Queens (2024)
Finally A New Take On Documentaries
It's an all female produced, edited, and narrated documentary that spotlights female animals which I can only assume provoked the 1 star reviews. How sad that such an amazing piece of work is overlooked due to sexism. The cinematography is thrilling. Capturing these clips takes extreme talent and experience and we see that here, but what I absolutely loved is the soundtrack and editing. It worked so well with the shots and I have rewatched the end of the hyena episode over and over. I've never had a documentary evoke the emotion this series made me feel. Angela Basset is a force of nature and her narration seals the deal for me.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
How Is This The Highest Rated MI?
How can you go from the famous stunts of the early MI movies to this absolute load of crap? We had the rock climbing and groundbreaking knife to the eye. We had a brilliant villain with the incomparable Seymour Hoffman. Outstanding stunts and hilarious banter in ghost protocol, a fantastic addition with Rebecca Ferguson and finally the insane and unebelievable airplane stunt. How did they go from all that and end up here? The new characters add nothing, the plot was boring and predictable and I can't imagine watching another movie that concludes this mess. Time to remember what made MI movies great and return to its roots or throw the towel in here.
Younger (2015)
Miriam Shor Is The Best
Rewatching this series again and thoroughly enjoying Miriam's portrayal. Younger has so many things that differentiate from other series that make it an enjoyable watch. Filled with a lot of unique characters what really surprised me is how unlikely Diana Trout would end up a redeemable villain and yet they pull it off so well and Miriam Shor is the reason. The words may have been scripted, but every sentence was performed with different nuance and comedy. Truly such a joy to watch her although her story is mostly sub plot. I don't know if anyone could have played the part as well as she did. Love you Miriam!
The Idol (2023)
Sam Levinson Needs To Go To Therapy
If Euphoria wasn't enough to show the world that this man has issues than what is? They gave him another show and as before he played it out like some teenage boys spank bank. It's disgusting how the women in his shoes are used and treated like porn stars. It is obvious by the scenes that there is no understanding of the average woman's sexuality and needs focusing only on what gross men use to get off while on the internet. What a sad little man he is. Taking what is essentially male oriented porn than selling it as dark thought provoking drama will only do what the porn industry did, hurt and destroy young women in the world.
Undercover Underage (2021)
Amazing People Working On A Great Cause
Thanks you for all the work you're doing to not only take these predators off the street, but shine a light on how these depraved men work. So many are teachers which is devastating. You're providing information on tactics used by these men which in turn could quite possibly save a life. In some instances we catch a glimpse of the sacrifices you make with your family and although it's hard it is my firm belief that when they are older and realize what you are doing they will not only understand, but view you for what you (all) really are, a HERO. The work you're doing is so important. Best wishes moving forward and my ultimate thanks from a fellow mother.
Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets (2023)
Boring and nothing new
People who find this documentary informing must be living under a rock. The Scientology documentary was essentially the same thing, but at a larger level. We KNOW big religion is nothing more than a multi marketing machine. We know what happened to the Duggar's, nothing new is discovered in this series. The way the documentary was filmed and directed felt lack luster and redundant. One episode could easily encompass the story they were trying to tell. It is great that people have a chance to tell their stories however this documentary does little to convey the necessity of rooting out organizations like mega churches.
Ted Lasso: Signs (2023)
Have not laughed so hard at a show in ages
I didn't even finish the episode before wanting to leave a review. Only 12 minutes in and I have laughed so much. This episode has been delightful and witty. The characters continue to emulate fun positivity and humor within the story arcs. Ted Lasso is a series unlike any other, especially in these modern times. I was skeptical when they brought in the character Zava because I thought it would be another Jamie (season one) situation, but he continues to be a ray of sunshine and the interactions between him and the players are continuously (unbelievably) wholesome. If only all sports shows could change up the status quo, but one can only wish.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Great characters
I have not read the books, but I thoroughly enjoyed this series. After a few episodes it became apparent that the subplot was far more interesting than the main plot and I wasn't surprised to find they had their own book. Kaz and his crew are brought to life with excellent acting. Their interactions are far more entertaining and provide much needed humor. The actors portraying Alina and Mal are great too, but their story has been done to death and I lost interest pretty quickly. Even Nina's story although somewhat redundant itself was more enjoyable to watch than the Sun Summoner. Special effects are excellent for a Netflix series. Overall worth a watch!
Ghosts (2021)
So fun!
What a fun show! A little cheesy at times, but that is rare these days with all the over the top dramas and shock shows. It's fun to take a break and just relax without having to worry if the plot will leave me with apocalyptic anxiety. Every actor is perfectly cast for their role. My favorites (which is saying something since they're all great) are Jay and Hetty. After finishing all the episodes twice I tried to get into the BBC version. It had its moments, but I was done when they added the ghost voyeurism. I was curious how they could keep the stories fresh and delighted with the clever ways they added more ghosts and twists.
Black Adam (2022)
Fun to watch
Way too much CGI. Horrible ending fight scene with a distracting special effect creation of a bad guy, but it's still one of the better DC movies. The relationship between a kid and a super hero is always a fun take when building the story. A running joke throughout the movie reminded me of that and brought a spec of wholesomeness to several scenes. Fun extra super heroes with unique styles add to the wistfulness. It still had its dark moments, but overall it was enjoyable to watch. I wish DC would learn to stop overdoing it with the special effects. I was skeptical about Pierce Brosnan as the doctor strange character, but he did great!
