Full Count (2019)
The Ryan character.
Why did he hate Milton so bad again? Did the movie leave a plot line out of the final cut? And then he couldn't please his dad and od'd on steroids? What a rough first week of college. I used to play college ball and didn't know you practiced on first day of school now.
Quadrophenia (1979)
I came for the album, I stayed for the masterpiece film
Like most folks, I loved the album first. I don't think there's a better piece of recorded music by any band than The Who's Quadrophenia. The movie follows the album so very lightly though. I really don't think you need to know the album or story when you watch this.
Phil Daniel was so great as Jimmy. I hope he was nominated for some acting award and Franc for some directing award. So many great scenes. The one that hits me most hard every time I see it is during "The Bellboy" scene. After all of the negativity in Jimmy's life, he sees Ace's GS. Things are better. Or are they? I always get a lump in my throat on this particular scene. The last 10 minutes are spellbinding. I can't believe more folks don't know about this movie.
Being from the American south, the accent took me 3 times of watching to understand almost anything. Be prepared.
The Simpsons: Homer the Great (1995)
Perfect episode and features my funniest Simpson moment
I have seen this numerous times and love the story. What a great idea for an episode. Had any other show ever covered a topic like a secret, organized club before?
Onto my favorite scene from the whole series: In the first act, Homer is stuck in traffic on his way to the power plant. He finds one spot, that is right next to his house. In the next act, when Homer becomes a Stonecutter, he drives to work, gets stuck, but turns down a lonely road. Then a fancy, secret tunnel opens up. His parking remains the same though. When Bart notices, he says, "Same spot, huh dad?". Homer responds, "Yeah, but they gave me these roller blades to glide to front door". He puts them on and wobbles around saying, "Sweeeet". Man, that whole scene is hilarious. Every time I am physically unsure of myself, I always repeat "sweet" like Homer.
Miami Vice: The Home Invaders (1985)
Great episode even sans Tubbs
This episode starts so strong with a invasion that is gruesome. The break ins are so frequent and violent, vice is called to help robbery. As much as this story centers around the action, I enjoy the underlying tale better: Crockett's old mentor being replaced by his new. The ending in which Jan's best, melancholy tune playing decides to retire when he realizes that the game has passed him by and retires hits home.
Again, there are far better in season one, but this one is a winner (especially after following Made For Each Other). There are some really good Crockett episodes coming, so this was probably a test for later ones without Tubbs. One cool thing that Castillo did that Tubbs never has is when he choked that dude unconscious.
