Pickin' & Grinnin' (2010)
A rowdy road-trip coming of middle age salvation story.
I saw this adorable film at Canadian Music Week in Toronto at the lovely Tiff Bell Lightbox. It was 30 degrees and snowing but in minutes I was basking in the Banning California sun, jumpin' in a 70's RV to take a road-trip with the two most lovable and funny characters I've seen since Harry and Loyd in Dumb & Dumber. This film is a great indy comedy. The thing I was not expecting was the music. This soundtrack is incredible. After the film ended, one of the writers and stars of the film get's up at the Q & A and has us in stitches again. These guys are on to something with their comedy. We ask in the Q & A about a song we loved in the film called "I Wouldn't Go Outside IF I Were You." The co-writer / co-lead actor tells us that he and one of the other leads wrote it as well. I sure hope this great film makes it to theaters everywhere. A studio needs to buy this film and put out that soundtrack for sure. Thanks P & G. Toronto will miss you!
Becoming Eduardo (2009)
Pitch Perfect
I was one of the lucky folks who got a ticket to see this beautiful film at the Burbank Film Festival. Writer / Director Rod McCall's poignant coming of age story was a pitch perfect performance by an amazing cast and left me ready for another offering from this masterful scribe and helmer. He and Producer Brad Littlefield assembled a great team and were very gracious to all who were there. In this day and age when studios can't make a good film with millions of dollars, it's so nice to see a true independent film that was made with blood and sweat equity. I recently saw that the film had distribution and was so excited. Run don't walk to get a copy of this great little film. Becoming Eduardo is an honest look at a unique culture and what it takes to rise above it's shackles of stereotyping. I love this movie.
