What If... (2010)
Not being Christian shouldn't stop you from watching this film .
I came across this film and the first thing that caught my attention was that it was a Romance which I was looking for . I saw that Kevin Sorbo was also in it as well as John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers fame) and almost wrote it off right there . Having noticed that Kristy Swanson was also in here was enough to make me give it a shot since not for her acting ability but for her sheer beauty and the thought of the "higher faith" aspect seemed secondary at that point .
Previous reviews , many of which were unfairly rated in my opinion due to the Christian content were screaming at me to pass this film over but Kristy won out in the end and I am so glad I watched it in the end .
Kevin Sorbo (Ben) and Kristy Swanson (Wendy) are a couple that are good church going Christians that are about to part ways unbenounced to them at the time with Ben questioning his faith and taking some time to "find" himself and he leaves Wendy high and dry and never returns but in stead makes a new life in the world of finance in the big city .
Someone has bigger plans for him some 15 years later and dispatches an Angel - Mike (Ratzenberger) to show him the light . Ben is thrown head first back into his life that he "could" have had with Wendy and they unite as a family with 2 children as if he had never left but his big city mentality and greed soon cause tension in the marriage but Wendy being a wonderful wife and mother to Ben and their kids stands by her man as he "see's the light" so to speak while Ben gets back to his original calling as a Minister .
They have highs and lows and in the end the big guy decides Ben should leave behind what has now become his life and one that he wants so badly to continue and return to the city to the life he chose at which point this film will either make you shake your head or smile and reach for a tissue as I did , lol .
The main Cast in my opinion did a very nice job of acting and were very believable , the cinematography was good but the editing was choppy at times and definitely gave it that made for TV look but still well worth a watch .
In the end I was left was a lump in my throat and a smile on my face , not enough to stand up and clap but very satisfied with this film , and this coming from a guy that is in no way anywhere close to a Christian but very much a person that is open minded enough to give wonderful little films like this a chance and hope you will as well .
The Big Bad Swim (2006)
Great little sleeper film
When I first looked at the cover I didn't think much of it until I saw that Paget Brewster was in it , which immediately caught my attention. She is excellent on Criminal Minds and has such a beautiful screen presence.
A story about a swim instructor (Jeff Branson - Noah) who seems depressed and almost torn between committing suicide and getting a pet , that brings a class of people that are afraid of water or just plain old can't swim together and as the film progresses , bonds are formed between the group.
Again Paget Brewster (Amy) played a great roll as an indecisive school teacher going through a break-up and did it very well. Jess Weixler (Jordan) , befriends her and they form a friendship along with Jordan getting to know Noah . The whole time Jordan's brother and his friend make a Filmography about her throughout the film.
The script is good and the cinematography is excellent for an Indie film and as slowly as it started out , it picked up steam and showed a group of people come together and form a bond.
It is really not hard at all to recommend this film and I don't think you will be disappointed if you stick with it.
Bending All the Rules (2002)
Worst film ever made
Seriously , when I first saw this film I expected good things from it since Bradley Cooper was in it as well as a few lesser known actors . Instead I got a film that had to have had the worst acting I have ever seen in a film that spent more than 1,000 dollars to make . The storyline is so non existent that I was waiting for something interesting to happen until I had to fast forward just in hope that I could find an interesting part to watch but the acting just kept getting worse and worse and the editing was not much better . As for the music in this film , well honestly I have heard better in a cheap porn movie then in this piece of garbage . Save your money if you are thinking of renting it and even if you get to see it for free , believe me you will not make it all the way through to the end , that I promise you .
A Crush on You (2011)
If you like happy endings
As soon as I saw the title for this movie, I knew it would be something that I could feel good about watching, and I personally wasn't disappointed.
Classic mistaken identity or mystery admirerer movie with single mom "Charlie" receiving misdirected E-mails from a guy "Ben" who falls for a beautiful woman "Cloe" (you've got mail coming to anyone's mind yet) but none of the three put it together for most of the film until it's time to actually meet.
This film being a made for TV movie obviously had it's limitations but for what they had to work with, In my opinion it was nicely put together and did have a certain degree of character development which allows you to either like or dislike the characters. Although it looked for a minute like there would be a villain in here at one point, the script allows nature to take it's true course and no real "bad guy" turns up.
It's a simple romantic film more than a comedy and even if you did manage to get your kids to sit through it which I highly doubt, it's not a film that you would need anyone to leave the room for content.
I enjoy all types of love stories and may be biased but I liked it.
