As time goes on, the terrorists terrorize the passengers and place their demands. Here Prakash Raj, Nagarjuna and the rest of the government ppl arrive. They come to know that the demands are too huge like ransom and the release of a dreaded terrorist who has striking resemblances to a real life terrorist. Then unexpectedly the terrorist dies in a freak accident (divine justice) and this puts the team of Prakash Raj and Nagarjuna in a spot of bother. The rest of the movie deals with how they handle the situation and save the passengers. The positives out of the movie are the dialogues, terrific acting from the cast, the bgm and the intensity of the movie. Obvious special references has to be given to Prakash Raj and Nagarjuna. They literally stole the show even though the people in the plane displayed awesomeness in their acting. And its tough to get comedy out of actors in a tough situation but the director has achieved it superbly by giving some very nice enjoyable scenes. This movie rocks and its another gem from the Prakash Raj production house. Don't miss this movie for any reason as the feel can be got only in the theaters as the bgm booms in your ears.
Kaavalan (2011)
Vijay is back....
I wanna say this is not a regular Vijay movie. After seeing a sting of flops and xerox in the name of movies, I went to kaavalan with just few expectations. Well I have to say I was more than satisfied. Vijay Asin combo rocks.
Movie starts with a "not so usual" type of Vijay introduction and it gave an first impression that this might be a different movie. Few minutes into the movie we have an basic idea what the movie is gonna be about. Rajkiran, a former some type of don, names baby Vijay. Vijay as he grows up he just loafs in the village. So his parents pack him off to Rajkiran's place as a bodyguard.
There enters Vadivelu. With Vadivelu and few fights and sentiment, Vijay is assigned to look after Asin and her friend Mithra Kurian in their coll. He walks behind them all the time with a security uniform, Since he is good in studies, he is made to teach the female leads. These scenes are hilarious.
After being frustrated by all these, Asin, on the advice of her friend, calls up Vijay from an blocked number ad flirts with him on the phone. He first thinks its a prank call but then he gets addicted to the calls. But at the same time she realizes that Vijay respects her dad and her a lot.
As the film progresses the love between Vijay and Asin progresses but vijay has no idea that the girl is Asin. As the movie goes on, Asin completely falls in love with Vijay. what happens after this forms the rest of the story.
Basically the movie is good. Even though its yet another remake hit, its better than original craps like atm, sura. Best positives from this movie is Vijay's awakening to the fact that people hate his stereotype movies. And Asin's return to Tamil movies. In short the movie is good and can be watched.
Asal (2010)
A terrible way to sped time and money!
Oh god! IS this a movie? Damn boring with no apparent story! Awful acting by most of the cast. Comedy turns out to be irritating. Music is passable.
Hero starts with a kidnap situation in France. Thala single handedly solves it. Dad thala is an arms company owner. Has three sons and predictably son ajith is the apple of his eye. Son ajith is so clever that he can foresee any danger thats approaching because of his brothers mistakes. Then at a crucial moment in the story old ajith dies. Then under mysterious circumstances the younger brother of Ajith is kidnaps. Ajith woes to rescues him and eventually he does it. but the brothers plan to kill Thala. Movie then revolves around Ajith, how he takes his revenge and comes to know some shattering truth behind his dad's death.
The movie is not completely unwatchable. Sameera is good. Prabhu has done a decent role. Ajith's style statement in this movie rocks. Speak less formula of Thala works out superbly.
Vijay VS Ajith! I usually used to wonder why the fans are so maniac minded to fight for heroes. But these two guys give enough reason for the fans to fight. They are neck to neck in giving huge disappointments. vijay gives classics (sarcastically) like kuruvi, villu, sura etc. Thala is not far behind giving greats (again sarcastically) like asal, aegan.
Khaleja (2010)
Very disappointing!
Usually people have high expectations for every mahesh babu film. But this one is a big let down by the team. Uninteresting story, OK acting, below average music and good camera work and occasionally enjoyable comedy. And the movie gives you a feel that it is 500 hours long. First half drags a lot. Second half drags even more thus making the movie seriously bad and boring.
