Batwoman (2019)
A fantastic addition to the Arrow-verse
With Arrow ending this year the Arrow-verse is in a serious need of a show that shows the dark and gritty side of the DCU, Batwoman IS that show.
As a pilot episode goes Batwoman was pretty good. The unfortunate need to get Kate Kane in a bat suit as soon as possible reduced the time we could of had on a back story. I would love to have seen more of her training and the use of her investigation skills, but instead we got a back story about an old love interest.
Using a kidnapped ex as the motivation for Kate to come back to Gotham is a bit drab and would have been better served if it was the father that needed saving instead.
As for some people distilling this show down to 'lesbian biker with anger issues', your just wrong. A friend of mine did say that Batwoman was going to bring the worst of our community out In a rage, I say they were never part of it in the first place.
I can't wait to see how this how this show will progress and what stories we will get to see in the future. It's also a point to make that what we see now may not be what we get after episode 9 as 'crisis' will have an effect on the whole Arrow-verse.
Worth a watch,
Jax Blaze
Time Trap (2017)
Spoilers in the Title
The first thing i have to say is, "Change the name of the movie!). What could have been a sci-fi mystery is given away before the film even starts.
After decades of them being missing, Hooper finds the remains of his parents camper-van by a cave in the desert. He decides to go exploring in the cave to see what he can find only to go missing himself. A few days later two of Hooper's students (Jackie and Taylor), Cara (Taylor's not girlfriend), Cara's little sister Veeves and her friend Furby go out to find him.
Arriving at the site they find both Hooper's truck and the camper-van, The group decide to look around and what they find was a diary. inside tells the story of Hoppers parents and his dying little sister and the search for the fountain of youth to save her. The young group of adventures decide to go looking for their teacher in the cave and that's when it all goes wrong.
What follows could have been a fantastic sci-fi mystery about a group being hunted by an unknown evil in the dark, becomes a wait for the casts to work out what we all know.
The film is very good and didn't I was enjoyed what was presented and in my opinion should have had more publicity.
I happily recommend this film to anyone,
Jax Blaze.
Game Theory (2011)
It's Only a Theory, a Game Theory. My Theory Is You Will Love It.
"Game Theory" is a YouTube show created and starring Matthew Patrick (a Diet Coke addicted band geek). The premise of the show is to take scientific principles and apply them to video games. How fast is Sonic? How high can Mario jump? Will FNAF ever end? All these questions and more will be answered (except the FNAF one, come on Scott). This show is Funny, smart, informative and suitable for most ages. Matthew Is a fantastic host and make some very complicated maths a little more accessible and fun.
I first found "Game Theory" in late 2012 whilst stuck in a lift at work during a power cut. I spent over two hours in that lift and "Game Theory" made a big part of that fly by (I also had a small nap, a paid nap at that). from that point on I was a regular viewer.
I cant recommend this show enough,
Jax Blaze.
The Banana Splits Movie (2019)
It's Bananas. A True B-Movie Horror.
It's 2019 and "The Banana Splits Show" is still on the air, the cast and costumes have been replaced by animatronics and all is well. When Harley parents get him audience tickets for a recording his favourite show, Harley is over the moon at the chance to meet his hero "Snorky". The shows recording goes off without a hitch, But backstage is another story. The show has been cancelled, Steve is getting drunk, the animatronics update hasn't worked and the Producer is having a breakdown. After filming, selected members of the audience are invited to meet the stars of the show and that's when it all goes wrong. Rampaging robots, overly pushy parents, two social media tools and a family with issues all come together in a bloody mess. Who will survive and will it affect the rating of the show?
I used to love "The Banana Splits" as a child so watching this when visiting my mother was a must. Not reading the description made everything that followed was a complete shock. More like "Five Nights at Freddie's" than "The Monkees" I did enjoy this film, and as long as you don't take it too seriously so will you. Watching loving character from my childhood going full Jason Voorhees was hilarious and confusing, to say the least. The costumes look fantastic and the range of deaths are genuinely gruesome. This is one of those films that you will sit well among your B-Movie collection alongside "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" or "Critters". I just can't wait for the inevitable facebook posts about parents putting this on for their kids not knowing what is waiting for them.
