The best movie yet!
23 August 2009
I see a lot of complaining about how this movie strayed to far from the books, and that's very true, but I still loved it. They took out a lot of things and inserted a lot of things too (the opening scene is awesome) and that was why this movie was able to positively surprise me even though I read the books.

Everything looked beautiful, they made Ginny's character a lot more likable and the things I found most important were still there.

You could feel the actors loved to be there, and everything was full of enthusiasm. The teen drama balances on the verge of annoying, but is welcome relief from the darker scenes. Altogether I really liked this movie.

A wonderful atmosphere, but...

I love Chanel. I can't actually afford the clothes, but that won't stop me from liking them. Just like reading one or two bad reviews didn't stop me from wanting to see 'Coco Avant Chanel'.

The first part of the movie seemed very promising. It didn't take me long to like Coco's character, and everything seemed to have a reasonable pace. Then the movie zooms in on Coco's relationship with 'Boy' and you keep hoping things get interesting, but they don't.

I spent most of the movie admiring the wonderful atmosphere while the lovebirds exchanged meaningful looks. I would have liked this movie more if it paid more attention to things like Coco's hat shop, rather than a relationship of which we all know the ending anyway.

The best thing about this movie is the wonderful atmosphere, but if you don't like slow romance you can skip this one.

Honest and optimistic

The DVD cover kind of put me of, with all the purple bubbles and whatnot. I'm very glad I picked it up anyway: I ended up loving this movie! It's sober, but remains a fairytale. This makes the movie appealing to both children and adults.

The characters are all extremely human. I really felt for Edward, Max and Penelope's father, but the greatest character is Penelope herself. Most fairytale heroines are either helpless damsels or super-independent. Penelope is neither: she is what a human being would be in her situation, and that's what makes you care about her.

Penelope will break your heart and then put it back together again. A wonderful movie!

Reaper

I wasn't expecting to like it, but this is a great show. It's funny and the plot is actually thought through and (sort of) consistent. It's not just serving the jokes. Especially the second season has a serious touch.

That aside, I gotta say it's all thanks to 'the Devil' that I kept watching. Ray Wise plays him brilliantly: he is sadistic, intimidating, funny and still has room left for rare moments of affection(?). Much of the cast looks boring compared to him: I never really liked any of the 'good' characters, but that makes it funnier when they're the victim of whatever the episode is about.

Altogether, 'Reaper' is definitely worth a watch. It's too bad it got canceled.
