Mademoiselle de Joncquières (2018)
A decent film
The film is beautifully crafted. I enjoyed every single color palette and the perspective chosen in every scene. Although the plot is a little predictable, it very much suits the reality of the characters and where they lived in. I loved the concept of a subtle revenge and karma. That everything you did will always get back at you one way or another.
Also, I don't know if it's a language barrier or what. But I think it's genius how in the end we never really get to know the characters' first names. It gave a feeling of watching this from a distance which I must say differentiate the film from the others with similar plots.
Maniac (2018)
A cool series that gives you a breath of fresh air
I love how they ended it. It's such a bliss of fun and happiness. It's like I don't know what will happen to them, but I'm just so happy for them for that moment--they deserve it.
The series started out a bit slowly. As it progresses, we started to puzzle the whole picture of the characters and their stories. We grow to love the unique qualities of the characters and how they have evolved through all these.
I would love for them to give some more about the other Odds, just wish they weren't there just to fill the seat and be some weird personalities. And if there were more details on why Owen was able to save everyone and how can Annie and Owen be connected that would be great. Anyway, I guess leaving it as something that cannot be explained also worked.
La casa de papel (2017)
Great Ride. Must Watch.
Wow! It was such a journey for me. I have been wanting to watch this since the very first trailer came out, but life got in the way and it has to be put off for later. I deeply appreciate that since now I have two seasons and it kept me bingeing all the way to the end. I loved how this is a well thought-out plan and how there are love stories all around. It wasn't too much that it became soapy, but just enough to keep you cheering for the characters. It was so well portrayed that-just like what the Professor wanted them to be-I felt they were real heroes and I really do wish everything ends well for all of them. A part of me hoped they would continue to the running out of the country part and what happen next in all of their lives, but another part can't help but want to leave it all like that so it would never really end. I just thank God and everyone involved that gave us this. It has been an emotional ride, an unforgettable one.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
The old story nicely retold by another cultural perspective
The story itself goes in a way totally predictable, yet there is this sense you get when you root for someone and, although you know they are going to end up together anyway, can't help but enjoy the journey they brought us into. It's quite refreshing to watch probably because the movie took us into the world we think we already know, like Princess Diaries, and adding the confidence and intelligence to the main female lead. It's inspiring for girls in the sense that women can live smart and independently and we might as well still get the guy in the end.
Also, kudos to the cast and crew for proving an all Asian movie can still make it to the top!
Adrift (2018)
Nice film
A heart-moving film that takes you through what's happening through the mind of a person who's been stranded on a boat. How she relived her own memories-drowned in them.
Beautiful visuals and realistic sceneries. Good chemistry between the leads and just right timing.
