From Noon Till Three (1976)
The strangest Bronson film ever
Never have I seen a Bronson flicker as bizarre as this gem. Here we have a outlaw who breezes into the life of a lonely, remote woman on the post civil war outback. Their relationship takes off like a ruptured duck, producing an outcome that only the likes of a taro card reader could predict. I loved the way this story played out as the action led from one stranger than fiction event to another. This led Bronson's character to lose the one thing more valuable to him than all the bank money he had ever desired and his lover to lose even more. This was a top notch Charles Bronson film, well written and played out, possibly the best thing I've seen him in yet. Thumbs up.
Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982)
back to the future without the Delorean
Most excellent madcap drama containing quite a few good one liners, my fave being "did you see that machine spit at me?". Chock full of cool characters ranging from the totally homicidal gang leader and two witless helpers played by dumb and dumber to the coolly clueless motocross racer caught in a warp he never quite got his head around. The action never let up from the opening frame until the last minute when the lustful gang leader finally cut a deal with the owner of the machine and the audience was treated to a truly rousing, hair raising grand finale. I love this genre of film but usually feel short changed after watching one: not so with Timerider. Beautiful scenery, good acting, and an outlandishly ludicrous story made for one and a half hours of dee-light.
Fat City (1972)
depressing look at the back side of America
Practically everybody in this film is a loser. They lose to booze, lust, laziness, or for being unable to figure out any way at all to stop the vicious cycle of their miserable lives. The film concentrates of 2 'fighters', one being an up and comer, the other a down and outer. Neither of the these two could ever give what it takes to become professional fighters because they have no heart for putting out what it takes to become a champion. One barely had the desire to put on his pants in the morning, and couldn't even do that without spending several minutes looking for a cigarette. The other guy's idea of a training session was 5 minutes on the speed bag and then accepting the other bum's suggestion to go get a beer. The film ended like these to pathetic people's lives will play out and finish.
