Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
I hate this movie!!
I really, really do. Not cause it's bad, boring or pointless. Quite the opposite. It's because it makes me think and because it's so good in achieving what it aims to.
On the surface it's an action comedy flick about middle-aged mother struggling with her everyday life and connection that she's rapidly losing with her daughter. All in the pseudo sci-fi theme of multiverse.
But that's just the surface.
I may be overinterpreting but I see Everything Everywhere All at Once as a trifold... For one, and most of all, a story about depression, struggling with one's identity and acceptance among those who should give it unconditionally. And depression is a difficult thing to live with. Diagnosed or not, it often holds a stigma of an excuse and some of those who lack empathy to comprehend its meaning tend to dismiss it as everything else other than it really is. And then there's also a theme of a change. That no matter how grounded we are in our beliefs, our outlook on life and rules the World is guided with, we should never stop questioning them and looking at every situation from all available angles. Because perhaps, what we consider good, right and appropriate may very well be precisely opposite and just not visible from the bubble of our perception that we're locking ourselves in. And last but not least, it's about dropping all the prejudices, all the opinions based on what we heard, read or saw and just making our own. Based on how things really are and not how they're depicted by others (or even media, but that's more of my observation than what's in the movie). After all, most people are good people who just made the wrong turn, willingly or otherwise, somewhere in their life and even though they may appear to be bad or beyond saving but hardly ever it is the case. One just needs to leave one's own comfort behind and just make that extra effort.
So yeah, I hate this movie because of what it did to me. But I also love it for what it may do, what it may mean, if more people would see it. And even if only some of them will take that extra minute or two, to try to understand what they really saw afterwards and reflect. It will be a success. For humanity.
How It Ends (2021)
One scene of a movie
The movie is a wild ride through dozens of various scenes with odd and quirky characters that sadly either are not very interesting or straight up boring. The It's always sunny in Philadelphia folks were a highlight but other than that most supporting cast were not very good. Don't get me wrong How it Ends can be watched beginning to an end but it's pretty disappointing and I wouldn't advice investing time in it.
I was about to give it 3 star rating because of all the above but that one freaking scene on the beach lifts it up to 5 in my books. That said, it's not worth going through all of it for that one scene and I won't be rewatching the movie ever. Period.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Bruce, Bruce, Bruce...
Famously a pillar of good action/sci-fi genre Bruce Willis seems to be doing someone a huge favor here. Cause other than that there is no reason for him to be in this trainwreck of a movie in any capacity. In all honest I was struggling to stay awake while watching this monstrosity. And as much as some movies are so bad that they're actually ironically good. This one's just plain bad. 2/10 - will never watch again.
The Right Kind of Wrong (2013)
Not your ordinary romantic comedy...
The Right Kind of Wrong is an unusual film...
It takes a lot from common clichés that we're used to understanding as typical romantic comedies but it builds upon it and presents it in a novel yet interesting way. The main protagonist is not a common well behaved steady earning good boy that we're grown to expect from this genre. On the contrary - he is a broken man with a joke for a career, no ambitions and plenty of other weaknesses to top that up. The girl however... Well, she's equally humane. :) And that's about it when it comes to things worth knowing about the flick. It's not the genre nor the cast that will make you enjoy watching it - it's just the fact that all the characters are so "real" and not over the top smoothed out for Hollywood role models. As the title suggests the right things about the movie are all the wrong ones and that's what makes it a definite watch!
Prometheus Trap (2012)
How not to make a movie for $5,000...
It's not a coincidence that Prometheus Trap came out same year critically acclaimed Prometheus did. But it had to be a mistake having a budget of around $500,000 for it. I mean it looks as if it was all recorded inside a walk-in freezer using early 80's computers as props and a slightly failing smoke machine. Special effects look like my failed attempts at basically anything in 3D Studio Max or Blender and I failed for free. Acting is average at best and even though the basic story line is not terrible (although I'm far from saying that it was any good) the execution lacked in all areas and the flick ended up being just plain boring. I'd avoid it at all cost if I wasn't so bored beyond belief that I had to resort myself to watching all straight-to-DVD crap this coming Xmas season...
The One Warrior (2011)
Some movies are just not meant to be made...
The One Warrior is not a movie/film. Oh no, sir, it is not. It's an experience. And not a pleasant one I might add. Even though I've wasted nearly two hours watching this piece of garbage it felt as if it was much more and I'd rather sit through two hours of fiery diarrhea than watch it ever again.
The plot was... Well, there was no real plot as to speak of, more like a collection of random, senseless and badly acted out events with no solid story to back it up. With $50 and a semi-good web cam anyone could make a better flick.
Would give it 0/10 but since I cannot it's 1/10. And it's not an earned 1 either.
