Green Lantern (2011)
Graphics- Not Bad, A few laughing moments here and there
I wouldn't say it is the best superhero adaptation but this one fits in the middle-average. Blake Lively looks stunning, as usual. And I really like her 'Al-I-have-seen-you-naked' line. She nailed it oh yeah. And of course Ryan did a great job as well. Good to see that he's working out in the gym. :P
Graphics-wise, I believe it could be much better than that, just lacked the oomph. The guy that acted as Hector did a brilliant job as well. Face expressions and all.
I do have a little comment on the way it ends though. As the first part of the credit rolls up, most of the movie-goers are getting out of the cinema already. I would say...about 70% of them missed the last part where the Green Lantern guy put on the Yellow Ring.
Ella Enchanted (2004)
Songs are great, Storyline Unique
I say, not bad. Wonderful cast, so-so funny and incredibly catchy songs. It never appear to me that Anne Hathaway will be doing a musical movie but this looks good on her. I am just wondering whether she really sings that or is it just she mouthing the words. She looks gorgeous, no doubt. The kingdom looks so old and ancient, yet the minds of the villagers can be so modern, like do you think there would be girls cheering and holding 'I LOVE YOU, PRINCE CHARS' board back in the olden days? No, right? It would have been better if it happened in a modern and civilized world but I believe there wouldn't be any elves and giants and fairies then, would they? I was just thinking how good the Prince will look with his hair spiked up, tuxedos and guards and Merz instead of those kingly suits filled with metals and swords.
Table for Three (2009)
They Shine! Characters Portrayed Beautifully
Some glitches here and there are unavoidable. For a teen like me, I would be sleeping halfway through the show has it not been Brandon Routh's beautiful face on the screen. Of course, compliments have to be given out to Brandon Routh for trying his hands on romance. He's not bad you know. He still has to work on his randomness though. I applaud him for trying out different genres. That will do him some good. Sophia Bush acts crazy here amid his serious character in One Tree Hill. I kinda' like it, you know how easily she can just put the character in line and make it seem so real. The ending is a little cloudy with no indication whether the couple is really crazy and they will come back to haunt Scott or not but that's another story. I will leave it to the director to figure that out. But, I was thinking that it would make a good horror movie you know. A couple who is mad in love with each other and just need a friend to make topics more interesting and when the friend starts to leave them for another girl, they decided to kill the girl. You know, that could make a good movie. LOL!
My Sister's Keeper (2009)
An incredibly overwhelming movie
I never thought it would be this nice, mainly because the cover didn't look too tempting but I watched it anyway and come to a conclusion, "A superb movie for all ages, that will teach each and every one of us a lesson we will never forget: To appreciate life and not to control others with a decision of ours." I give my full rating to Kate, a young, talented girl for taking this challenging role, for portraying a leukemic patient so well and for putting in such powerful emotions that seem so real to me. She simply steal the limelight from Cameron Diaz and Abigail, thus turning her into an overnight star. Abigail has her time too where she shines and Cameron did her best as the mother who wants the best for her children. Everything seems into place except one obvious mistake that is, I am sure Cameron didn't shave her hair, did she? One moment she is bald, and another her hair is long and silky. So impossible. At least if her hair is short(like at the end of the movie when she is back to practice), I would still believe that she was once bald.
The Hangover (2009)
Some obvious goofs but nonetheless, a funny watchable movie
Not bad although definitely not Bradley Cooper's best. I would say he did better in All About Steve, truthfully. Anyway, it was a bit boring in the beginning of the movie and things just get better from the trip to Vegas. Maybe it is just me, not getting those jokes spilling in but I still think that this movie doesn't have the oomph I am looking for. And some of it doesn't make sense like the fact that Doug stayed in the roof for two or is it three days without coming back down to ask for help or look for Phil, Stu and Alan. I mean, it is not like he's naked or something. So, why stayed there for no reason? And about the Chow, he is a good actor oh yeah. I am surprised that Stu and Phil don't have the senses to check whether it is really the Doug they are looking for before handing over the money. Plus, Jade doesn't look like a stripper at all. They should find someone who looks like one.
Gake no ue no Ponyo (2008)
Predictable Plot That Suits Children
The plot is very predictable, as you can see, from the beginning of the story...everything is very predictable. You can't consider 5 years old kids as romance. They are just looking for companions and to think that love can sprinkle at this age is silly. I was looking forward to a more mature and teenage mermaid with an ordinary young man like Sousuke. Anyway, I would totally recommend this to those twelve years old and below as this provide real entertainment to them but for me, a 16 years old, this story appears too far-fetched and I didn't learn much from this movie. The graphics though proves to be amazing. Using water color to portray certain scenes and thus turning it into a movie doesn't make it realistic but create a familiar scene that connect me to my childhood, where everything evolves around pencil, crayons and water color. Thanks to the crew and graphic design department for successfully helping the older ones to reminiscence the sweet moments.
Coraline (2009)
A Little More Humor Will Earn It A 10
A pretty impressive animation movie. The 3D effect was used effectively, just like A Christmas Carol. However, if there is more humor, it would have earn a 10 from me. The only moment I did smile was when Coraline threw the cat to the Other Mother. I find the Other Dad as well as the Real Dad a little annoying. His face was so long, it could have touch the floor and the eye bags! Oh, and the fact that the REAL parents were scribbling 'Help Us' on the mirror and later forgot about they, being trapped make the whole scene looked so fake. I mean, how can they not know that they were trapped in a place so cold and snow was falling off their clothes and they didn't realize that? I am pretty sure there will be a Coraline 2 as I can see the story hanging there. Perhaps the Other Mother manages to open the little door and began to haunt the city, so Coraline defends the entire city with Wyborne and a few more characters, perhaps. Can't wait for the next one and hopefully the crew can add in more action and suspense.
Material Girls (2006)
Not As Bad As That
Well, it is not really bad. True, I watch it just because there are the Duffs in it but do give some credit to the crews for setting up the plot quite nicely. I must say the movie has some lame lines and not as funny as what I would have predicted from Hillary. But, this is Haylie's breakthrough act. She has a drop dead gorgeous face and a pretty good smile. Not to mention they boot in two hot guys. Material Girls has a plot almost familiar to us all because I think they could have been almost predictable. If they could add in some bizarre moments in between, it would have been beyond memorable. Not Hillary's best definitely, but worth a watch for those who are just too bored and need some romance to spice up their life. Not recommended though to those who loves action, thriller and will easily feel sleepy when watching a boring movie.
Inkheart (2008)
Ending was a little rushed
Brendan Fraser is an awesome actor and of course credits should be given to the others who I couldn't remember their real names(Dustfinger, Resa and her daughter). The plot was pretty easy to understand though I feel that the beginning was too elongated while the ending was too rushed. It was like, "Need to end this quick. It has been an hour and forty minutes'. There were some unnecessary, boring scenes that would have been interesting if there were more dramas. Some funny moments in between but wouldn't stick on one's memory for long. It is terribly disappointing that this Capricorn who claimed to have so many men couldn't even stop the daughter or so-called princess to stop reading. What were they waiting for, standing there? And how stupid it was that there were no guards in the prison where the daughter and the author of Inkheart as well as Dustfinger were kept, enabling Dustfinger to escape although the stupid Basta(is it?) screamed his lungs out for guards. And of course the ending was so predictable, there was no surprise whatsoever. Everyone gets what they want. Although it will be sad if someone dies, but hey, that will be good to spark a topic right?
