Alice (2000)
Physically and emotionally disturbing...
Really because American McGee is a mysterious director to this project and how he has hand crafted the wonderful Alice in Wonderland, or Alice through the looking glass novels and movies is quite disturbing.
Alice is an excellent game. Her character has been superbly created with the best graphics on offer in the year 2000, it still does not look outdated now. The story is excellent and there is no wonder why Hollywood may be in talks of making a movie. The dialogue is excellent, which has been written to the best of the writers abilities. The voices are superb too, the girl who does the voice of Alice has not done anything before or after this, so it may make some of us wonder whether or not she was disturbed too.
But throughout all this, what we should be looking at is how Alice has gone crazy. Her parents have been killed in a house fire, and her world falls apart. Look at what pictures you can from the novel and the movie made from Disney and compare it to the sets and character designs of this game and it is truly quite disturbing. There is blood on the walls, floors and ceilings, beautiful lakes have turned into lava pits, the mad hatter has of course "gone quite mad", the Cheshire cat which was previously chubby and had stripes, still has its grin, but has rotted down to skin and bone and instead of using his wit to tease Alice, he uses dark riddles to help our character throughout the game.
It doesn't matter what year this was made in, buy this game it is truly a work of art.
Il fantasma dell'opera (1998)
The worst movie I have ever seen
I was looking for the movie The Phantom of the Opera with Robert Englund starring as the Phantom, and I accidentally mixed this up with the one I was looking for. I immediately realised it was a mix up when I saw that Robert Englund was not in the list of people starring in the movie, but I shrugged it off and decided to continue watching it.
How I wish I hadn't... this is simply the worst movie ever created. The acting is appalling, horrible dialogue, terrible music, embarrassing to every actor who had to work in this mess. What I am even more curious about is why none of the actor's realise how terrible this was going to be and try and give in some advice. Nope, they only thought that this was a job and they need the money, well trust me, I would have gone without food for four weeks as long as I didn't have to watch this again.
Please just make sure that when you're looking for a movie, CHECK FOR WHO IS STARRING IN IT before you decide to watch it. I'm never taking chances like this again. AVOID LIKE THE BLACK PLAGUE!
Faust: Love of the Damned (2000)
In ways I liked it, but in others I did not
I saw this in the video store a couple of times and I thought it looked like a good movie but I never took it home until a week ago. I started watching it and found it quite good at the beginning but then it came down to the IMDb rating of 4.1. I'll give you what was good and what wasn't about it but this may ruin the whole movie for you. The gore was bad, and I mean really bad, you see body parts flying off which you can buy in a joke shop and in no way looked real. Every time Faust started fighting some lame rock music would come on and the fight scenes would only last for like 30 seconds which were not very well choreographed. Faust's costume was rubbish too, those antenna's on his head wiggled every time he moved his head which showed how fake it was. Especially with his cloak, it looked like something the costume designers had cut out from an old raincoat. Mark Frost looked good when he was supposed to be insane, but then when you realise he's not crazy and he's supposed to be the big hero, he really doesn't look very good. He doesn't give the watchers much respect for Faust, when he like running down the train he looks quite stupid. Maybe if he would have moved straight way up and killing anything that even tried anything would him, that would have being alright. "I wanted you from the moment I saw you" says Jade de Camp to Mark Frost, when she first saw him he was tied up in a stray jacket in complete silence, this girl has a strange taste in men. They made Jade go nuts on the table which made her character lose all self dignity and made her look like a complete idiot which was embarrassing to watch. There is one particular scene where M is making his, let's say exotic wife driven into lust, which made me feel so sick that I went off my dinner and breakfast the next morning.
But here's an advantage which I liked about this movie, and that was Andrew Divoff, I have wanted to see him in the wishmaster but have not been so lucky. Then when I heard he was in this I was pretty excited and when watching this he was as cool and fantastic as all his fans make out. He's the one thing that did make me watch this two more times, avoiding certain scenes though. OK, there are more disadvantages than advantages but either way, if I don't see anything else good in the store (which I should hope will have a small chance) I will be renting this again. All in all, 5 or 6/10.
Aliens (1986)
The Terminator crew take a chance at making the sequel to the Legendary Alien and... it's a success
I do not know exactly how this movie became so successful, not that I am complaining I love this movie to bits. One thing I do love about this movie is that it takes place straight after the incident in the first Alien movie and it does not block out any of the other characters, so that they are not forgotten. Also with it being in the future they don't go nuts with technology that will really drive you nuts (Spy Kids, Minority Report etc). There seems to be most of the well known actors coming from the Terminator Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton and the bishop guy, sorry can't remember the name and Jennifer Goldstein seems to want to join in and is seen in the sequel of Terminator 2. Sigourney Weaver comes back as Ripley, but seems to have more bravery when she meets a young girl called Newt and goes to all measures to see that she is safe. It is great seeing the characters develop and seeing the fantastic sets that is made for the Alien nests, but it still raises some questions though like why sometimes do they take peeps to the nests instead of killing them and vice versa. Either way fantastic movie, 8 out of 10 or 5 stars out of 5
Deep Blue Sea (1999)
Really, really scary
*SPOILERS ALERT*
5 years ago this came out and I was just starting to like horror movies, ever since Jaws I was a bit jumpy at shark movies and was even scared for being a in a bath for too long (I was 10 by the way). Me and my cousin sit down to watch this and immediately we're were scared, I hated it with LL cool J getting trapped in the oven and when Samuel got a surprise shark attack, and then it didn't make it any easier when my cousin locked me in the room by myself with it still on. Even now I still have it and I love it, it is seriously a class A horror movie with fantastic acting, wonderful special effects and intense story line. But for some reason this movie made me OK to have a bath without getting scared anymore, either way, watch it, you won't regret it. 4 and a half stars.