Movie starts with few sages building hype about the hero. Then it shifts to a fight which is fought for a jug of water in the desert. There hero meets the 1st comedian and narrates him about the heroine and his story of coming to the desert. Heroine always brings bad luck to the hero. We3ll this looks to be quite interesting but there is nothing more than a bit of curious scenes. Then as the flash back finishes, the heroine's dad fixes her marriage with the villain's son. Son takes her to a desert for a so called romantic dinner but accidentally reveals that his intentions are to have sex with her. She runs away and meets the hero again. This leads to few comical scenes which are really enjoyable. First half ends when the hero, surviving a stab wound, bashes an unknown gang with superhero powers and he meets the guy who roams around the country in search of the hero who he considers as god! Second half begins with the guy curing the hero along with his guru. Then hero gets back to normality and realizes he is a village where everyone considers him as god. Then from nowhere a medical camp is set up in the village. Villain obstructs it. Then why the villain stops him and what happens next forms the rest of the story.
Thus this movie is clearly a disappointment and a negative step for mahesh's career.
Enthiran (2010)
Movie took Indian graphics and Thalaivar to next level!
This is a treat for everyone. Doesn't matter if u are a Rajni fan or not. Doesn't matter if u are a Tamilian or not. This movie is thoroughly enjoyable. This is like watching the effect of "Pancha-bootham" on screen. Rajni, Shankar, Arr, Aish and Sun pictures. Expected a masterpiece. Well i was not disappointed. If inception was a masterpiece then this is from our country. Looks so pleasing to see a non Bollywood movie taking the Indian graphics to a whole new level. Reaching this height will take few years. And not to forget this is Cochin Haneefa's last appearance in a Tamil movie (rip Haneefa. we miss u!).
Fist the story starts off with Rajni (not in an usual intro) fixing up his robot with Santhanam and Karunas as assistants. Robot gets created. Its basically like a child with no worldly sense. The robot makes few comedies which look silly but they are enjoyable. Rajni brings it to the notice of scientists but his guru (villain) is jealous. Villain rejects the robot authorization stating it has no feeling and its too vulnerable to external forces. So our scientist (Thalaivar) feeds in the feelings to it.
Its falls in love with Aish. So Rajni destroys it. Villain recreates it with massive destructive powers. The robot turns into a full time super-robotic villain. He creates a small army for itself. Then the story is how Hero Thalaivar rescues Aish from villain Thalaivar.
Well i could say this is an Indian version of Frankenstein (to an extent)!
The graphics used in the movie, mainly last 35 mins of second half is breathtaking. The formations of shapes by the robotic army were simply unimaginable for normal minds like ours! Sphere, rods, sheets were the first few to come. The snake and giant were the heights of imagination and graphics work.
Thalaivar, as usual, rocks and his presence is just enough to make the movie memorable. In the first few scenes Thalaivar with beard in the looks completely different. In villain sequencing one can notice the villain of 16 vaithinilae. Aish looks like a beautiful doll. After iruvar she has done a comment able job in Tamil cinemas. Samthanam, the human villain and karunas were OK and they fit their roles perfectly. Music and direction were as good as ever. Every time Arr + Shankar happens, a work which is universally appreciated in created. This is nothing less. Sun picture's marketing strategies are seriously great. Well Thalaivar needs no marketing! Suriyana pakarathuku torch thevaiya?
The only negatives are 1) I expected a lot form Santhanam especially after boss engira baskaran but his role is just passable. 2) Length of the movie is a bit too long. Ten minutes lesser would have been a better option. 3) And of course lack of Rajni masala. The lack of it affects a bit.
Which ever movie Srk refuses, it becomes a huge hit. Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, etc. He has refused to do Endhiran too. Well this stands on top of the heap which were blockbusters and this is gonna bother the so called Badshah a lot. And for the "art film loving" maniacs. This is not for you. Don't dare go near theaters and say the movie is not good. Thalaivar fans treat Rajni as god. They will kill u, literally! The tickets rates are rocketing. Well its justified. Don't bother paying few extra bucks. U wont regret. Movie is too entertaining and remarkable. If u miss this in theaters then you have missed an Indian masterpiece. THALAIVAR ROCKS!!!! SUPERSTAR!!!!
Sura (2010)
Aiyo Aiyo! Did i spend money on this crap!
Please give us an option of 0 stars. Its very useful particularly when such movies are been made and reviewed. One of the most horrible movies I have ever seen in my 20 years of life! I paid some 140 bucks for this thrash. I would have donated that money to an orphanage or at least bought myself a beer. Seriously a crap movie. Not many will believe that I am a Vijay fan. I was never ashamed of calling myself a Vijay fan but if Vijay continues to make such movies, then i guess a lot of fans will turn against him. I mean this is totally out of the world (of course in the negative sense).
