Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War: Institutional Insanity (2024)
Ignored Verona Evidence of Communist Spy's
This episode completely ignored Venona Project surveillance evidence and subsequent investigation of Comintern files in Moscow which verified Communist infiltration of the United States government. The U. S. intelligence service had broken the Soviet's message code and was able to identify Americans that were spying. Later, when the Soviet Union fell, investigators were given access to the Communist Party of the United States files in Moscow and corroborated data. Further a major Soviet spy had kept a written record of his dealings with American collaborators. Authors of a number of books revealing the identity of Communist spies were able to use these three sources to identify and verify spying, especially by the Rosenbergs. To completely ignore this evidence totally invalidates the testimony of the obviously biased California Professors in this episode. Just shameful.
The Biggest Little Farm (2018)
Where is the cost/benefit analysis?
Waited with great anticipation for the analysis of the cost of creating this fantasyland versus the financial benefit but money was never even mentioned. So this is just another liberal utopia dream not based in reality. It's a money-losing entertainment venue that will eventually wither on the vine, pun intended.it basically took seven years before they were able to prevent everything from dying so they were probably losing money for seven years. A net present value calculation where you need seven years of investment is not going to be attractive enough to justify other farmers to emulate this model.
There Was a Crooked Man... (1970)
Absurd Plot, Progressive Narrative
Saw this on TCM. This is an example of how the Progressives weave their narrative into a script. However, it resulted in a totally absurd plot and ridiculous characters. The most absurd part is the breakout from the prison. The guards could have easily quelled the riot in the cafeteria and in the prison yard, but the writers have the guards running around nonsensically. The fight in the cafeteria reminded me of the food fight in Animal House and they threw in a visiting School Teacher running around in her underwear. All of the white males in the movie, including the warden Henry Fonda, were evil, scheming, lusting, greedy white devils who are presented as members of the white male patriarchy. As with all Marxist driven narratives, the Protestant clergy were depicted as charlatans whose only interest was in scheming and cheating people out of their money. I'm sure that TCM's Mankiewicz was proud of his father's propaganda film although, strangely, he didn't introduce it.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Amazing Special Effects but an Awful Script
Everything supporting the script was excellent and fascinating but the script is just laughable.
Looney Clooney, who stars and directs the film, shows how he earned the nickname. For some strange reason, he decided to include in a major role a mysterious 8 year old girl who refuses to speak to him. Particularly ludicrous was his ability to survive a dunking in freezing water without any shelter or dry clothes. And how did the gun survive? Most laughable was when Clooney was stumbling around in a whiteout blizzard and he squints his eyes and says:"This is the way". I could go on and on but you get the point. However, the special effects are really well done and it is worth watching from that aspect.
Into the Wild (2007)
A Life Lesson in a Nihilist's Path
This is a well crafted depiction of the short life of a nihilist and post modernist. The story was written by the main character's sister who clearly wanted to blame the parent's for his nihilistic outlook on life. But early on in the movie they identify the courses in social justice that Chris took that greatly influenced his view of life. At the time that this movie was made, it was not commonly known that the university culture had been taken over by the post modernists. Chris was one of its many victims.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Not a True Story
Watched two episodes, assuming it was a biography, and loved them. I come from a family of chess players and my younger brother has had a ranking over 2000 and won a number of various championships. As with the main character, he is able to play chess games in his mind but without the aid of drugs. After the second episode, I searched and discovered that this is not a true story. In fact, I learned much to my dismay that no female has ever been world champion. My reaction is that this might support the position of those who believe men are intellectually superior to women. Very disturbing.
Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller (2020)
Reparation Justification for Scamming America's Elderly Falls Flat
The episode detailing the scamming "business" in Jamaica and Israel was informative and very well done up until Ms. Van Zeller decided to inject some misguided social justice propaganda into the episode. After completing her investigation into the Israeli investment scammers, she abruptly switched back to the Jamaican scammers and led them to justify their illegal behavior by citing reparations for their years of slavery. What she failed to mention is that the slavery in Jamaica was controlled by the British colonists not Americans.
