iCarly (2007)
Somewhere in the middle
The targeted age for this show is set for Pre-teens. I grew up watching Dan Schneider's earlier shows: Kenan and Kel, All that, what I like about you, and Drake and Josh. I loved these shows because I grew up in the 90s, being 9 years old when Kenan and Kel first started airing. Drake and Josh was the last show I watched before I was turned off my Nick's newer shows, especially Zoey 101 which aired in 2005. I was disgusted that they would even make such a stereotype show like that.
(Read my review on Zoey 101 to see what I'm talking about)
So I tuned off to Nick after that. But one day I was board so I decided to flip through the channels to see if anything good was on. I came upon icarly. I had doubts about watching it because I figured it was another one of Nick's failed attempts at making a show, but decided to watch it anyways. And I was surprised. This show was pretty good and I must confess that I'm I was in love with this show when it first started airing.
The show is about a girl named Carly Shay who lives with her brother Spencer, her witty, sometimes childish guardian. Her two best friends are Freddie and Sam. Together, they create an online Web show called icarly and it soon becomes a hit sensation.
Now in late 2011, icarly is in its 5th season focusing on Sam and Freddie's relationship and less on them doing the web show.
I have to admit that sometimes the episodes are pointless and lame. And the acting isn't that great either. But one thing I liked about the show was how they came up with fresh ideas and bits for the web show each week. During the past year, they have shied away from this.
I have mixed feelings about this show. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad and a mirror of Zoey 101, and this is coming from a 22 year old reviewing a show aimed at Pre-teens. I can't say I love it, because I don't. (The only show I truly love is Smallville.) But I can't say I hate it either. I'm stuck somewhere in the middle.
Final Destination 5 (2011)
My review on Final destination 5
I had low expectations when I entered the theater to see the 5th installment of the FD series, because the 4th movie was such a disappointment. But after watching it, I was surprised.
First off, this movie was way,( and I mean), way better then the last two movies were. It was darker and had a lot of elements from the first movie, which I loved. I don't want to give away too much, but I do want to say that the last scene of the movie will leave you speechless. It had me thinking, "OMG, that was AMAZING how they came up with that twist."
One last thing I loved about this movie was that it was well planned out and thought of, unlike the forth movie which was a joke and in my opinion, shouldn't have never been made. The deaths weren't rushed as opposed to the deaths in the forth movie, and it gave more screen time to introduce us to the characters.
Note: I will say that there is one death scene in the movie that I didn't see coming, besides the ending.
I recommend you see this movie. It might have the same theme as the first four movies, but unlike the first four, it's on a much higher scale.
Smallville (2001)
One of the best shows EVER....
It's true, Smallville is probably one of the best shows out there compared to some shows they have nowadays.
It's the retelling of young Clark Kent going through life before becoming superman.
Throughout the first few seasons we see Clark growing up in smallville trying to figure out who is he, where he came from, and dealing with keeping his secret from his friends, three of which are Lana, ( his crush), Chloe, and Pete. This is very hard since he has so many incredible powers.
In season two, Clark meets his biological father Jor-L and finds out about his origins and where he came from. At the end of season two, Clark is put to his first test.
The episodes, "Exodus" "Exile" and "Phoenix" are probably one of the strongest episodes ever showing Clark having to choose between his friends and fulfilling his destiny. These episodes also show us how the choices we make affect us for the rest of our lives. In my opinion, this is the only time throughout the entire series that red Kryptonite had such a dramatic affect on him.
As we reach season 6, Clark is now working at the Daily Planet, alongside Chloe and soon in season 8, Lois. This is when the show ventures into a more adult setting. Clark and Lois get into a relationship and he gets closer to becoming superman. What I loved most about the later seasons were that it wasn't in a drama type setting, opposed to the first five seasons.
Some things I felt they shouldn't have put in the show is Lana getting married to lex. I saw no point in that happening. Plus, I felt Lana should have left after season 5, so Lois and Clark could have developed feelings for each other earlier, instead of season 8. Believe me, I loved the whole Clark/Lana thing, but that started getting old.
These three things are the reason I gave it a 9 rating.
Edit, September 2011: I liked how the show ended with Clark finally fulfilling his destiny, but I feel that they didn't give Lex enough screen time. And second, they only showed Tom Weiling in the Superman suit briefly in several shots.
Zoey 101 (2005)
That isn't real life....
Zoey 101 has got to be the most pathetic, idealistic show I have ever seen. It is a failed attempt at making comedy and decent acting. When I first saw an episode, I was like, "You have got to be kidding me." The show focuses on a girl named Zoey Brooks, who is, as one reviewer said, "The sun, moon and stars," of PCA. Here is a highlight of what Zoey is like:
Everyone goes to her for advice. She is never wrong with anything she says. She's beautiful with a perfect body, (as is all the other students that go there, with the exception of the one chubby kid who in my opinion is a complete fag) She has perfect grades, the perfect looks, never seen doing homework, and none of the students don't take interest in real work. Even the teachers that work there seem to be complete losers.
Her ideas are pointless and dull, although everyone else thinks she's brilliant. She always has an answer for everything. She seems to be swimming in money because she is always seen wearing nice clothes and has one heck of a dorm room with a flat screen TV, laptop and a couch. And last, everyone seems to bow down to her like she's a princess. The show doesn't have any morals.
If someone creates a problem, for example in the episode, "Webcam," when Logan spies on the girls, she always saves the day. This happens in almost all the episodes, so basically, each episode has a happy ending to it, like in fairy tales. Zoey is always playing games, tanning, or sitting around, so a question arises, "Why does she have all As." This is with all of the characters, with the exception of Quinn. But she tries to act cool, and fails.
Zoey and her brother never argue or fuss. All siblings bicker from time to time. I know this is true because I have a sister, and although were close, we have our differences. But it seems like Zoey and her brother don't have any differences at all. They agree on everything. She's very protective of him and they get along just fine. Unrealistic!!!!!!! She seems to have plenty of money, but where does she get it? None of them work, or even know what the term means because they act like a bunch of spoiled brats.
This isn't real life. In real life, parents don't send their 13 year old kids off to a boarding school with a sushi bar beside the beach and leave them there unsupervised. In real life, kids at boarding school are seen doing homework, getting an education, and reaching for something, instead of the kids shown in the show who play games all the time, sit out in the sun all day; wear clothes from holister and get perfect grades without opening a book.
And in real life, if a parent knew that the girls and guys were hanging out in the same dorm room together at an age where hormones start to kick in, they'd be flabbergasted. This show is unrealistic in so many ways and that's why I don't suggest you not watch this show. If you think my review if harsh, please forgive me. But this is the truth.
