NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: IRL (2019)
Leroy Jetro "mr Miyagi" Gibbs
In this episode those of us who enjoy the cool Gibbs qualities and the humour that follows will have a really good time.
This is season 17, but: Those who were once young are now more mature but "young" can also be a question of connections and what you do with your time. Gibbs shows us how it's done like a MacGyver who knows how to use what he has got at hand. Others will realise that peeking at something is not the same as really being into something. But there's a solution for that.
It's not an episode for those who get their buzzes from action but it is for those who like the humorous, likable (oooh, this word!), good natured and very differing group of people who make up the set of characters in NCIS-with Gibbs really at the centre (getting rare that).
There's one scene with Gibbs and the kid, Phineas, that could become a real Gibbs classic. I laughed and laughter is good and disarming, don't you think?
Laugh some and get ready for a feel-good-episode with some silent Gibbswisdom. No Gibbsrules though, I miss them, we'll have to make do with some light (?!) rulebreaking and this new younger older Gibbs that can ask for help. Can you imagine!?
Summary: It's a kind of (Leroy) Jethro "mr Miyagi" Gibbs episode!
See it, best on a connection that is not lagging, folks! *wink*
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Catching but not action-catching
I just saw the whole thing in two days. It's probably best to watch the sereies in a binge keeping all balls flying so to speak.
I asked myself if this is really a horror and decided it's more a "psychological drama" that uses moments of horror and the horror that comes wiith the supernatural.. Is the supernatural actually an image for internal ghosts? Are there many layers to this or is it just me that has been dragged so deep into the story that I have moved into that domain?
The one who wants to be scared and jump from being startled will have only a few of those and only if you are cautght by the persons. I was very caught and I posed millions of questions wanting to know what was going on. By the way, this is not one of those where you can look at the last chapter and still enjoy the thing. Because much of what I enjoyed came from sitting in front of the screen and trying to figure out wha was going on.
Sometimes it is a little too slow paced for my taste but having said that I immediately think that part of the search for answeres would have died without the information continously hinted in monologues and dialogues.
I can understand why those who hated this did so, actually. If you are not caught up with the questions floating around and rather want to be just scared then look for something else. But if you like those kind of questions and the quest inside then, yes, see this! I'm happy that I did and I think I will ask myself a couple of more before I let this story go. But an inner investment is necessary to really enjoy and there are details to keep track on to really be dragged deep into this so it's not the moment to text friends while watching.
I write this just minutes after seeing the ending and I am yet to decide if I like the ending. Sorry about that. I liked the storytelling because it firmly hooked me. The actors convinced me. There are some things that felt like it was repeating itself but that just might have been intended (?) Lighting, filming and those things... it's good enough to convey the story efficiently but not extraordinary. I have no clue if this text makes sense for anyone and that might be me being a bad writer or... I'm still rather spaced out from watching!