Wonder Woman (2017)
The only good DC movie
It's no secret that one of DC's faults with bringing super heroes to life is relying heavily on CGI. This film is no exception, however it makes up for it in other ways. One of the only movies to have a specific theme score for the main character that's actually original and good. Likable, relatable, interesting characters. Exceptional performances and emotional editing. The fight scenes have a bit of CGI that is easy to get passed due to the fun and exciting actions scenes. Good fun humor. The villain feels a little forced and unbelievable. Still, it's an enjoyable watch and if only they had learned their lesson and stuck with what worked the sequel wouldn't have been a ridiculous failure.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
Waste of time
Plays out like a lame episode of the series, but without the heart. They elude to a villian of the past then when that is revealed it's a complete let down. If they were going to get all the actors to come back they could have at least used their talents. Instead they decided to add butts and f words. Not a big deal in my opinion, but it felt these additions were overcompensating, trying to show teen wolf had grown up. It didn't work. Not to mention teen wolf is hard enough to bring back without stiles, but the story was severely lacking. Crystal Robinson's return was the fuel, but the fire never ignited. One positive was the addition of Eli replacing the innocent Liam character.
The Cleaning Lady (2022)
Lose Oliver Hudson
A mothers love knows no bounds as she will do anything to survive and ensure the same for her ailing son. The disregard for people due to their nationality and poverty is highlighted frequently throughout the series so my question is why cast Oliver Hudson as the climb out of the gutter good guy/bad guy? Nepotism at its finest this one dimensional actor takes away all authenticity the other actors bring to the screen. His lack of talent and the horribly written character make for poor watching leading me to skip forward whenever he appears. Now if they killed him off and brought in an actual FBI contender this show could really take off. Maybe his partner played by Esodie Geiger could take this roll on? I'd watch that in a heartbeat, but as long as Hudson's in that role it will been limited as is his ability to act.
Room (2015)
Feel The Humanity
What a testament to motherhood. The story does a great job highlighting the mundane and the deep rooted battles mothers feel when raising children all while inside a horrible kidnapping situation. While watching this movie you can't help thinking about the similar true story. Your heart aches for Brie's character, but her devotion to her child shines through and you respect everything about her. Her courage, her fortitude, the will to continue because she will not abandon her child which was conceived in the worst possible way. She gave it all she had to try and get her child out and then continued to fight for him. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with a more heroic character.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Boooooooooored!!
It had every potential to be entertaining and I gave it the benefit of the doubt, but seven episodes in and I am over it. How many times must it be time for Daemon to 'come home'? And where are the dudes eyebrows? Every time there's a close up it's all I can think about. Maybe I missed the back story? Maybe that's the plot I should follow to be more interested in the show? Other than that the characters are shallow, uninteresting and just plain boring. However when you have GOT to compare to, not much can do better. Very disappointing. How this has such a high rated IMDB score is beyond me. RIP GOT.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Yes Yes YES YES
There is so much to love about this movie. Definitely one of the better marvels, much better than anything DC puts out. Open your heart and watch it and feel like a kid again. Love and Thunder will pluck at those heartstrings, but only if you got 'em.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
What a dumb piece of crap
The maturity level of these filmmakers shows through as they put into the world a vile, unnecessary zombie flick with very little zombie. The characters were already pre built from the previous franchise and that still couldn't add any value to this film. There is nothing worth seeing in this picture. Stay away.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
The Unbearable Weight Of This Movie
Lacked substance. Cheap redundant action scenes and predictable plot was expected however there was hope for some comedy which was not delivered. It was flat out boring. Cannot find anything redeeming about this movie. Wish I could get that time of my life back that I wasted watching this movie.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
AMAZING!!
You feel a Count of Monte Cristo level of satisfaction with each person getting their just desserts. So well written. So well acted, I don't know if anyone other than Carey Mulligan could have played the part. She was fantastic. I held off watching this for so long because I thought it would be hard to watch, even though I really wanted to see it. So glad I finally did.
'Am...Am...Am... I going to go to jail?' CLASSIC!
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Of course this is pure crap
Anything backed by Ben Shapiro is. Don't need to see it for what it is. Shame on everyone involved in this ridiculous display of realistic violence. People have lost their children because of privileged Ben Shapiro like kids having temper tantrums. Good for those of the crew who walked out. Good on you for have morals.
Hart of Dixie (2011)
I love coming back to Bluebell!
Just finished the final episode for the fifth time. Hart of Dixie is so much of what the world needs right now. An escape with fun quirky characters who have flaws but warm hearts. I don't think another season is necessary, they did such a good job wrapping up the show, but I wish there was more!! For all the first time watchers I envy you.
Dune (2021)
Not at all worth the hype
I liked the plot, but every scene from the previews that made you want to see the movie were simply 1 second durations of Paul's foreshadowing visions. The actual movie consists of 1 dimensional acting, confusing sentences that are meant to be deep philosophical sayings such as 'too shower you scrub your ass with sand' and way too many stereotypical sci-fi shots (space ships landing, walking off spaceships, less than impressive dramatic landscapes, and lens flares over people's faces). This is not meant to offend fans of the book, but the movie is sub-par as a motion picture and the 8.3 rating laughable.
Legacies (2018)
I can't go anymore
Huge fan of TVD and OG and I really tried for this one, but I can't do anymore. It's so bad and confusing. The only consistency is it's redundant plot. Every episode is the same! No character arc for anyone at all. I wanted it to be good, but I just can't anymore, I just CAN'T!
Cruella (2021)
The Only Live Action Disney Movie Worth Watching!
Watch it and appreciate it for what it is. Fun take on a famous Disney character that leaves you wanting more.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I just couldn't......
Gal Gadot was the perfect Wonder Woman. The 80's was an excellent choice for plot setting. Giving Kristen Wiig a character in a comic book film was an excellent idea. The movie? Absolutely horrendous. The person I went to see it with wanted to see the end, and it just kept getting worse. DC needs to take a break and get it together.