I am defiantly watching this again and will be pulling it out on those drunken retro nights with friends.

The Happytime Murders (2018)
Its the Muppets, if it were written by Tray Parker and Matt Stone
Not being a fan of Melissa McCarthy i was going to give this film a miss and i'm so happy i didn't. When the cast members of a popular kids puppet show from the 90's start turning up dead, its down to the detective brother of one of the stars to sort it out.
Phil Phillips is an ex street cop and now Privet Detective that down on his luck. After finding out that his brother along with a number of other cast members from a popular 90's kids show have been murdered, Phil teams up with his ex partner on the Police Force to solve the case and get justice.
Along the way you will see and hear things involving muppets that will change the memories of your past and make you ask, "What did go on backstage at the 'Muppet Show'.
I can't recommend this show enough,
Jax Blaze
Final Space (2018)
DON'T be fooled by the comedy. This show WILL break your HEART.
Final Space is a show about the sole human inmate ( Gary Goodspeed) on a prison ship in space, His only companions are H.U.E the ships AI, KVN (Gary's Deep Space Insanity Avoidance Companion), a large number S.A.M.E.S. (Synthetic Artificial Masses Erecting Safeness) identical robots that defend and repair the prison ship and finally Garry's pet space blob Mooncake (a planet and universe killing uber weapon).
As Gary Goodspeed enters the last few days of his isolated prison sentence on the 'Galaxy One' , his only problem was the lack of cookies and his announce of KVN. No one likes KVN. This all changed when Gary found a small green space blob called Mooncake, But it wont take you long to realise there is a lot more to this overly cute emerald mass. Shortly after bringing Mooncake on board the 'Galaxy One' is attacked by bounty hunters that results in Gary capturing an anthropomorphic cat named Avocato. Then to round off the team when the 'Galaxy One' crew save the love of Gary's life 'Quinn Ergon' (a rouge Captain of the Infinity Guard).
Once together the Galaxy One crew discover an evil plot to corrupt the Infinity Guard and s strange link to Mooncake and Gary's past. Along the way Avocato will rescue his kidnapped son, Quinn will discover herself to a new extreme, Gary will find friendship, love and heartbreak, The crew will meet Bolo (a Titan from a race of cosmic beings seemingly born for the soul purpose to infect the universe with chaos.)
As funny as Red Dwarf and the emotional range of Orange is the New Black. this show will disguise its self as a background comedy, then it will have you crying into your hot chocolate. One of the best shows on Netflix and well worth your time.
Jax Blaze.
The Tick (2016)
Almost Perfect: But will an Amazon only pilot kill it
Peter Serafinowicz as "The Tick"! This is a bad joke right? How could he fill the broad shoulders of destiny? And how would he be better than Patrick Warburton and the 2001 series?
So I sat down ready to the full geek tear-down, Picking at everything that was wrong or not as good as the 90's cartoon or the live action TV show from 2001. Needless to say i wasn't expecting much from this 30 minute pilot, But after the "Woop" had finished and my brain adjusted to a darker tone than any previous incarnation of "The Tick" I was transfixed. Griffin Newman as Arthur Everest and the or "realistic" take on this world and its characters was just perfect. In the past Arthur's reasons for being a hero was flat to be fair. He was just a bored accountant who wanted to do more with his life, The change in motivation for the character just worked and just the tone for the overall comedy and narrative style.
Another worry i had was with Peter Serafinowicz was playing the tick, This in my head it just didn't make any sense, He just isn't built to take on the suit. The Tick was the embodiment of the 90's comic book characters, Big "Bisley-esk" Beasts of men, all muscle and mass. Patrick Warburton (AKA Joe Swanson family guy) was the whole package for the job and still is in my view. Sad to say once we actually got some real screen time with "The Tick" my worries were sort of validated. Let be clear on this as I love Peter Serafinowicz and I have always thought should get more recognition and screen time, But not this. I got over the size change relatively quickly but he made "The Tick" too smart and insightful in his delivery. If you know the previous incarnations you will know he could be beaten at a game of breathing by a bag of rocks.
This all being said by the time the show had finished I wanted more, I worry this show will get overlooked with it being on "Amazon" and that it's going to get more views by people watching it on free to use stream sites.
