Chashme Baddoor (2013)
One time watch
Review : Chasme Baddoor
Making my way from one theater to another in search of tickets landed me up finally at at multiplex. With only a few people standing outside the box office, I was pretty assured to find a ticket for myself. I realized , the movie will only manage to earn from single screens, like every small budget movie does.
The movie begins with Omi played by Divyendu Sharma reciting couple of witty but lascivious poetry at the college function which manages to grab some applause from the audience before and behind the screen. Siddharth aka Jai is a wannabe actor and the college audition scene is one of the funniest scenes of the movie. Sid played by Ali Zafar is a physics student who is a nerd and often finds himself mashed up between the sporadic jests and petty fights between the rest two friends. Their lives take a U-turn when the three of them try to woo a girl who comes to stay nearby.
With excessive drollery and puns , the movie almost becomes predictable and hence by the end of the first part, things start to push you to boredom. The one liners are almost clichés and rip offs from text messages anagram-ed to give them a fresh feel. But fail at times. Divyendu Sharma certainly saves the movie. Siddharth's acting is disappointing , overshadowed by his drollery which will often remind you of Tushar Kapoor's characters in Comedy movies. The script and screenplay is subpar and at times edges senselessness.
This movie does manage to tickle your funny bones but good for only a one time watch with friends. If not for the sake of a good story or sort, at least you can share a good laugh with your friends at the puns and lewd gestures that the characters make on screen. After all, 'har ek friend Kamina hota hai.' 2 / 5 P.S. If you have watched the Classic Chasme Baddoor of the 80's, you'll be disappointed watching this remake.
The Attacks of 26/11 (2013)
Good but Flawed !
The Attacks of 26/11 :
Its almost been years since the horrific attack on Mumbai had shook the nation and the world with the audacity by which a bunch of terrorists created homicide carrying AK 47 rifles and plenty of explosives. The wounds of that attack on humanity was still healing, and that's when the maverick and gutsy movie director Ram Gopal Varma sneaked into the Taj Hotel along with then CM Vilasrao Deshmukh and Riteish Deshmukh.
People never had the second thoughts over his sheer intentions at visiting the terror-hit places, and much to their belief 4 and half years later Ramu has come with a riveting docu-drama showing the scale at which the attacks were carried out in detail.
Although the movie itself is a replica of what had happened back then, but one can easily say the scenes were highly 'Bollywoodized' and looked pretentious. The first half of the movie is stern and inexorable. Thanks to some good background score, and stunning screenplay , some scenes leave you numb.
The movie however struggles with the pace. The first half almost grips you up with the sheer inquisitiveness but the second half somewhat looked a little phoney .
Nana Patekar as usual has acted par excellence. A perfect blend of grim and frustration could be seen in his palette of expressions. The movie is less of a direct tale of the series of incidents that happened and more of a book of stories sequined with morals and religious explanations to various misconceptions. Good !
Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday is still one of my favorite movies to have been made on terrorism. Although not made for everyone because of the gruesome scenes and raw violence, I would still suggest to watch this movie.
2.5/5 Looking forward to Satya 2 !
