Meander (2020)
Ignore the reviews - nothing like the cube!
I love all the cube movies and thought this was going to be rip off as well. I was pleasantly surprised. This action/suspense started very quickly and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The acting was fantastic. I felt her claustrophobia, hopelessness , pain but ultimately her will to survive. My friends and I were constantly questioning the who, what and why. Then when the pirate looking skull robot appeared I laughed imagining aliens trying to "appear more human/personable" attaching a human skull to a robot eye. Even though there are "aliens", I continued to wonder if she was in hell. She was being tortured emotionally, mentally and physically and at different points her captures seem to "help" her continue their tests/games? Her "daughter" tells her they are rooting for her?
There were so many twists and turns and I loved it. It definitely kept my attention and left me wanting more. Even at the end I had the feeling it wasn't truly over and hope they will continue with another movie.
I'm not sure why there are so many low ratings. I'm guessing they didn't watch the movie and/or don't like movies that make you "think" or look past surface details. People who hate this movie probably love Steven Segal movies. :P So please ignore the bad reviews.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2019)
Wish it was better
I love AYAOTD but since the reboot they do these mini series on the same story and it just seems to drag on.
I wish they were an anthology series again and had more episodes. I really wanted to love this season. We started out so excited but after the 2nd or 3rd episode we lost interest.
To leave on a positive note I will say the graphics are great.
Scoob! (2020)
Wanted to love it....
We were so excited to watch this movie. We talked about it for weeks. We had a mix of kids and adults who all love Scooby Doo and like a lot of others said the first ten minutes or so were great. I think I may have even teared up at one point....then everything just fell flat. I started noticing that we were all talking throughout the movie as it didn't seem to hold anyone's attention. Half way through I made the comment that we would watch it again tomorrow because I had missed parts of it.
Well...I watched it again with my 13 year old and nope...I didn't miss anything. The story was just all over the place and it wasn't interesting. Even the voices sounded wrong. Why would you have Frank Welker do Scooby instead of Fred????!! And replacing the voice of Shaggy and Velma too?? They may have felt slighted but will probably be relieved if they watch the movie. So many things were wrong. I feel like they asked for story lines and said yes to everyone one. It was a mishmash of action stories with absolutely no mystery.
I liked the throw back to the Hana Barbera cartoons but in doing so they changed them. I missed the original blue falcon and his dynomutt. The older version had Blue Falcon as serious (yet nice) and dynomutt was dumb but so lovable. It was their dichotomy that made their relationship special. Now Blue Falcon is idiotic and dynomutt just comes off as rude. At least Muttley still had the same wheezing laugh.
This movie could have been so good. The only positive was the animation. I'm sure younger kids who have never seen Scooby Doo might like it but I feel like I wasted 25.00.
It (2017)
Sad remake of a great movie.
Yes I have seen the original but this is just sad. First off why do these kids have to cuss every other word. It is so beyond over the top and even my teenager commented on how much the kids cussed.
The movie wasn't scary and it really does feel like scenes just put together. I didn't feel a connection with the characters at all.
Actors are good - the plot just falls flat. Maybe it's because they had to cram so much into one movie? Oh well I wasted 15.00 buying the movie.
Monsters (2010)
Great picture for $15k but no action....or monsters....really
I don't want to rate this film as awful because from what I read the budget was $15,000 so for that amount of money yes it is a visually appealing film. HOWEVER the story line is long and drawn out and I don't know how in the hec it got a rating of 7 out of 10 stars. The photographer and his bosses daughter go from one village, hotel, city to another in Mexico in an attempt to capture a picture of the monster and arrive back home in the US safe. I watched this movie and fell asleep. My boyfriend turned it off and told me it was the most boring movie he had ever watched and that he and his friend had given up on anything happening. I was told I wasn't allowed to pick out movies anymore. In disbelief I watched it through (fast forwarding at points) until their were scenes where I thought surely I would see a monster or have some action.....and I waited....oh...wait...maybe........no.....just another jungle scene.... I literally sat there a couple of times and said out loud Monster......? No....no monster as my boyfriend played Halo and laughed at me for trying to make this movie work somehow. In my mind there just had to be more. There is however one part at the end where you see the light up octopi. At that point the movie was almost over and I didn't give a !@#@ anymore...the only part that made me feel nervous was when they went to the deserted town in the US area and I thought for sure they were going to get bombed.....Bomb?....no...no bomb either.