The movie begins with our home made Michael Phelps swimming from the sea and reaching the shore and singing and dancing. Only he was happy for his survival in the movie. He helps his ignorant friends who are so stupid to mortgage their ration cards. Hero is a self proclaimed Mgr (sorry Mgr fans). Then villain is a completely bad guy. Smuggler + gangster + politician = villain (he is supposed to be better than any underworld don). Heroine, the copycat, is really beautiful and thinks the hero is the only handsome guy in the whole world.
As the story evolves (if there was a story), the hero wants to build homes for his area people. Villain wants their land. He tries killing the hero but our hero is very very strong. He survives hits on his head and even after they try to burn him, he comes out alive. He challenges the villain. And the movie is all about how he succeeds in the challenge.
Songs are completely out of place. The Telugu Billa rips are misplaced in this movie. Tammana looks beautiful but her acting skills makes her unbearable. Villain has done a great job in Magadheera but was utterly wasted in this movie. Direction was awful.
Positives from this movie is really hard to pick. But i would say Vijay dance needs some mention. It was like one black hair on the head of an 80 year old man.
I wont recommend this movie even to my sworn enemies. I have one piece of advice for Vijay. Look I am your fan. but please don't do thrash like this. People around you are gaining better fame and name and they have done just half the number of movies you have done. Mahesh Babu remakes are enough. At least try ripping Ramirez Khan or Shah Rukh Khan movies. They may suit you and will give you a break from stereotype movies!
I Hate Luv Storys (2010)
Terrible.... Horrible....
Undoubtedly one of the worst Hindi movies i have ever seen. Complete thrash. I laugh at myself for spending 200 bucks on this collection of reels of crap. Waste of almost everything. Boring story line. A hero who is literally spoiling his uncle's name. A heroine who occasionally acts (most of the time she overacts). And a frustrated producer. And these ppl came together and gave us this "masterpiece"! Story starts with the heroine joyfully overreacting to everything on earth. Hero thinks he is a playboy and he can get any girl. Well he is the hero. Then fate/ destiny/ director brings them together. She hates him then loves him. He dose not believe in love. Well plot is so boring to type. The only good thing about the movie was the music. The 1 * is for the music. Well rgv n kjo r at loggerheads. Well they are competing among themselves and challenging the other for making the worst movie possible by giving masterpieces like this n rann.
Boss Engira Baskaran (2010)
Full length comedy movie!
Hi! Its long time since i saw such a comedy movie. Everything seems to fall in place in this movie. Starting from the intro till the climax. Santhanam steals the show. His one liners r the main strength of the movie. Many references of thalapathy (Vijay) and thala (Ajith). N few references of our Superstar! Tamil fans can imagine how crazy the theater will go for these references... Coming back to the movie. Arya has done something different. Way diff from his nan kadavul n madrasapatinam. The new role fits him properly. Nayantara is as gorgeous as ever. She has done a role which has no vulgarity. Jokes are mostly neat with just a few jokes with double meaning. Every role has been portrayed perfectly. Music is passable. And Santhananm again! From his scene 1 till climax he forms a main part of the story. Everything about Santhanam, from his marriage till his ways of helping the hero is hilarious. Jeeva has done a very neat guest appearance. He has just returned the favor Arya done to him in sms. Jeeva's "oru quarter solen" dialogue is back! In short boss engira baskaran is a very good comedy movie. Can be enjoyed by everyone.Nanbenda!!!!
Dabangg (2010)
What an entertainer!!!!
Well Salman is back! Dabangg is a complete entertainer. Sallu steals the show as a practical cop who balances between good and bad. Arbaaz has done a role which was decent. And Sonakshi Sinha cant have a better debut. The movie works on the star power of Salman, his body language, dialogue delivery tone n almost everything he does on the screen. His one liners were hilarious. N the UP style of talking in English was just perfect! Sonu sood has done a good role but i have seen him in similar roles in southern movies so he was just decent. Sinha girl has done a good job for a debutant. Om puri and Anupam kher were apt for their small roles. Movie, as i told, is a complete entertainer. Has the right mix of comedy action n sentiments. The scenes in which sallu cries for him mom n when his step-dad doesn't accept him is really good. N union of the brothers was shown well. Its hard to believe a first time director has given this movie. Music was another USP for the movie. Songs were really nice n it synchronized with the movie perfectly. And the movie has a trademark shirtless Salman in the climax. Well but the movie had some flaws. The first half seems to drag a bit and u almost get bored for the last 20 minutes of first half. Marriage of Salman is a bit hard to digest. But the second half is simply superb n racy. A news channel compared Salman to southern Superstar Rajni stating that both entertain in the same way and it works out with the masses. Well i don't know what to say! In short Dabangg is a complete entertainer n will be enjoyed if watched and not analyzed!
